Anything Goes / Re: The Ska or Punk Topic
« on: November 26, 2010, 06:39:40 PM »
Ahh nice man, ha ha, I think that's the only Bosstones song I know (might be another one not sure). I'm not a massive fan on punk and ska, but I do know the more popular ones.

Ah nice, I liked the Streetlight Manifesto one, nice up-beat tune and funny lyrics. And yeah, I don't mind Holiday in Cambodia. I imagine it must have been radical for the early 80's. I hope you also liked the Magnet Man ska remix, ha ha, I was reminded of it.

I don't mind this remix actually. I'm not a huge fan of remixes of existing songs, but I do like this cover:

Gotta love the up-beat ska tunes.

Ahh right, I noticed it lagged with my web browser open so I closed it. As for when I played Crystal Man's stage, I only had MSN open. I wonder if that was enough to set it off? Certain stages lag more than others (Wave Man lags in certain areas) but Crystal Man's stage specifically decided to conk out.

I hope I get it working, and if I have to download a patch, I hope I can keep my saved file (I'm so close to clocking it! lol).

Anything Goes / Re: The heavy metal topic!

Green bro! I've been listening to the last songs you posted, and I will give my thoughts on them.

The Bereaved one was all right, it sounded a bit like Doom at the start, which was all right but yeah, I thought the singing was a bit awkward at times, otherwise not bad.

The In Flames one was really good! It was melodic and it sounded good. Only peeve about it... the singing > < lol. I think he could have sung it better (to my taste, lol). I'm not a huge fan on growling, lol. Otherwise, a great song. For some reason, the music reminded me of Ninja Gaiden 3:

The Allegeaon one was not bad. Very fast and an interesting mix, but not my cup of tea, ha ha ha.

The Idle Blood one is quite a nice song, and a nice escape from the loud noises that is metal, ha ha. I don't know many Opeth songs, but I hear this band was compared to it a fair bit.

The last song (forgot who) was interesting, and I found myself digging it eventually. =P

All right, now for a few songs that I quite like. This one you will know Vyreman, but I'll throw it out there for others who may not have heard it. This is one of my fave songs from Judas Priest, and I especially love the melodic solo at 2:49!

This next band I just got to know recently. They were an 80's British heavy metal band, but I think lesser known. This first song is one of their most famous ones, and is one that got me into them. The second song is so catchy I found myself singing it, ha ha ha. Their heavy metal seems almost "pop-like" at times, but they're so catchy it seems to work.

It's funny I seem to listen to all "oldies" but I think classic is best anyway? Very few new bands I like, but I might think of some and post them next!

You know you've played too much MM8BDM when the Top Spin weapon is feared. "Holy shit! Run away, he's got Top Spin!" lol.

Speaking of ringtones, my msg tone is the MM death sound effect. My "msg tone" seems to go off a lot in MM8BDM, lol!

I was playing MM8BDM again, and for the second time it crashed on Crystal Man's stage. It's odd, I play it for a few seconds and it crashes.

Could this be an issue with skulltag, or is my computer that old?
It tends to lag a fair bit, and I think it gets to the point where it just gives up.

Any feedback would be thankful, cheers!

Ahh, I see what ya did thar!  :p
Before I go back to the metal topic (sorry green bro, I have a lot of videos to watch, lol, that and I have to think of more cool songs to recommend to ya) I thought I'd post one of the only ska songs I know (which was a pretty popular one back in the 90's). I quite like this tune!

Also, just for fun:

EDIT: I know that song from the Dead Kennedy's. It must have been pretty radical and out there for 1980.  :D

Ha ha ha Korby. What if I put my name Snake in white text with a blue ba... oh wait, that would now be even more confusing, lol.

Nice work Vyreman =P I wonder if I should put my name in another colour, or have some crazy gif of a dancing Snake Man or something, that doesn't give seizures? I'll think about it.  :p

Hey green bro!

