Mega Man Discussion / Re: The Mega Man Music Forum Game
« on: December 05, 2011, 05:45:49 PM »
There was a topic ages ago about choosing a random video game character, and then selecting a theme from Mega Man that would best suit them. I guess I wanted to make something a bit different but oh well.

That's some interesting music there. And it's from the SNES, really?
I thought it was from the PS1 era, wow.
Video game music is an art form I reckon, and one that is sometimes under appreciated.
There was a topic on this ages ago, but I dunno if we need a new one, hmm.

Really? No one wants to play?
Oh well, but I will link a boss theme which I think would suit a Wily boss fight.
It's no surprise why though:

Has anyone found a random hat while playing? It happened to me for the first time the other day.
I got the er, antler for the pyro. I thought only weapons could be found during game time?
Unless someone donated it to the map? But yeah, just thought I'd share.

Isn't Cat Mario standalone?
True, you are correct.
It's not technically a rom hack but rather a stand alone game based on those rom hacks.
I clocked Cat Mario. Only 4 stages but 4 sneaky bastardy levels, lol.
that game was HARD! I finally beat it after about 70 tries or something

Haha yeah, my end results was like minus... shit, almost 100, lol.
Once you remember all the traps though, it's not as hard, but still difficult.
The third level was a sneaky sneaky bastard.

Apart from Cheetahmen 2 which I played on emulator, I can't think of many bad games I've played over the years.
Mr. X mentioned Home Alone 2 and the Ghostbusters by Activision I think? The HAL one kicks its ass.
There have been more mediocre games I'm sure. I'm thinking the PSX era, seeing as there were so many games that
came out, not all of them would have been gems. I remember playing one called Lone Soldier. Even at the time it was considered
buggy and a boring arcade-ish attempt at a game. I guess it was also during a time where I started liking other genres of games.
I went from the platformers on the SNES to the FPS and RTS on PC, and so was looking for the same thing on PS1.
But this game was, well, you decide:

2D that I actually own = Home Alone (NES).  The goal is simple:  Run from Harry and Marv through your house for 20 minutes while springing traps to slow them down.  It's the same big house for 20 minutes...or wait, is it 20 minutes?  Nope.  The programmers couldn't even get the Goddamn clock right.  It moves at about 60% the speed it should, meaning you're in it for the long haul.  The AI cheats, plain and simple.  There's a video on YouTube that actually showed how one of the bandits walked off screen to the right while on the 2nd floor of the house only to appear to the left on the outside of the house climbing halfway up the drain spout no more than 5 seconds later.  Kevin walks like he's doing the locomotion until you hit the stairs.  For some reason, you have to rapidly hit A to go up stairs and my God does Kevin climb them slow.  He walks up them like he's 95 years old.  But the computer, oh no.  The stairs don't slow them down one bit.  The furthest I've made it was 5 minutes in real time which the game generously rounded to 2 minutes and 45 seconds.

2D overall (via emulator) = Ghostbusters (NES).  After watching the AVGN review, I had to try this game for myself.  You see, the thing about the two games above and games like Sonic 06 is they're so bad they're hilarious.  Not Ghostbusters.  It truly is so very bad that you simply don't want to play it.  At all.  Ever.  I spend 50 minutes on this piece of shit before "The Zuul" finally decided to open.  I died in 45 seconds inside.  Game Over.  Screw this game.[/quote]

I have to agree with those games. Even as a kid, I have bad memories of them, especially of Ghostbusters.
Clearly you haven't played this version, coz this version rocks!

Speaking of music, the only decent thing that came from Cheetah Men 2:

Hmm great game with major flaw?

For me it would have to be Killzone 2.

Great fun game, lots of action, lots of cool stuff going on... all ruined by the last level.
The last level was not only as super hard, but it was ruined by a stupid boss fight.
Anything up 'till that level was quite good, and it didn't help that I played it on hard, esp.
for the last level. Apparently the ending is lame too. I wouldn't know, I never got to clock it.

Mega Man Discussion / The Mega Man Music Forum Game
« on: December 02, 2011, 02:59:25 PM »
All right, I had this idea which I thought I'd share on here, and I hope we get the ball rolling.
This idea came from watching some videos of some Mega Man ROM hacks, where they used music
from other video games, but it somehow fit in quite well. For example, I recall music from TMNT in one of them.

