MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Is MM8BDM dead yet?
« on: December 10, 2011, 12:52:19 AM »
I'd like if people realize that the game is in no way dying because of custom skins. I am completely fine with people using custom skins as I'm smart enough not to download them. The only skins I download are of Megaman characters, and only classic ones at that. I'd like people to realize that sometimes, people want to be megaman characters that AREN'T in 8BDM. Why do you think I skin so much? I don't make my skins for no reason. I'm going to use them.

...And to whoever said Duel would be a fresh change of pace and more fun than deathmatch, sorry, but I respectfully disagree. Duel is extremely boring to me. I don't play multiplayer to play alone with ONE other person and then watch people fight for half an hour. Deathmatch is fun and you can jump right in.

Well, its a GMK, so I couldn't really tell the difference :/

Whatever the case, tried out Blyka's engine, and its pretty good... combined with my old engine's stuff, I may be able to make a "complete" engine.

One question, though: Does anyone have a good engine on megaman-style screen transitions? I'm sure I could find one somewhere online, but I'm just curious.

Honestly, maybe I should just make this "General Fangame Discussion" or "Fangame Making Discussion" or something.

HAVE TOBUSCUS DO A LP.

OUR PROBLEMS WILL BE SOLVED

OR BETTER YET

A LITERAL TRAILER

...

But in all seriousness, I really miss when this was popular, and everything was vanilla (aside from skins... might I mention that those used to be quite a bit more popular back then as well?). Basically, I miss the demo days. The demo had far less content than the full game, but when it came out officially, tons upon tons of new players showed up, and so did tons upon tons of mods. There are really only a few mods I can tolerate anymore, like classes. Actually, pretty much just classes, and I'll only play that once in a while. I'm sick of Roboenza, even though I LOVED the idea at first. To make matters worse, if there's ever any vanilla servers, its LMS. The game is called Megaman 8-Bit Deathmatch, and I realize that that doesn't make deathmatch the only good mode, but the game was built around it. It should be the one with the most servers, not the mode without any.

I remember back when I could look on DoomSeeker and see several vanilla deathmatch servers. The demo only got played less a few months before release, iirc, and it was extremely popular until then. That shows how good a game it was. But when tons upon tons of mods were released and used, and the original game itself felt like it was played less than its modifications, it became boring. Remember back when there were only a few, megaman-themed skins out? Back when there were only four maps, plus Mr. X's customs, and people STILL didn't get sick of them? Remember back when my skins were DA BEST!? Those were the days when 8BDM was the best. I love the full game more than the demo, but the demo was the game's hayday. I don't really know what happened, but I really do hope it can be fixed. I wanted to host some good vanilla servers, but I am limited to hamachi and a non-24 hour hosting schedule. We need some good, 24/7, never coming down, VANILLA SERVERS. A good, dedicated server hoster who has the ability and resources to host a permanent (well, as permanent as anything in gaming is), all day everyday, server. Or several. Maybe one for each mode. We don't necessarily need more players, we need the current players to actually start PLAYING.

I thought this was a GM7 file? Its telling me its in a newer version of game maker.

Eh... oh well. My engine was only missing a few things that this one has, so I'll just have to keep using that...

Besides, currently, the engine I'm really interested in is being made by devmas. He's putting a lot of work into it, so I can't wait to see it finished.

I want to compare Kuro's engine to my old engine to see if its better, but I can't find a download anywhere. Anyone got a link?

My old engine was a modified one. It had a lot of useful features, but not everything. I did manage to add co-op as a test, though, which was pretty neat.

I have a lot of experience with Game Maker but the only Megaman engine I've ever found was sub-par and not quite what I wanted. I see a lot of fangames around here and so I was wondering: what engines/programs/etc are you guys using? One of these days I want to get around to working on a MM fangame.

What? Its not advertising my topic! Its just me speaking the truth!

But seriously, I play some weird Indie games like Slime Online. I play Blockland, a game nobody's heard of... Mission Against Terror... Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II... DOOM... Thats all I can think of at the moment.

SUPER BUMP.

I don't know if anyone cares at all, but if you didn't care about this game mostly because its so much effort to play a foreign game, I have GREAT NEWS. You guys were mad at the exclusivity of this game? Well, a North American release is on the way!

Of course, I'm going to have a hard time switching... I've made a lot of progress. It really depends. If the North American server gets updates faster than the Taiwan one, you can bet I'll switch.

Skins & Bots etc / Re: List of Skins
« on: November 12, 2011, 06:29:30 PM »
Originally I maintained the list. The actual point of it was for people to know what was and wasn't claimed. It didn't mean, "Oh, someone else is making this, so you can't", it meant "Someone else is making this, just so you know, so you may not want to make it so we don't have doubles". The ones without links were CLAIMED but not made, the ones with links were made and ready to go. However, I became busy and couldn't actively update the list, so instead we moved it to the wiki page so anyone who wanted to add their skins to it could. Of course, it became REALLY messy.

Also, the list originally only included Megaman characters, canon or not, but only Megaman. Now we've got pretty much everything, and its kind of messy and stuff. Unless someone wants to specifically run the list like it was originally being run, its no more useful than scrolling through the forums or using the search function.

Thank you very much.

Could you practically make completely new levels with this, or is it pretty limited?

This list really isn't in any particular order except for number 1. So ignore the order. Except for that.

Honorable mentions are probably like Dimentio from Mario and stuff. I don't know who else to say.

I do. Every once in a while. Not often. My sister plays it addictively though.
