General Gaming Discussion / A question on region for the NES and SNES
« on: June 23, 2012, 08:10:44 AM »
Hey everyone, it's me again.

I jumped on here curious about region-specific areas with the old NES and SNES.
I'm from Australia so I use PAL, but I was wondering, could I buy games from the UK (also PAL)
and have them working on my NES or SNES?

I know that NTSC will simply not work (unless we have master hackers or some port) but I was hoping that
I could get UK games working on my consoles. You see, unfortunately ebay items in Australia
only have a limited amount when it comes to games, but bigger (well in population) areas like the UK
seem to have a lot more variety.

Thanks!

General Gaming Discussion / Favourite boss music in video games
« on: December 09, 2011, 05:32:47 PM »
All right, seeing as my other topic flopped, I thought of making a better one, lol.

We all have our favourite games, but what about favourite boss music?
Even if it was in a game that isn't one of your faves, it could still be on the top list of best boss music?
All right, I have quite a few, but I'll start with one (should probably limit one per post?) and a little
explanation as to why you like it so much. Let's begin.

Mega Man Discussion / The Mega Man Music Forum Game
« on: December 02, 2011, 02:59:25 PM »
All right, I had this idea which I thought I'd share on here, and I hope we get the ball rolling.
This idea came from watching some videos of some Mega Man ROM hacks, where they used music
from other video games, but it somehow fit in quite well. For example, I recall music from TMNT in one of them.

Now you could say "well, any boss music will sound good as boss music" but not all of them
would sound good as a Mega Man boss music. I hope this makes sense.
You can choose both 8 bit or 16 bit music, or even other music that you think will fit in, and choose it
for anything you like within Mega Man (title screen, stage music, boss, ending etc).

All right I'll start:

This was a game which I never played, but I really want to own.
The boss music I think would suit a Mega Man game, whether final or regular.

Anything Goes / Question to Alucard (or anyone) about Castlevania
« on: March 04, 2011, 02:38:59 PM »
Hey, well having remembered that I played a Castlevania game as a kid, I am trying hard to remember which one it was I played.

Although, I do remember a particular track (if I listen to it, I will remember) and I was wondering if you could help me.

It was on the NES, and the theme was I think Dracula's castle (there's moving platforms and heaps of baddies and what not) and after defeating Dracula you get his eye or something (there were five bosses if I remember correctly).

Also it was the one where during the day, you'd get civilians walking through the towns, and at night there would be skeleton warriors instead, and there'd be these fish men that jump out of the water.

Please tell me this is a Castlevania game, lol. Otherwise I'll never hear that castle theme again.  :p

Cheers!

Anything Goes / It's about time!...
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:33:59 PM »
Well, after putting it off for a long time, I finally went back and clocked MM8BDM (hooray for old news! woot! lol).

Though I just wanna say, that I can't thank the team who worked on that project enough. Not only was it transforming a childhood icon into 3D, but as a stand-alone game, it was awesome fun! (Rather hard at times -.- but fun, lol).

I wanna thank everyone, and especially CutmanMike, for the time and effort put into this project. Now, I think I have to not be a chicken and play online!

Which gives me this question... how do I do that?
Do I have to type in IP addresses or can I find active games on a list?
Sorry if I am new to Skulltag.

Cheers everyone!  :D

Help & Editing / Need help please (crashing issues)
« on: November 26, 2010, 05:16:42 PM »
I was playing MM8BDM again, and for the second time it crashed on Crystal Man's stage. It's odd, I play it for a few seconds and it crashes.

Could this be an issue with skulltag, or is my computer that old?
It tends to lag a fair bit, and I think it gets to the point where it just gives up.

Any feedback would be thankful, cheers!

Mega Man Discussion / Low on energy?
« on: November 03, 2010, 08:00:48 AM »
Then you need an E tank energy drink!

http://www.themmnetwork.com/2010/02/25/ ... -drink-v2/

I think it's only available in Japan at the moment, but one day I decided to google search this in case such an item existed (even though I don't like energy drinks, I thought the idea would be cool as).

Knowing now that they exist, has made life THAT much better (lol!).

When I hit Japan, I'm taking one of these (esp. after fighting robots).

MM8BDM Discussion / A few questions with MM8BDM
« on: October 19, 2010, 06:13:49 AM »
First of all, I'd like to say thank you very much CutManMike and your team for putting the hours to create something like this. It is great to see this project finished, and so far I am loving it!

Just two issues so far though:

1. How do you save game in single player?
I know you can't save during gameplay, but is there a way to return to Dr. Light's lab to save game (which I haven't realised yet?)

2. Some stages lag at times.
Usually long stages when you can see really far ahead. Is this either the Skulltag engine doing its best to keep up, or is my old computer really a piece of crap? lol.

If there's any other issue i'll post it here, but thank you for listening, and I can't wait to play some more later today.  :)

Cheers!

Mega Man Discussion / My Mega Man remixes etc.
« on: September 14, 2010, 01:22:48 PM »
Hey all

I didn't want to make an entire thread at first but I figured I'd make one to show some of the stuff I have made, which I want to share with everyone.

All of these videos have been made in Fruity Loops 8, and I was new to it at the time. They are remixes of Mega Man songs but one of them is an original one inspired by the game. I downloaded NES vst plug ins for the sounds in that one. Anyway, without further ado, I will post them:

This was my first attempt and of course I had to do a cover of Snake Man.
It's not perfect, in fact some parts seem off, but I am happy for it being the first one I've done.

(click to show/hide)

This one is the second NES sounding original track I did (you can check out the other ones too if you like). This one was heavily influenced from Mega Man, and I think this one is my favourite.

This was a remix of one of my fave tracks from MMX2. It's short but I quite like it, and it includes some 16bit MIDI samples from the game.

Finally I decided to re-create the intro highway level from MMX. It turned out all right, and I realise now I completely forgot the strings section   but other than that, i am quite happy with it.

I hope you enjoy them as I enjoyed making them. I have other game related stuff on my youtube account if you're interested (any Ninja Gaiden fans?).
Feel free to comment honestly too, I would admire that. Thank you!

P.S. If you can, please ignore the youtube poops on my account >< lolol.  :p

MM8BDM Discussion / This project is looking great! - New to the forum
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:20:01 PM »
Hey everyone

I didn't want to make a new topic just to say that I'm new to the forum etc. so I figured I would also put my personal input as to what I think of the project so far etc etc.

I am loving this, I have to say a big thanks to Cutman Mike and all those involved in the MM8BDM project. I recently played the demo (after viewing countless videos online) and I have to say I loved it! I finished the demo and I absolutely cannot wait for the final product, but already I see how well it's coming along.

I wonder how many people thought of making a Mega Man game in first person, in a deathmatch style? It's a great idea, and it combines my love of old platform shooters with FPSs.

Anyways, to wrap this up before I rabble on any further, here are some of the things I am looking forward to:

Of course being a Snake Man fan, I cannot wait to play that stage!
Looking at some of the screen shots, there seems to be some of the disappearing blocks. I wonder if you'd include more to access more powerful weapons in the game? Especially in levels that already had the disappearing blocks (as this would make accessing those weapons harder).
Also I am not sure if the Magnet Missiles lock on to targets, I hadn't noticed.
Finally, many people mentioned boss battles. I was wondering if in the single-player campaign (deathmatch with bots) there would be boss battles 1v1 with each robot master using their own weapons (i saw the trailer with Punk and thought it was great).

That's all from me for now, I needed to do an epic intro so I can type less next time, lol. Cheers!  :)