Nice that you made your own topic (looking at all the vids, yes, it's good that you made your own one, hahaha!). Before I listen to every single song though (there are a lot, lol) I thought I'd post a few (so you don't wait forever) and I'll comment on the three songs that I listened from the list so far.  :D

The first one, um... Scar something (dammit, I had it in my mind, lol) was quite good! And interesting. It had that 80's feel, thrown into this neo world, with some "death" undertones. It's quite interesting seeing how it all worked together, and yes, that guy has a great vocal range (good that he can sing too, not just "grunt" ha ha).

Second vid I saw was the one by... crap, lol Efiserum Eff...something, lol, the melodic/symphonic/death/folk metal one. It's something similar in a way as to what I'd listen to, except slightly distinct. I was digging it actually, and it's something typical of some of the more (cheesier? lol) power metal bands, that sing about legends and dragons and what not, which is pretty cool in my book.

Third song i listened to was the first Epica one you listed. I think my friend will dig this! She got me into Nightwish (symphonic metal FTW!) and this band somewhat reminds me of them, which is a big thumbs up! I don't mind the grunting in the background either, infact it reminds me of some Evanescence songs (Amy Lee is a brilliant singer!). So yeah, you've opened me up to a few new bands so far, which I will look into further (I gotta listen to your other links too, lol).

In the mean time, I'll post a few songs I find interesting.

All right, thought I'd post a couple more Helloween songs (seeing as they're the fathers of Power Metal). Funny you say, my friend is into grindcore. I've listened to Pig Destroyer and think how the drummer doesn't get tired, lol. I don't listen to much Thrash metal, for similar reasons you give, although I have to say I dun mind a few (Metallica in this case doesn't count, lol, they're so versatile that you can't just call them "thrash metal" and they're a band I'm liking more every day). And Mike, I agree, it's why I seek the more melodic stuff, coz I can't listen to RARARARARARA or something with awful vocals and really plain and boring instrumentals. Anyways! lol....
(click to show/hide)

Now for a band that was inspired by Helloween (I'm pretty sure). Stratovarius: technically Neo-classical power metal (or speed metal), the vocals are inspired by 80's power metal, meanwhile the instrumentals are inspired by classical music, would you believe?
(click to show/hide)

Finally, a song by one of my favourite bands, Queen! Sure, Queen are rock and pop and many other genres, but not metal. Although, one of their songs (made in 1975 I think?) may very well be the very first thrash metal song (by accident even? lol). Some people say it has influences, but it would have been very progressive at the time wouldn't you think? It's no wonder Metallica covered this song!

(click to show/hide)

Well that's all from me for now, enjoy while I listen to some more songs, ha ha.

EDIT: You put Powerslave by Iron Maiden! Woot! I got that album not long ago, loving it!

For sure man.  :) I think DTD got his achievement and is now officially (and literally) beyond 1337, lol.

I'll have a look at that topic shortly.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Megaman 10, Worth It?
« on: November 25, 2010, 11:56:12 AM »
I got it on Pee Ess three (yes... I said pee, lol).

I forgot to add also, if anyone has noticed: The Endless Attack Mode: in MM9 and MM10, some parts of the levels look mighty familiar hey? That's because they are remakes of the original levels. =P In MM10, I played two parts that I recognised from MM5's Wily stages. See if you find them. =)

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Favorite Boss Theme From Any Mega Man Game
« on: November 25, 2010, 11:13:31 AM »
My personal fave has to be MM3's boss theme.

Something about it that sounds right, it's got that sinister intro, and after the boss' health meter fills up it kicks into this rather "intimidating" musical piece, which gives you a feeling you're in trouble.

As for Wily themes, it used to be MM4's Wily fight (short but epic music, despite Wily himself was not that hard). Now I think I can give it to MM10's Wily Machine fight (the music is amazing, and even more epic than MM4's theme I'd say). Shame the Wily Capsule theme in MM10 wasn't as epic, but it was still a good track (kind of nostalgic, it reminded me in some parts of MM5's Wily capsule theme).

You know you've played too much MM8BDM when for a split-second, you forget that Mega Man was originally in 2D   lol.
