MM8BDM Discussion / Cut Stuff from the game
« on: September 14, 2010, 10:41:11 AM »
No really! The following stuff has been cut from the game, within reason!

Item-2
Like Item-1, Item-2 was going to be a usable inventory item. It has been cut because I couldn't code it the way I wanted. It would have worked like it did in Mega Man 2, travelling over long distances. Rush Jet makes it redundant though.

Reggae
Reggae was the tingle of the game. You summon him, and he uses one of many attacks. Some of the attacks included summoning friendly Big Eyes to stomp your enemies, spewing spark shots in all directions, spewing fully charged atomic fire in all directions, spewing health or weapon energy, making it rain around him for a long period of time, firing QUICK MAN'S LASERS out of random walls, etc. It was all good fun but at the end of the day, it was too friggin' crazy. This isn't brawl after all, and considering some people actually play MM8BDM competitively (the demo), those players I assume would hate this. He also attracted players to grab him as soon as possible, just for the complete random nature of it. If you have a better idea for him, post now!

Treble
While not entirely "cut" from the game, Treble was planned, drawn and never actually put in. Why? Because I couldn't come up with a good idea for him. He would spawn in front of you and... then what? Treble boost is out of the question because not everyone is as compatible as bass (imagine hard man with those wings). Maybe he could be some kind of sentry. Who knows. I may save him for the expansion unless someone gets an amazing idea soon!

Cutgoth skin
Sure it would have been nice to leave my mark in the game, but there's enough of that in the credits. Not to mention it would give people an excuse to pretend to be me (enough of that goes on in other skulltag games).

Proto Shield v1
Proto Shield was originally an inventory item. It would have been used the way Proto Upgrade currently gives you a shield while it's equipped, but instead be usable with any weapon! The catch is that it would break after so long. It was removed because I couldn't get it to break after so many hits, and also certain weapons would be blocked by your OWN shield (e.g air shooter)

Alpha maps
The two maps in the alpha version of MM8BDM suck. Cut Man's was too much like a singleplayer level (too much jumping, not enough room) and Guts Man's level was too open and dull. I still have them but don't expect to see them in the game any time soon.

ETank regeneration animation
You know how in Mega Man when you use an etank, you see your life charge back up? Yeah that doesn't happen in MM8BDM, but it used to! It was took out because it was buggy, and was difficult to use effectively. It's a fast paced game, and you have to be quick on the healing to survive!

Cutstuff Discussion and Feedback / Art Design Contest 1: Cutstuff Logo
« on: September 14, 2010, 09:58:54 AM »
All right let's get some more medals out.

COULD BE YOURS!!1

Basically I've always wanted a logo for my site, Cutstuff. All the crap I've made starts with different intros, but I'd like to make a "company" standard one with a logo. Problem is, try as I might I can't make a good one. So I'm letting you guys have a shot at it! Here's my demands request details:

Logo has to represent cutgoth in some shape or form, even if it's just his scissors (references here)
Logo should not have any background. Transparent PNG recommended! (unless you use that weird logo filetype that I can't remember the name of)
It can be any size, but should still be recognizable when shrunk down (just in case)

Here's a simple one I made earlier.

Even if you just take this and make it not suck, it would be acceptable. Don't forget, simplicity is always best but it can be as complex and colourful as you like!

Contest ends on the 27th of September. Naturally I'll be the judge, just because it's representin' mah home yo.

General Gaming Discussion / Duke Nukem

He's BACK.

http://kotaku.com/5629655/your-first-lo ... -in-action

With the big boy back in action, do you still care for Duke Nukem? I know I sure do. The internet seems to be split in half between whiners who expect it be worthy of 13 years of development (it won't be) and will criticize the fuck out of it if it's not, and people who are so excited and happy to see their childhood badass actually return in a brand new game.

I'm psyched to be honest, it looks pretty fun and that cycloid emperor battle made me squee. If only they'd get the damn trailer up, apparently its JAWSOME

MM8BDM Discussion / Please read - Asking for sprites
« on: September 02, 2010, 08:58:31 AM »
A few people have IM'd me saying that they're being badgered for sprites they've made for MM8BDM, so others can use them as a base for new skins or other Mega Man projects. The worst case is when people have asked to simply make a skin out of a regular Robot Master from 1-6, something that's already BEEN DONE (for the final version of the game).

While I don't mind people sending out spritesheets early if they're the other of those sheets, I would only want them to do so if they actually wanted to do so. Yes they're based on Mega Man sprites for an open source game and they shouldn't be hidden away, but these people made these for the official Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch game, not for everyone to pick apart and use. If I made a new invention and people started to reverse engineer from it and make their own invention, before I even showed it off to the world, I'd be pretty pissed off.

So while you may think it's immoral to keep these resources from you, we're doing it because the sprites weren't made for a sprite resource site. They were made for a game which isn't even finished yet. Speaking of which, when the game is released all the resources can be extracted from the game with ease! So with that in mind, please don't PM people about MM8BDM resources.

From now on, users pestering MM8BDM via PM or other means will be warned. 3 warns on this forum and you're gone btw. Just be patient and wait for the damn game to be released.

General Gaming Discussion / Hardest game you ever beat?
« on: August 26, 2010, 03:48:17 PM »
Name the hardest game you've owned and beat. The one that left you sweaty, bloody and battered after hours of play. Whether it was to do with bad controls, overall difficulty or whatever, let's hear it.

For me it's gotta be Gradius 2. I know Gradius 3 arcade is harder but I cannot for the life of me beat that crystal stage. Gradius 2 though is still REALLY damn hard. I've had this game twice but I finally beat it on the PS2 Gradius collection. The gun wall killed me about 5 gajillion times, he's just BRUTAL unless you know the trick to beat him (which I did not).

Just watch this save stater below to see what I'm getting at:

Mega Man Discussion / Rockman online teaser
« on: August 26, 2010, 08:24:23 AM »

Discuss!

Quote
So... wow. From the looks of it, we just bared witness to some sort of robot uprising taking place within a dystopian classic series universe -- yet -- the trailer cuts to footage of Iris, Alia and Signas (X series characters), toiling away as if they're providing aid to the very situation at hand. Classic/X series crossover, anyone?

According to Stoo.com, the source of the trailer, the game will indeed feature characters from both series, specifically outlining the presence of classic Rockman, Blues (Proto Man), Forte (Bass), X and Zero. Just how these characters will relate to one another is unknown at this time so it's up for speculation.

Aside from the above tidbit about characters, no new details about the game were reveal. However, once again, various Korean sites are promising more details will trickle out in the near future.

If you're new to this whole Rockman Online hubbub, allow me to summarize what we know so far: Rockman Online is a side-scrolling action RPG, boasting 3D graphics on a two dimensional plane, much like Mega Man X8 and Maverick Hunter X. Familiar faces and NPCs will make up the game's cast in addition to online players.

The game is being cooperatively developed by Capcom and NeoWiz with plans to distribute the title exclusively in Korea and Asian markets by the end of 2010.  While there's been no word of a release for the West, a Japanese release is likely, if a trademark is to be believed.

General Gaming Discussion / Pokemon BLACK for gameboy
« on: August 23, 2010, 01:05:41 PM »
Whether this is old or not, it's worth talking about. Basically a long story about a hacked Pokemon game that appeared on 4chan which is one of the spookiest VG hacks you'll ever hear about. Enough to give anyone the oogie boogies!

Is it real or not? If no, someone needs to make it ASAP.
