MM8BDM Discussion / Re: "Playing to win" in 8BDM
« on: April 13, 2013, 10:12:47 AM »
There's some good points in there concerning competitive gaming, but as you can tell with his "Akuma exception" and the replies to the article (where he refuses to hear anyone out and edits comments to insert his responses), even "top players" cry foul about cheap factors. Programmed games help make sure players go along for the most part, but there will always be problem cases where someone will see a tactic as unfair (for example, one person could see crashing a server as them winning the game, while everyone else I'm sure would disagree).

It all comes down to playing by the rules, in-game and "made-up", that are relative to where you are. If you're playing with a friend, you should both be playing in a way that is comfortable and fair to you both. If they see something as overly cheap and can't get past it, you should either stop using the tactic or stop playing because they're not going to have any fun if they're up against a brick wall (I'm not saying you should quit out as soon as someone cries cheap... just to watch out for an extreme situation). If you're playing in a server or a tournament, you have to go by the rules set there... no picking banned characters, using tactics that are banned, etc... otherwise you'll get kicked out.

Just use common sense and don't be a jerk about what it absolutely right or wrong to do.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: The REAL Mega Man FPS

I wanna see gritty Chill Penguin.

Yay! Dragon Man! : )

I hope you guys do some great stuff with him! I know it's not a very original idea, but I'm hoping he can be a -cool- Robot Master that will help increase interest in the game.

You could change him to Purple Monkey Dishwasher Man shooting soap suds and face-planting to kill himself after 10 seconds of battle and I'd still be ok with it. (any and all changes are a-ok with me.)

How could you ever lose interest in any Mega Man series?

I noticed this a while ago but I don't think I posted how none of the X1 bosses have walk cycles except for Vile's ride armor.
Hey that's p neat! It's lame to take damage from a boss just walking into you (and hard to dodge even though it's not really an -attack-) so I wonder if this was done on purpose to keep things interesting. X1 is rad, yo.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Robot Master Design Contest. (Megaman Fangame)

Dragon Man

Notes
-Older Robot Master idea I had which never got used for anything
-Original drawing is on the left while new concept art with changes and updates are on the right
-Sort of a mix between Snake Man and Shade Man
-Focus should be put on his ability to fly, making him more air-based like Air Man and Wind Man

Battle Tactics
-Takes to the air, making it hard to hit him without a proper weapon or raised terrain
-Dives down quickly to cut into Mega Man, landing with some impact that might send out shockwaves
-Can also dash to the sides with a similar attack
-Might also throw out some lasting fire traps mid-air, to limit Mega Man's footing before he dives down

Gained Weapon: Dragon Dash
-Lets Mega Man do a short dash in any of the 8-directions surrounding him
-During a boost, Mega Man is invincible to most things, and it damages most enemies as he passes through
-There's no changing direction after a dash is made, and only certain obstacles, like walls, will cancel a dash prematurely
-Ideal for maneuvering easily through levels, reaching high areas or jumping over large pits
-Can be dangerous in spiked areas and other places as unrestrained use can result in landing somewhere undesirable

I'm always for Mega Man being taken in BRAVE, NEW directions. I know people will cry foul because of Bomberman Zero and other travesties, but a new next-gen look for Mega Man could turn out fun if done right.

This was a blast to try out! I don't think I could manage the HARD mode, though! Easy was already a challenge!

I don't think it should be removed entirely. I like the things they post/host. Like those Toy Story games. Hoho, memories.
Where would CutStuff be today without Buzz and Woody?!

Wow thanks a lot guys!

> Flame Sword on Elec-Man is useless; I can't see it being used practically at all.  It's out of the way, on a map that is very anti-melee, and overall it feels like it was there more so the new people coming in could see one of the new promised MM8 weapons.

I'm going to venture a guess and say this was purely put there so Elec man could have his true colors (I just played the map in campaign and saw him with it and he looked awesome). Truthfully though, I don't see the harm in having a close-up weapon available as an extra means of attacking, especially if you're in a less chaotic mode.

I'm loving this so far, and wanna thank all the people who have put so much work into this expansion, because it really does feel like you put a bunch of work into not only adding new cool features, but fixing small little details and things that previously were thought/were for reals impossible (moving WITH platforms is blowing my mind).

This expansion is just, super super impressive. I'm still going to try out single player, but I look forward to doing some multiplayer soon too!

The new Light Lab hub area is amazing! I've only barely gotten to try this update out, but I'm already floored. Congratulations on this release, you all did an awesome job!
