Yea, it'd be kind of a let down if it was just an already existing character. Someone new and cool would be hype! The male and female designs thing reminds me of Dragon Quest 4 and Pokemon, would be neat!

Any design contest is bound to get some wacky entries, but I'm sure there'd be a slew of really cool ones too. I could see it being a big hit in the Mega Man art community, and help spread the word about the game some more.

Of course, the MM8BDM development team would get the final say anyways. Whether they take in outside designs and mold it to their liking (like Mega Man Robot Master contests days of old) or forgo the contest and develop it internally, it's def something I'd like to see!

While I'm all for the hero robot being whatever skin you want it to be, I kind of like the idea of a contest for the hero robot's design BECAUSE:

-Could be sort of a mascot for MM8BDM; an easy way to show people in art and other things that "hey, this is that FPS shooter game with that cool(???) original character"
-Wouldn't really change anything in-game besides being the default skin; players can still change to whoever they want
-Mega Man robot design contests are the bomb and this could be a really cool one

That ending was HYPE! I was thinking maybe something from Mega Man 9 or Mega Man V so I was caught off guard, can't wait to see!

Gotta battle with my buddies Mega Man and Bass!

Do you mean you don't like them reusing the designs, the fighting styles, or both?

Battle Network as a whole is a super cool thing to me. I know some people who even don't play Battle Network but like the idea of alternate universe versions of Robot Masters. Considering the Classic Mega Man series and its Robot Masters is my number 1 love, I do like it more when they have that kind of connection as opposed to Starforce, which went all original (they're still neat bosses and designs but a lot more forgettable to me and less exciting than anticipating -which Robot Master redesign is next??-).

I think there's a fair share of redesigns that are crazy-diff/cool (ShadowMan.EXE), same/cool (QuickMan.EXE), crazy-diff/bad(SnakeMan.EXE), and same/bad(AirMan.EXE). It would certainly be a fun art challenge to redraw some of the redesigns that people felt were weak.

IF you're talking about the battle style though... I personally have no problem with them copying or rather applying those things to the new battle system. AirMan.EXE's is the first boss in MMBN2 I think(?) and so it's not too challenging, but it works.

I actually couldn't remember MMBN3's story at all; makes me want to get the one coming out for Wii U so I can play through again (and on the better version).

I love MMBN2 a bunch though, and always forget the part at the end that mentions how Sean forming Gospel and attempting to clone Bass isn't entirely his own doing. It's pretty cool how they continued the story in MMBN3. Also, the role of Cossack sounds neat too.

I'm not super knowledgeable about MMBN's storyline (and I certainly don't know what differences the Japanese versions have) but I can make some guesses.

If we're going purely by the "main storyline" in each game (which doesn't include post-ending content), I would assume Wily was manipulating Sean during MMBN2 to clone Bass.EXEs simply so he could have one to break Alpha's seal. Of course, MegaMan.EXE defeated a clone Bass.EXE and the Multibug Organism Gospel, which lead to Sean's arrest and also being freed from Wily's manipulation.

Without Sean to make Bass.EXE clones, Wily still needed one to free Alpha. As it happens, he was able to find the REAL Bass.EXE, and trick him into a deal so that he would agree to work for him. Apparently, Wily promised Bass.EXE the power to defeat the humans (who betrayed Bass.EXE), and so gullible Bass.EXE followed his orders. Since he now had the real Bass.EXE, there was no longer a need for clones.

There may have been other reasons for cloning Bass.EXE too, such as having an army of them (would be handy!) or because he simply couldn't find or persuade the real Bass.EXE until the events of MMBN3 (the fact that he could find a rare navi like Bass.EXE and persuade him is pretty miraculous, so I can see why cloning would seem ideal at first).

There's a lot of great MMBN chars, but I have to go with Mr. Higsby, huh.

Woaaah, that's awesome! Maybe this really will be a Mega May!

I kind of wanted to make a comic to coincide with the release, so maybe if I'm not totally lazy I can get that ready. Either way, excited to play this on release!

I can't read Japanese either, but from the Google Translation it seems like a short summary of Mega Man's development and sales history with anecdotes about Mega Man 7's short development period (which I'm guessing the article's picture is referencing: the cramped room and overworked people creating a smog) and Kenny Omega. It sounds like it ends with the promise of another series' history on March 27th, but again, that's just an assumption based off of the the broken Google Translation.

Hopefully someone who can read Japanese can come in here and clear things up for real.

Pichu Quest looks pretty hype. Hope he comes back in the next Smash Bros. w/ Roll's theme.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: MegaMan May Actually Be Dead
« on: March 03, 2014, 06:57:54 PM »
I just finished Mega Man 9 again the other day (first I've played it through the whole way through in a long while) and while it did always seem to be more conclusive with it's way cool credits music and pictures, it DID say Wily was nowhere to be found all mysterious-like at the end (and then had that pic of him with Concrete Man but WHATEVER). With how quickly MM10 came out, it did seem like they had plans to make it right after... whereas something like MM11 would have only shown up if both releases were insanely popular.

A franchise can be revived at any time, but ya I think it's safe to say for now Mega Man is way dead. Which kind of sucks! A lot of people say Mega Man has too many sequels, but when the series has such a solid track record of good gameplay, music, designs, and graphics, I can't help but want more.

That's why I (and so many others) have high hopes for Mighty No. 9. It got launched at the perfect time, and could be the series that's similar-yet-different enough to keep Mega Man fans happy. Honestly, with all the past-Mega Man creators involved with Mighty No. 9 right now (Inafune, Tom Pon, the composers, Inticreates), I'm not sure Capcom even has the team to make a proper Mega Man game anymore.

This is soooooooooo good I love it! Really really amazing work gah!

Having read the series makes all the references even cooler, but I think Mega Man fans who haven't would still enjoy this and not have anything spoiled really. There's too much going on so quickly, haha. I'll have to see what my oldest bro thinks.

Also Namco X Capcom's original opening/song is great all on its own but this definitely makes it 10x cooler.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Mighty n°9, the movie?

I WORRY

It's not a big deal though; anything to help promote the series I guess. What's neat is Comcept is being approached by a lot of smaller companies who are interested in doing things with Mighty No. 9, both in response to the success of the Kickstarter and for a love of Mega Man. If Mighty No. 9 does end up fulfilling fan expectations as a game, it will be really cool if they keep moving forward listening to fan requests and providing content and events that really reflects what people want.
