Mega Man Discussion / Re: Classic megaman,in 3D gammeplay?

I think a lot of people would love this, but aren't sure how to properly go about it. If you have an idea, go for it; if you can make it work, people will take notice.

It is jamming! Amazing work again, RJ1! Completely covering Mega Man 1-3 is nuts and awesome. I dig the playthroughs, too! I've been trying to beat the games without losing a life and it's way hard, and I don't even do it buster only. So uhm, double amazing!

I like the creepy build-ups to things like the final boss battle, and all the neat variations of the Wily level themes.

He's like an entire head taller than Mega Man is, jeez.
Haha, Heatman commented similarly when seeing the Bass trophy; I think he said it seemed like they based it off of his Mega Man 7 look, rather than 8-bit sprite/early Mega Man art proportions.

All of the Mega Man trophies are too rad. They look so cooooooooooool!

The latest update has some cool new screens of the game, but it also has a tidbit I thought some artists/designers here would find interesting:

I want to hold another robot design contest so bad!! Backer or not, send us a message if you’d like to participate! If enough people ask for it I’d love to do it again.

I always cursed myself for missing out on the Robot Master design contests of the old days, so having a new chance to submit Robot Designs to be reviewed and redrawn by Keiji Inafune and KIMOKIMO is pretty cool. If anyone is interested, they should tweet at Mighty No. 9's twitter account or email them at mightyno9(at)comcept.jp and say you're interested.

I don't know about Mega Man 9 (I can't think of where they would call him Rock)
I believe it was in the digital manual for it or so? I can't remember exactly.

Goodness about them calling him "Mega" again though, I think Capcom just can't be consistent! Hasn't Metool/Mettaur been thrown about randomly too?
Haha, ya. For the longest of time (and still off-hand) I call them "Metool" because that was the name given to an old MUGEN character based off of one, so that's what I became familiar with. I dunno if that name/spelling is based off some better known source... In the credits of Mega Man X on SNES, it's listed as "METTOOL C-15" and the virus is called "Mettool" in MMBN1 (while they're renamed to "Mettaur" in MMBN2 and beyond). At the very least, they stuck with Mettaur in Smash Bros., heh.

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but while looking up this stuff I found it funny that this guy was named Gun Volt, lol.

The "Rock and Roll" connection is still there since Megaman is still known as Rock, without the armor. That's what Megaman 9 stated, did it not? I mean after the disaster of calling him Mega in Powered Up.

So yeah. Megaman all the waaaaay!
It's funny you bring this up, because in Dr. Light's trophy for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U, they actually call him "Mega" again (lol).

I don't know about Mega Man 9 (I can't think of where they would call him Rock) but they for sure called him Rock in the intro to Mega Man 4. Also, his original name is Rock in both the Ruby-Spears Cartoon and the Archie Comic series as well (altho they do like calling him "Mega" in the cartoon).

I've seen at least one person suspect this was the result of a mistranslation error, although they could have based it off of Powered Up. I'd be interested to see Dr. Light's trophy description in the European version, since they went with "The Blue Bomber" instead of "Blue Metal Hero" for his Boxing Ring title.

Well, I like how Rockman sounds, and like the connection to "rock and roll". If Capcom were to start using it as the brand name in the US (in an Eggman situation), I would probably always call it Rockman. Mega Man is pretty cool too, though, and since it's the English name, that's what I usually go with.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Least Favorite MMBN boss?

I'm not familiar enough with all of the fights to choose, but I will say the first thing that popped in my heads was clouds- which is pretty funny after reading Emmanuelf06's and Swordkirby's posts lol. Any Navi... heck, any boss that plays hide-n-seek and takes forever to fight is just lame.

I just finished playing through Layton Vs. Wright, and enjoyed it for the most part. The unique twist on testimonies was neat, as was the medieval-fantasy setting and how Phoenix reacted to it. The graphics and music were wonderful, and it was cool having classic Phoenix Wright and Maya taking on new cases. I've never played any of the Layton series before, but I enjoyed the brain-teaser puzzles too; the investigation parts of AA games can be a little dry, so I think Layton's contribution of puzzles helped in that regard.

