General Gaming Discussion / Re: Mugen Topic
« on: September 07, 2014, 08:00:37 AM »
Normally I don't like posting my older videos, but for the sake of getting the discussion on a positive track, I'm more than willing to do so.

In relation to what was mentioned about fun fighters, here's a recreation of Final Sigma W from MMX5, and he has the most special intros out of any character I've seen. All of them seem to pay homage to the Zero scene from MMX2, interestingly enough. Even now, I've yet to discover the sources behind some of the characters in these intros. Since he had so many of these, I also had to split them into two parts. You can find the second one here.

I'll also post the lists I had from both descriptions (though updating them a bit here), describing which characters appear in order from the first to second video.

Video 1:
Shadow Charlie -- Charlie
P. Mukuro -- Mukuro
Dan -- Ryu
Guile -- Zangief
Jin Fu-Ha -- Eiji
Some...stuff from IWBTG? -- Bit
Sankuro -- Ganjuro
Luigi -- Mario
Simon -- Alex
Fake Zero -- Zero
??? -- ???
King Lion -- Shin Shishioh
Toki -- Toki
(Red) Mac -- Mac

Video 2:
Urien -- Gill
Cyber Akuma -- Akuma
Mega Man ASCII Art? -- Megaman
Sigma X6 -- Dr. Cain
Eliza -- Ken
Kyo Clone 1, 2, and Kusanagi -- Kyo

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Mega Man Fan Game Collection Topic
« on: September 07, 2014, 07:38:03 AM »
I might be a bit late to the party on this topic, but I have something that could potentially be added to the list. Even though I find this particular fan-game to be cringe worthy in most aspects, I figured it would probably be brought up sooner or later either way (and if I can get my two cents on it in the process, then so be it).

Here's "Mega Man Next Remix," a browser-based flash game that will probably cause several internal questions upon viewing it.

There's currently a demo of this game that includes the intro and Robot Master stages, but it seems the creator is still working on it. Just to note, I was planning on further elaborating on this and giving my personal thoughts on this game, but it turned out to be way longer than it should have (I guess it got me too worked up, given how many faults can be pointed out with it - even by watching that video alone). For those of you that want to read this, for whatever insane reason, feel free to scroll through the very long spoiler section ahead.

tl;dr version: The game has some cool ideas here and there, but the overall quality is extremely lacking. Not recommended.

(And for those of you that follow my works/playthroughs on YouTube: No, I will not being doing this game any time soon...at least, not right now. It's still a demo, and I can guarantee you that either way, a majority of the video would just be me using Top Spin on everything).

Triple-post ahoy, but for good reason. Whirlpool Man's tileset is finally completed and submitted. It took way longer than expected (mostly due to the way Unlimited has its stage graphics set up), but I think I got everything with it. Or at least, I hope so - mostly in regards to those rock formations. I swear, after staring at them for so long and finding the tiniest variations to every new one I came across, they all started to resemble an optical illusion.

As for anything else, I'll be getting back to sprite rips and templates soon. I'll probably be working on some rips for the Robot Masters and Fortress Bosses in Mega Man Revolution (even though some of their designs are considered sub-par, I haven't seen any sprite rips of them so far). On a related note however, I've been having some trouble with Z-Man (Zetton) from Rockman Infinity.

My apologies for the double-post, but I just wanted make the announcement that the enemies from Whirlpool Man's stage have been added to the Sprite-Rips section. Sorry for the rather vacant space in part of the sheet itself (I mostly blame that Jellyfish mini-boss), but everything should be there. His stage's Tileset should be up soon (and on that note, his stage graphics have been complete hell to rip properly. I swear, it feels like there's something new with the background - as minuscule some of the details are - on every single screen, and I'm paranoid that I'll be missing stuff along the way).

Whirlpool was the only one we didn't have anything on due to most of us losing interest in Unlimited by the time he came out. Think you missed the one where his shoulders are facing diagonally upward.

Good work so far. Should be able to get stuff done with it now.

I actually went back and double-checked this. It seems Whirlpool Man only has two frames of animation for spinning his shoulder-turbines (though the animation for it is so fast in-game that it makes it look like a full rotation). If necessary though, I could try to make those sprites for him. It shouldn't be too difficult.

As in, the same Shinryuu notorious for playing bad Mega Man fangames?  Ah, yes, I know you well.

On the note of ripping enemy Robot Masters from Rock Force, though, you may want to hold off on that.  If you check the forum real quick, you'll see a quick discussion between he and I, in which he agrees to hand over the spritesheets for the RMs after the latest update (Where a couple of aesthetic upgrades occur).  ...Though it would be handy if you went to go pick up those things in my stead, since his website just despises my IP address.

Nice work so far, though.

Ah, I see now. I'd be more than willing to do so if necessary. I knew Goldwater was doing another update to Rock Force, but I had no idea he was going to release the sprite-sheets. That should be interesting when the new update comes about.

On that note, I've removed the Rock Force RM's from the WIP list for now, and instead, I'll probably focus on Whirlpool Man's tilesets. I figured I may as well complete it now that I've ripped the robot master himself.

