Launchpad even manages to crash onto the wrong planet entirely.
GJ Launchpad.

I throw a bag of dry roasted peanuts onto the planet.

Anything Goes / Re: What have you gotton into lately?

I've really got back into playing the NES Mega Man games again, after a break of too many years to mention. It's also one of the reasons why I joined some 8BDM servers and decided to stick around.

After such a long time away and now playing them again all afresh, I can say without a doubt that:
1. Mega Man is still a glitchy, shoddily-constructed game with bizarre physics and frustrating luck-based platforming bullshit (Foot Holders are useless, get Magnet Beam before you even go near Ice Man's stage).
2. Mega Man 2 is an incredibly overrated game. Yes, it's still great fun, but it has certain flaws that really stick out for either being total dick moves (Heat Man's Yuko Block segment is just "wat", and Boobeam Trap is one of the worst boss-designs ever) or unfathomably stupid oversights (the obvious one being Metal Blade is ridiculously useful combined with having practically infinite weapon energy).
3. Keiji Inafune's crazy in regards to saying that he doesn't like MM3 as much as the rest. It improves on 2 in pretty much every way, even if it was a bit rushed near the end of development. If only Gemini Laser didn't suck so hard...

Outside of that, I'm also getting back into playing C&C: Red Alert online (albeit in co-op comp-stomp rounds because the PvP games are still as monotonous and dull as ever). So many bugfixes, so many new skirmish options. As Einstein would say, "IT'S INCREDIBLE!"

Anything Goes / Re: Where did you get your name?
« on: August 28, 2013, 03:04:16 PM »
I first started playing 8BDM under the name 'Monkey 86' after this ridiculous story. Then "Toad Day" happened, I changed my name to Toad86, and then every time I used a different skin/class on attempts at Robot Master Days. Eventually the 'Monkey' bit seemed irrelevant so I ditched it, just keeping the '86'. And obviously, 86 is a number.

12th May 1987.

Nothing important happened on that date.

ISTJ, apparently.

Oh god I'm a robot.

I mean really, has anyone wanted to play as Tails? He can fly, but in Sonic 2 he couldn't so, he was basically a retextured Sonic anyways.

Yes, I almost always use Tails when playing Sonic 2. He has a fractionally smaller hitbox, and as such won't activate all of those fucking exploding star things on Metropolis Zone, resulting in a slightly easier (read as: less shitty and cheap) run through that particular zone. Score one for the mutant fox over the blue spiky thing.

people of the male gender (apparently most of the people who play video games) wouldn't want to play as her, because she's a girl.

I've never understood this logic. At all. Does anyone here refuse to use certain characters in any game, just because said character is a female?

You talking about Crystal Caves?
Nope, as obvious as it would seem. You're not the first person to suggest this, and I doubt you'll be the last either. Trying to find whatever this game is though is frustrating, because I know it exists!

I don't think anyone I knew had ever heard of these games, much less played them.
I've heard of them, but have played precisely none of them. I remember reading a preview of Metal Marines as a kid, and then never saw anything of it ever again.

Launchpad McQuack attempts a landing on the surface the only way he can (crashing).

I never got to try it outside of some sort of demo on the Dreamcast, but it's something of a cult game. Surprisingly addictive considering how simple it is (but then the same can be said for so many other games too).

Quint's design seems to be based on Mega Man's appearence from Captain N: The Game Master.

Oh, shit. I think I'm gonna be sick... although I guess it's somewhat fitting inspiration when you consider how ropey MMII is anyway. Good job, Biox...

...But I kinda like the DOS games...

At least the first one. The second one is meh.

There are bits that I like, such as the scale and not-as-linear level design, but the physics are completely and utterly horribad.

Obscure games? Well that's something. This was a game so unbelievably obscure that I can't even remember the name of it (how helpful), but it was some old DOS game I played back in late 1994, 2D-platforming nonsense in which you controlled some sort of spaceman or other and explored caves to collect treasures, all while avoiding aliens and all the usual hazards present in these sorts of games (pits, spikes, random green shit, fire etc.). Nobody else who I've ever mentioned this game to knows what I'm talking about, and often look at me for it as if I've just contracted leprosy.

I only remember it myself for two reasons:
- Really stupid and lacklustre music.
- When you died, your guy's head disappeared and smoke was seen coming from the neck of his suit.

Oh and of course the shitty DOS Mega Man games. I had trouble convincing some people that they even exist.
