General Gaming Discussion / MegaMon (now with MegaDex v1!)

LET'S JUST DO MEGAMON.
Quote from: "Korby"
Again, Toady was going to do that for G/S/C I think.

Seeing as how they are now two different games I thought they should have two different threads. THIS IS NOW THE "OFFICIAL" CUTSTUFF MOD FOR POKEMON. Proof:
Quote from: "MagnetMan497"
OK, screw this, I'm going to make this mod if I get SmashBro's permission. CutStuffMon is too tiring to fill, I prefer this.

I'll update this first post with new things, news, updates, and the like.

Or should I say FINNished... hahahaha PUNSSSSSS

For the name of the blog, I'd go with something like 8-bit Blog or something.  Even though that really doesn't have MM8BDM in the name, it would be catchy.
You mean like this?

EDIT: how do you get here

YET ANOTHER CRAPPY FANGAME THREAD!!

Unlike last time, I have a (gimped) engine with a beta level and simple mechanics. I also have all of the Robot Masters, Wily Bosses, stage "themes", shop items, Master Weapons, etc. all planned out, they're not going to change (much).

I also realize my older plans were a bit "ambitious". Srsly, past me? 16 playable characters? Holy shit that's a lot of coding to do! Now, I only plan on five characters: Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass, Auto (bought), and Hub Style (secret).

I plan on keeping this thread relatively up-to-date with new details. I'm working on a video of the engine so hopefully that'll be up within a few days.

NEW ~ Shop List (tentative prices/items, this may change at any moment)

Dr. Light's Laboratory (trades in bolts for items)
Extra Body (40 Bolts): Gives the player an extra life.
E-Tank (80 Bolts): Refills all of the player's health.
W-Tank (80 Bolts): Refills all the ammo of one weapon.
M-Tank (200 Bolts): Refills all weapons ammo to the MAX and also refills all health!
X-Tank (100 Bolts): Automatically refills a weapon's ammo when it runs out, allowing for constant use.
Screwdriver (200 Bolts): This useful tool lets you unscrew your helmet from the rest of your armor.
Cracker Launcher (1337 BOLTS!): It's a cannon that shoots fireworks! Cool, huh?

The Cossack Citadel (trades Wily Medals for items)
Slide Adaptor (there to start): An armor-modifying part that allows Proto Man to slide.
Charge Adaptor (there to start): A buster-modifying part that allows Mega Man to charge shots.
Move Buster (there to start): An armor-modifying part that allows Bass to move while shooting.
Limit Breaker (after you unlock Auto): Coding that overclocks Auto's backpack. Increases maximum Jetpack fuel.
Wire Adaptor (you get this free): A grappling hook that allows our hero to ascend to new heights.
Wily Finale (after beating the 8 RMs): A screen-clearing blast! Uses a small amount of HP instead of ammo.
Cossack Finale (after beating the 8 RMs): A screen-clearing blast! Uses up a lot of Weapons Energy, though.
Scouter (after beating Meteor Man): This device reads enemy strength levels. What is its use...?
Water Gun (after beating Geyser Man): A fun children's toy. What is its use...?
Cyber Wings (after beating Dragon Man): Futuristic-looking wings. What do they do...?
Synthesizer (after beating Sequence Man): A popular program that has a simulated singer. What is its use...?
Toga (after beating Angel Woman, lol): Fun for parties but not much else. What is its use...?
Stopwatch (after beating Neon Man): Useful for recording how much time things take. What is its use...?
Wooden Shield (after beating Hermit Man): A simple shield crafted by hand. What is its use...?
Detonator (after beating Tectonic Man): A part to a bomb that allows for remote activation. What is its use...?
Final Challenge (after the game is cleared on Hard AND all Wily Medals are collected): Unlocks the Lunatic Stages.
Personal Terminal (after the game is cleared on Normal): A handheld electronic device that stores a powerful program.
Item Storage (after the game is cleared on Easy): A special vault that makes all characters' Tanks one shared collection.
Boots of Nimbus (after beating Perfect Dragon Man): A useful weapon that allows you to safely hover over spikes.

OLD STUFF FROM THE FAILURE OF A THREAD

Here's the storyline of the game (at least the opening anyway, no spoilers for you), tucked away in convenient spoiler format!

Here's all of the bosses in the game, listed in weakness order! And instead of just having a crappy list of names, I decided to have a less crappy list of boss dialogues against Mega Man (a la Powered Up style).