Now you could say "well, any boss music will sound good as boss music" but not all of them
would sound good as a Mega Man boss music. I hope this makes sense.
You can choose both 8 bit or 16 bit music, or even other music that you think will fit in, and choose it
for anything you like within Mega Man (title screen, stage music, boss, ending etc).

All right I'll start:

This was a game which I never played, but I really want to own.
The boss music I think would suit a Mega Man game, whether final or regular.

Interesting...
So would you say Minecraft is shoved everywhere,
Or everywhere shoved into Minecraft?
To an extent, yes, Minecraft is talked a lot about (and especially Skyrim at the moment) but
there is a Minecraft topic, and I barely post in it. What would be spammy is if I posted something
Minecraft related in topics that aren't related to Minecraft. As for bronies, I get it, they're everywhere in
Funnyjunk and Team Fortress 2, but it doesn't stop me from visiting the site or playing the game.
I even joined a Furry server, and looked past all the connotations, because it was in fact a good server.
The only complaint I had was coz they all knew each other in the server, they would just not shut up, lol.
Being a fan of something is good, but being a fanboy/fanatic, is one step further.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: The most underrated Robot Master

Some fave underrated robot masters?
Snake Man has a very underrated weapon, and well, it does destroy Wily I guess... and his design is cool and what not and people like him and his stage music is one of the best!
Umm... different one then, lol.

I like Drill Man. I think he's underrated but his weapon is quite good.
Wave Man too. I imagine him as Splash Woman's angry father, because he doesn't like her hanging out
with dangerous blue bombers.  ;)

Some good responses, though I think Mr. X summed it up nicely.

Are you a fan of the show?
No, to be honest I haven't watched it, but personally it doesn't look like something that would appeal to me either.

What do you think of it?
I can imagine it's an entertaining show, and has its fun, but like almost everything, fanboys kill franchises.
I don't even know what Touhou is and I'm already sick of hearing it on here, lol.
Also, I got this Halo DVD which explains the background story, and I realise it's a fantastic story.
I don't own an Xbox, and all the Halo fanboys almost killed the entire franchise for me. Had it not been for that DVD,
I would have never known that I actually quite like the storyline.
I agree with being a fan of something, but acting onto it like a religion, or trying to defend it in any possible way to the extreme
seems a bit too much to me. It's a flippin' show for Wily's sake!

I miss Rocko's Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy. They had adult themes which I can laugh at properly nowadays.
I also realise as an adult why I enjoyed Sailor Moon when I was a kid... <_< lol.

Are you awesome?
In bizarro world? Maybe...

Is this a topic for underrated games as well? Because I love this one game that I'm sure you've all never heard of or played.

I have heard of it, not played it though. (saw it on an episode of SNI too!)

i'm sure a lot of you have heard of this game...i think

Which Army Men game is that? It looks all right!
It's almost like the untold story of the Toy Story army men.  :p

I loved the Army Men World War series.
They had heaps of action and stuff you'd expect from the Medal of Honor series.

I have two from HAL Laboratory, and I have 3 good reasons why I think I should share them.  :)
1. One of them is a well known series, yet I have yet to meet heaps of people who have played it.
2. The other one is really good but I have heard it was not released in the US.
3. It's not Kirby, which while being great, always steals HAL's limelight, lol.

(click to show/hide)
While all three are similar, the third one seems to be the most complete of the series, and is the one I personally grew up with.
It's a unique game, and a very fun and intriguing puzzle game, I am surprised there has been no DS remake or something.
Essentially you collect hears (some give you ammo) and then activate the jewel box and progress through the level. Easy to learn, hard to master.  :) Add an awesome and catchy soundtrack and you've got yourself a winner!

(click to show/hide)

The next game by HAL Laboratory is the New Ghostbusters 2 (a lot better than the er... Activision one?).
I learned later that this wasn't released in the US? (I'm from Australia so I wouldn't know) but this game was awesome.
You control the zapper (Button A) and your buddy follows you and is the trapper (button B) and your buddy can't be hurt.
Easy to learn, good graphics, and a killer soundtrack based on the movie, this game was very well polished.

These 2 and Kirby's Adventure all share the awards for representing HAL Laboratory, and some of my all time faves in my collection.  :D

Spy is one of those classes that takes some time getting used to. I used to suck at spy, but now I can say I'm at
least half decent, lol. Sometimes over planning (Solid Snake style) is not as good as taking a risk and jumping in.
You should try this:

It took a while for people to actually notice tags like that coz they're too busy playing the game, but once you get
them at their own spawn, it's quite hilariously fun, especially when they go looking for you afterwards.  :D