Since you used something a a base I'm not going to comment on them being Megaman edits. Though I will say, flip Spidy's hand up-side-down in his firing frames and move his thumb inwards, so it looks more like his web slinging motion.

Also don't rip Nail Man's Tileset if that is Unlimited, Nemz already did all those except for Flood Man.
Edit: Ok, they are not there, but he did do them, seems he took them down for some reason.

Noted and changed (to the best of my abilities for now). Thanks for the suggestion and the notice that Nail Man's tileset had already been ripped. While we're on the subject however, I actually had a back-up plan just in case that was done. So in the very least, I do have one more thing to contribute for now aside from a minor edit.

Whirlpool Man's sprites have now been added to the "Sprite-Rips" section (hopefully I'm not too late for that one as well, though).

Hello there, everyone. Though I've recently joined the form, I've been trying my hand at spriting for a while now (although admittedly with varying degrees of success). As such, I wanted to contribute a few of my edits and rips to potentially help out with some projects. I've been reading through the tutorials on the forums here for a while, so hopefully I've followed the general guidelines well enough with my templates. Although I'm still reading up on how to implement skins into the game, I don't mind it if anyone else wants to do so with my templates. Any and all criticism or advice is highly welcomed as well. This is especially since I'm rather new to the templates in general (and as such, I've started off with some pretty basic stuff that uses Mega Man as a basis for the sprites).

Templates:

DVN.002 - Spider Man [Rockman Infinite]
(click to show/hide)

DVN.003 - Sugoi Man (Jin Fu-Ha from the "Art of Fighting" series) [Rockman Infinite]
(click to show/hide)

Sprite-Rips:

Photon Man [Mega Man: Rock Force]
(click to show/hide)

Whirlpool Man [Mega Man Unlimited]
(click to show/hide)

Whirlpool Man Stage Enemies [Mega Man Unlimited]
(click to show/hide)

Tilesets:

Whirlpool Man's Stage [Mega Man Unlimited]
(click to show/hide)

To-Do List:
- Fix Sugoi-Man's arms when he fires while facing right/left. The current sprites are placeholders.
- Potentially work on custom 8BDM-styled sprites for Photon Man. If someone else wants to try their hand at it though, anyone is more than welcome to do so (assuming a skin for him wasn't already made yet).

WIPs:
- The rest of Rockman Infinite's RMs. Currently working on Zagi Man (Robo-version of Jagi from Fist of the North Star) and Z Man (Zetton from Ultraman).
- Sprite rips for Mega Man Revolution's bosses.

Anything Goes / Re: New to Cutstuff? Post here.

Indeed. I always like to search out forums just in case a similar topic has been created. I can see there's quite a few related to MM weapons so far, so I'll probably hold off on that. In either case, I'll have other things to contribute soon (and far more helpful things at that).

Thank you very much, everyone! I had no idea there were quite a few others here who had been following my playthroughs as well (I guess that goes to show that I don't get out much after all). Either way, it's nice to start getting involved with the various communities again. I do plan on eventually showcasing some of the work I mentioned before for resources, along with other small things involving sprites and such.

Before that however, I still wanted to explore the board a bit and get used to things. I was also thinking of creating a topic regarding the various weapons in the Mega Man series, as I've become somewhat prone to talk about them quite a bit (not exactly like the weapons deformation thread, but rather one to discuss and analyze them - which ones are good, which ones are bad, and what could be done to fix the latter - though I'm searching just to make sure a topic like that wasn't already around before-hand).

Greetings everyone. My name is Shinryu, otherwise known as "Shinryuu82" on YouTube (although some people tend to refer to me by a shortened version of this name - "Shin").

In any case, I've been intrigued by the Mega Man series for quite some time (Mega Man 4 was actually one of the first games I ever played). While my attachment to the whole franchise is pretty strong, I never really took the time to look around the community much. Granted, there were a few forums I used to visit a while back, though a majority of them are long since gone by now. I figured it was about time to venture out further and meet others in the wide fan-base and communities centered around all this, among other general topics as well.

As for a bit of other detail about myself, I generally post playthrough videos of various Mega Man-related games on YouTube. Considering I don't like to use my mic (mostly because my voice would sound like sandpaper on your ears), I do all of my commentary through annotations to present information and opinions on these various works. I also noticed that a few of my playthroughs were embedded on these forums as example links in a fan-game archive topic (which was another reason that propelled me to further check these forums out). In relation to that, I don't know how I ignored 8-bit Deathmatch for so long, but I was probably missing out on quite a bit until I heard about the update involving the Mega Man & Bass chapter. I've actually been thinking about getting back into customizing/editing sprites for potential use with the game itself, even if it amounts to extras and downloads. I'm currently reading through the various tutorials in regards to custom content creation for the game. As helpful as they are, I'm not sure if I would be capable of doing anything super technical with the engine - but I do want to try to make some mock-ups of player sprites suitable for the engine (mostly going off of other various MM fan-games currently, to which I'm sure some may have already beaten me to the punch on). I'm not sure as to which section of the board these would go in (simply because they'd be sprite-based ideas for usage), but I'm guessing the most logical place would be the "Resources" thread in the Projects board.

Other than that, I don't have too much else to say. I hope to have a fun and interesting time in meeting you all!