^ NEW STUFF ADDED, CHECK ABOVE ^

I'm looking for the following to help speed up this production:

Completed (enough) Mega Man engine (I can't figure out pausing/sliding to save my life)
Pixel Artists (mainly for the Robot Masters in 8-bit)
Tileset Artists (to make the stages look totally pimpin'!)
Off-Da-Chain Chiptunes (in other words, 8-bit music)

MM8BDM Discussion / The Cossack Citadel
« on: April 08, 2011, 02:11:10 AM »
Quote from: "Zaxx"
This is pretty silly that I am on day two looking for still looking for patches to so I can join some severs.

Firstly, search function on forums suck. Always. Every forum. Though I am super grateful for the people who have point me to some there is always this sort of snippy attitude about it.

I'm hardly non-technical as I work IT and audio but I can't make heads or tails of where these are to be found. Here's an idea, Add all the patches to the WIKI for the game. Thats what they do on private servers for WoW. Or maybe zip up one file with all of the popular ones in it! Heck, lets get real wild and even include it in the download client for the game! This thread is just full of people talking about why they shouldn't post the patches here and how easy they are to find. They are not easy to find.  I have other friends waiting to play too that have played from when this game launched (as did i) that can't find the patches either. It's silly. If they were so easy to find then the forum wouldn't be flooded with people asking where they can find them!

Actually, I thought of this a long time ago!

I'd like to introduce my website, The Cossack Citadel. It was designed to organize all of the 8-Bit Deathmatch fans at my campus (yep, all 11 of us ) and provide regular access to local LAN servers which host a multitude of map packs, game modes, and modifiers.

The two main draws to the site are the blog and the downloads page. The blog gives schedules for servers and matches, and also tells the "Soviets" about new game modes and such, but you don't go to my campus so that's not important. What IS important, though, is the Cossack Packs found on the downloads page. Here, I've taken the time to download the latest Deathmatch software, add all the most popular maps, mods, skins, and weapons, include a couple obscure projects for good measure, then compile it all into a hugeass file for your enjoyment.

New players are recommended to check out my website. It gives general tips about new modes and maps in the blog and keeps a running total of all the popular addons in the dowloads section. Other than that, it's all stuff concerning the LAN campus servers, so you probably don't care. :p

Also, there's no rule against advertising and this has to do with Deathmatch so no locky for me

The site can be found at 8bitclub.weebly.com in case you were wondering.

Happy travels!

Check this out, it's the shit:

Basically, it combines aspects of Star Force with the gameplay of Battle Network. You can use NaviCust, Cross Soul, etc.... but you can also use Noise Changes too. Lots of Star Force cards like Mad Vulcan, Jet Attack, and Wide Wave have been added. Of course, the creators Brianuuu and aHackerJack added their own "original" cards like Django (the hero from Gun Del Sol), Z-Force (a sword card based on Mega Man Zero), and Double Mega Man (where SF Mega and Mega.EXE team up to attack). Because it's a ROM hack, it's compatible with VBA-Linker, so it also supports online play, meaning there's really NO reason to not download this and play it.

Have fun kids~

EDIT: I realized that I only posted a video. WHOOPS

DECORATE and ACS Modifications / Somebody get on this NOW
« on: March 28, 2011, 04:37:43 PM »
TORNADO BLOW

I honestly think this could be the "new" Gravity Hold. It would send nearby players in a radius flying all around while making tornado sprites rise upward. The tornados rip and deal damage to players if they touch one; otherwise, the attack deals very little damage (if any damage at all) and only throws people around. Sort of like v1c Gravity Hold, eh?

It works because that's what it did in MM9. It would throw light-weight enemies off-screen and damage enemies hit by a tornado, while also making Mega Man's jump lighter temporarily. The DeathMatch version would toss players around and only hurt them if they were hit by one of the four (maybe more?) tornados.

It also works because in MM9 a single use of Tornado Hold would eat up 7 WE bars, meaning you can only use it FOUR TIMES before it's gone. I think it should be used up fast and fill like a normal weapon; that is, a small WE capsule only regens 2 ammo out of 28.

Someone get on this ASAP, we need our trolling and flying bodies back :ugeek:

EDIT: In case you didn't believe my description of Tornado Hold. http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Tornado_Blow

Cutstuff Discussion and Feedback / WTF
« on: March 10, 2011, 04:46:22 PM »
The Dark Fantasy theme is not available anymore. To make matters worse, all the smileys, medals, etc. that were in "CutmanMike" style show up as broken images (the empty box with the red X in it).

What's going on? Now the forum looks all... n00bish.

Help & Editing / A launcher without a Host tab
« on: February 28, 2011, 09:15:13 PM »
PMs from me and Mikey should sum everything up.