One thing I wasn't a fan of (end game spoilers)
(click to show/hide)

I do hope they localize the newest one, because I'm all for a drastic change in setting/characters/gameplay. I remember the first time I played AA4 I was a little weirded out by it because the tone and setting was so different, but after playing AA5 I went back and played it again and enjoyed it a lot more.

ROM hacks do count as cool fangames, but I don't list them here, sorry.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Megaman, R.I.P.

As far as I've seen, Capcom (more specifically, Capcom-Unity) has been supportive of fan projects, especially involving Mega Man. They backed Street Fighter X Mega Man and two tribute music albums, and they did feature MM8BDM on their blog around the time of it's original release. It's actually a bit surprising to see compared to companies like Square Enix who do seem to regularly shut down fan projects. That's not to say Capcom wouldn't shut down a fan project (especially if it was trying to big time profit off of the Mega Man IP), but the people working at Capcom-Unity now and in the past hear and relate to wanting more Mega Man. Which is pretty cool!

Capcom, of course, has also been pushing digital re-releases of past titles, which is also rad. It gives a chance for people old and young to discover/rediscover series like classic, X, and Battle Network in an easy and accessible way. Thanks to those releases and Super Smash Bros., seeing Mega Man on the eShop is actually a fairly common sight.

Despite the gap in official game releases, I feel like Mega Man has a lot going on for him right now, which actually makes fans more antsy than ever for a new game!

Ever since the DS came out, I've wanted a portable Super Smash Bros.; Super Smash Bros for 3DS really went beyond my expectations for what a portable Super Smash Bros. could be, and I have been enjoying the heck out of it. Not only is this the latest version, with all the characters and great graphics, but it's the one with Mega Man in it! Having stuff like online is cool and all, but I just wanted a way to play Super Smash Bros. on the go. I love it!

So of course, I find it a little weird to see people bashing it now, calling it things like the incomplete version or a Beta/Alpha, and that people were tricked into buying it. In the past, portable versions of games on the Gameboy always meant something like Street Fighter II on Gameboy, with less characters and much worse graphics, gameplay, and sound. I guess these days, it isn't too farfetched to expect the exact same experience with stuff like the PSVita playing PS3 quality games, but I feel like it still holds up as a solid game on its own.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Rockman Xover is coming to end...

I never got around to downloading/playing it either. Even if it would have had an English release, I really don't like playing games on my phone, regardless of quality. Obviously, it came as an insult to most Mega Man fans, but it honestly seems like an okay Mobile game (simple controls, collectibles).

I listened to the OST playlist on Youtube for the first time and didn't realize it had some cool remixes (or at least the soundtrack did?). I was also surprised to see Airman ga Taosenai (or at least, a snippet of it) on there, just for the sake of it being used in an -official- Mega Man game. I like Over-1's design, and grown Kalinka was cool too.

Totally agree with your last sentiment; not much to say except I hope the next thing turns out cooler.

I always feel weird about games like Remember Me, because a lot of people complain about Capcom and other game companies doing nothing but sequels, but when they try a new IP like Remember Me it doesn't end up selling well. Of course, this is a natural danger for any new IP; people don't know what to expect, and sometimes it's genuinely bad and sometimes it's good but goes unnoticed. I have not personally played Remember Me, so I can't really say where it falls...

I see Mega Man in a similar situation as Konami's Goemon, as they're both cartoon-styled arcade-like games that just don't fit well into the mold of what most major modern games are. What I see when I watch Sony and Microsoft at E3 are first and third person shooters with graphics that lean toward realism, or fantasy games on the level of Dark Souls and Skyrim. While it'd be possible to transform Mega Man or Goemon into one of these types of games, I think many fans would be against the change (not to say that there wouldn't be any fans, but I could definitely see a Bomberman: Act Zero type of response, plus fans like the original art styles!).

The biggest exception of course is Nintendo produced games on Wii U. Those games do continue to have high quality cartoon graphics with classic styled (but still new!) gameplay. This is another reason I think people would like to see Nintendo collaborate with Capcom on a project, since they seem the best equipped for the job.

It's a difficult situation, but I'm hoping for the best too. I would love to be surprised next year at a games conference or on a Nintendo Direct.
