MM8BDM Discussion / Re: MM8BDM Wiki

Ok! After a bit of reading it turns out that no, the default theme cannot be changed. This theme is was recently rolled out to many wikia's due to some dumb exec's decision to make everything "more like facebook". So we can't change it. Oh there's more ads too.

There's quite a few complaints too, some communities even trying to "move" their data to new wikis that don't have ads or that dreaful theme. Doomworld is where I learned about all this, and their arguments are completely valid. The brown doom wiki theme looks down right awful!

Still, it's free I guess.  Keep up the good work, wiki wizards!
Which is exactly why I made the front page layout how it is.  It fits perfectly fine in the 980px width we're forced to put up with.  Now, if I were smart, I would add some other useful links to the front page.  Like..."recent changes", instead of "Wiki Activity"...

*gets to it*

Skins & Bots etc / Re: Squidgy's Shop of Stuff

The helmetless Protoman skin download is still utterly broken.  For me, at the absolute very least.  >_o  Do want.  D:

Tutorial Collection / Re: [TUTORIAL] Using Custom Content in MM8BDM
« on: October 25, 2010, 06:22:47 AM »
You have to make a "skins" folder in your main MM8BDM folder.  Any skins you put into there will then be loaded automatically when you run the game.

Also, your file names shouldn't be prefixed with "category_" to work unless their physical file name is "category_content.ext".  I'm just ridiculously organized when it comes to my personal content, so I used those as examples.  XD

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Fan Stuff! (Art, Music, Sprites, Etc.)
« on: October 25, 2010, 06:19:40 AM »
What ficarra1002 said.  You don't even necessarily have to copy an existing music file's name.  Here's what you do:
- Create a file in SLumpEd. (Instructions can be found elsewhere.)
- Import a WAV, MID, MUS, MP3, or OGG as a new lump.
- Make sure the lump has a maximum of eight letters to its name, either by renaming it, or by making the imported file have eight letters max. (Examples: "TNCSURF", "CCRRZONJ", "BESTMUS")
- Save the file as a WAD. (it might work as other formats, but WAD is suggested.)
- Load the WAD in to Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch. (Instructions can be found in Editing.)
- Open the console. (Tilde ~ key.)
- Type "changemus", then your music's name. (For example, "changemus moonwalk", or "changemus cntbtair".)

And there you have it.  I've done this myself.  For example, I generally "changemus tncsurf" on Waveman's level because I think it's funny watching the level be played with the theme from T&C Surf Designs playing.

Help & Editing / Re: Auto-save lost/not working?
« on: October 24, 2010, 04:07:42 AM »
Okay.  To be very specific, the game saves when you've beaten a chapter boss, then quit the game via the menu.  It only saves if you beat a chapter boss then quit the game normally.  You cannot save in the middle of a chapter, you will not save if you crash.

Well...  Someone did it once.  Why couldn't someone else do it, too?  I've seen harder things to reverse-engineer.

*cue confusing post music*

I wanna see Oil Man's stage done.  I had a hell of a time trying to re-create it in Mega Man Powered Up, and what I came up with wasn't really all that great, so it might be interesting seeing what a 3D version of that level might look like instead!

Oh!  Derp...  Why didn't I think of that? (Probably because I use Adobe Audition?  But nevermind.)  Yeah, Audacity is free and can be used to edit sound files if need be before exporting!  It's win-win!

The same could be asked of the two Mega Man 1 Wily stages.  But ah, nitpicks...  XD

The first thing Google comes up with is something call "FreeRIP", which is indeed free and does exactly what it sets out to do -- convert audio files from one format to another.  I'm not certain if there's any kind of limitations, but I did a quick run with a random file and it seemed to work just fine, so...I dunno.  It's not like there aren't free conversion programs out there and such.  X3

Seriously consider converting those WAV music files to OGG, Ivory.  I know, 8-9 MB isn't much for most people these days, but it's a bit disconcerning when a one-level patch WAD is 20% the total size of the entire game it's patching.  :(