Quote from: "SmashBroPlusB"
This might sound like an odd request, but... could you make a launcher for Deathmatch that lacks the "Host" tab?

My school is planning to have an all-night LAN gaming party, and Deathmatch has been chosen as a game to play (alongside popular games like WoW, CoD, and Starcraft).

The plan is to have a few servers running with the event's moderators under control, and we don't want a bunch of rogue servers popping up.

Again, really strange request, but I'd really appreciate it if you could do this. Thanks!

Quote from: "CutmanMike"
Sorry, I don't have time to dig out the source code for the launcher. What you could do is write a .bat file that runs Skulltag and loads the MM8BDM files via command line and just give that out to people instead of the launcher.

More info here: http://zdoom.org/wiki/Command_line_parameters

It would end up something like: skulltag.exe -iwad megagame.wad -file MM8BDM-v1c.pk3 +join (IP ADDRESS HERE)

Post about this in the help forum, someone familiar with batch files should be able to help

tl;dr: I need some sort of program that will just "launch" MM8BDM, with no Host options. Kudos to anyone who can help me out.

MM8BDM Discussion / Cossack Attack!
« on: January 30, 2011, 09:24:32 PM »
... ANYWAY, I was just at the thread about Unfaded and the whole situation about clans and such. So, I decided to put together a clan that's all about not being a clan. :p I call it... COSSACK ATTACK! rhyming ftw

What is Cossack Attack? Cossack Attack is meant to be a group of players who want nothing more than to kick back and have fun, casual matches. Members of Cossack Attack would be friendly to other players and community members, encourage fair play, and generally would be nice people to be around. Members of Cossack Attack would also have the same "base" packs of skins/maps/mods, to make playing with one another as simplistic as possible.

Why is this here? I wanted to have a group-of-sorts where friends could easily recognize each other and get together for matches. Really though, I just wanted to start something cool for those of us without a clan. :p

What's the emphasis on casual play all about? I want to go pro! Most clans get so caught up on being number one and getting notoriety that they forget what the game's all about: HAVING FUN. Also, I don't want CutmanMike to say "HAY NO SKULLTAG FORUM CRAP THOSE GUYS ARE ASSHOLES BLARGH TOPIC LOCK".

So, basically, what's the overall point? To be able to have a server or two dedicated to wholesome casual fun, and to try and debunk the opinion that "good players MUST be Hardcore Players". Also, cool tags next to your name. :p

I'm non-competitive, and I'm proud!
COSSACKS GONNA COSS.

MM8BDM Discussion / Project D.E.R.P.
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:29:50 PM »
A few friends at my school say that I can imitate the Halo announcer pretty well. So I got to thinking, what if Deathmatch had an announcer like the Halo games that announced certain things? This led to my idea of starting the Deathmatch Energetic Recordings Project, or D.E.R.P.

Examples of dialogue:

"Team... Deathmatch."
"Last... Man... Standing."
"One minute to win!"
"Double Kill."
"Killing Spree!"

Basically, I need a list of every achievement, game mode, and status update in the game so I can make a list of dialogues. If someone else would like to record their voice as well, by all means go for it.

Please and thank you!

Help & Editing / Canon vs. Fanmade
« on: October 19, 2010, 08:24:28 PM »
I was going to get into the editing scene for Deathmatch. You know, we can never have too many CTF maps, am I right?

The thing is, I was going to make stages based on my Mega Man fangame, and I was going to ask for some help with coding their weapons.

HOWEVER
A lot of you don't seem to think that material that is not canon can be accepted. Hell, many of you hade fanmade SKINS that aren't canon. So why am I going to crank out maps if they aren't going to be used?

For grins, the list of weapons is below. I made descriptions based on how I think they would work in 3D.

Mega Man Discussion / Mega Man: Insert Clever Title Here

Hey, I'm starting a thread to log things about my fangame I'm working on. It actually doesn't have a title (hence the thread name), but I do know that Dr. Cossack will be making his triumphant return!

Here's all of the bosses in the game, listed in weakness order! And instead of just having a crappy list of names, I decided to have a less crappy list of boss dialogues against Mega Man (a la Powered Up style).

Help & Editing / [HELP FILE] controls help 4 n00bz
« on: October 13, 2010, 08:16:17 PM »
Lots of people at my school have been asking "What controls do you need to play?" and I though some newbs here would be thinking the same thing. I mean, have you SEEN the Controls list? So many useless buttons. :P

So, here's a helpful list of all the controls you need, as well as some optional buttons and what they all do!

An asterisk (this thingy ---> * ) indicates an OPTIONAL action.
