Sea Pillager
Based on: Pirate Man
Battle Style: Reckless Hand-to-Handsword combat; good at damaging any nearby foes, can also summon underlings to assist in various manners.
Appearance: Tall with a large frame, wears an almost comically stereotypical pirate's hat, with a green longcoat. Has a short black beard, he intends to continue growing it. Right hand is replaced with a blade, left hand still a hand.
Personality: Haughty but loyal, quick to fly into a rage, has an irresistible urge to lay claim to any large body of water.

Choice 2:

Energy Tycoon
Based on: Dynamo Man
Battle Style: Selfish Healer, may use energy to heal and buff allies, but gleans massively increased benefits when doing so to himself. Little offensive capability when healing others, may harvest energy off of downed enemies and allies.
Appearance: On the short end of things, always wears a mask of some variety, favors fencing masks. Wears heavy armor fashioned in the style of Native American carvings. The armor is mostly for show. Carries a rod that resembles a tesla coil.
Personality: Quick tempered and is overly concerned with only his safety. Keeps allies around mostly as glorified meat shields.

Well it seemed like the basis of your original post was which of these design approaches was superior, and if that wasn't your point then it's my bad. But if we're comparing them on the basis of balance, diversity, and enjoyability, then that's a very different discussion then what I was thinking of.
