Skins & Bots etc / Joseph's Modifications (Updated 11/16/10)
« on: October 16, 2010, 06:55:16 PM »
So...I've made some stuff for the game since I've gotten a hold of it and have chosen to share it with you folks.  I'm not sure how useful my stuff would be for most people, since I mostly made it for myself, but here we go!

Please don't ask how to use these files.  The answers are already on the forum.  Plus, it's really easy with the new launcher!

Joseph's Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch Stuff

Tutorial Collection / Re: [TUTORIAL] How to Make Your Own Bots
« on: October 16, 2010, 03:03:57 PM »
According to what I've found, [EnragedStrings] is used when a bot gets the "You Fail It!" Medal (dies five times in a row) and [DemoralizedStrings] is used when a bot gets the "Your Skill Is Not Enough" Medal (dies 10 times in a row).  [PissedStrings] and [FrustratedStrings] might be used for the other two bad medals, "Llama" (fragging a player while he is talking or lagging) and "Spam" (killing multiple enemies simultaneously with the BFG9000.  There's at least one weapon in this mod that also triggers the "Spam" medal, but I can't remember what it was), but I don't know for a fact.

Also, if this hasn't been stated yet, here's some handy-dandy string variables!:
Code: [Select]
$player_killed - Whoever the bot killed last.
$player_killedby - Whoever killed the bot last.
$player_random_notself - Random player besides bot.
$player_inlead - Player who's winning.
$player_lastplace - Player who's last.

Aye.  Download the full game and it should come with its own copy of Skulltag v0.98d?.  The demo version does run under Skulltag v0.98c?, but most people have the full version by now. (Both the demo and the full version are free.)

According to The Mega Man Universe Wiki, a wiki run and maintained by the Mega Man Network:
Quote
Wave Man

Wave Man is marked with a high emotional personality. It's said that he's easily moved to tears. On the other hand, if angered he'll violently thrust his harpoon around until he calms down. He is also very anti-social, and not easily approachable. He enjoys taking walks at the ocean bottom, and hates sludge and chemical waste.
More than likely, this information was taken from a combination of manga, the Rockman Complete Memories guidebook, and maybe other material that've come out either here or in Japan.

Ah, it's nice to see someone appreciating the "Duel" mode.  Deathmatch is interesting, but even with 60-some maps, it can get boring after the 20th or 30th time!  XD

Here's hoping for a Capture the Flag server to pop up at some point as well!  I mean, there's three maps for that!  Why not use 'em?  X3

I like your server!  It's fun!  I can't play due to my crappy connection, but it's still fun to watch!  Good conversation from time to time, too!

They can't sell anything or Capcom can sue them.
Downloadable content isn't always sold.  In the case of Left 4 Dead, for example, the downloadable content was free for the computer versions!

What he means is that the "downloadable" content he mentioned was actually in the game, but you had to pay to unlock them. They were passed off as "downloadable" but they were really already there.
And that's the joke!  8D

Also, as far as I can tell, the boss rush mode doesn't unlock anything.  Or it might be limited to that play session.  I didn't test too thoroughly, myself.

Edit: Well, there's something.  Apparently, if you're playing a game and someone's using the hidden skins, it unlocks the spotted skin (and bot?) for you, too!  Unfortunately, this only applies once per play session.  If you quit the game, the hidden skins (and bots) don't stay unlocked.  :(

Edit: Guessing by the icon on the MM8BDM wiki, it's none other than Joseph Collins!
Daaaaat's right!  X3  I was bored the other night, so I did that up.  It's spoilerriffic, but I'm not sure if it needs spoiler tags at the Doom Wiki. (I did add spoiler tags at the MM8BDM Wiki's version, though.)

On that same topic, thanks for the shiny new medal!  I didn't know I could get a medal from making sizable edits to wikis and such.  o_o

Btw I would refrain from listing the weapons on each stage article for now. Why? Because they might change slightly in future updates, especially when more weapons become available. Let's say you made every stage article for this version of MM8BDM, and then every map had a couple of weapon changes. It would be a nightmare!
We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.  XD  There's only 60-some maps, after all.  And I did make all those weapon and item icon templates to make things extremely easy for people.  But your concern is understandable.  Heh.

I have two theories about the hidden skins (and associated hidden bots):
1. There's codes the devteam isn't letting us in on that let you play with them. (And I don't mean the console "skin" codes.)
2. They're to be "downloadable" content, much like Bass was "downloadable" in Mega Man 10 or Roll and the extra stage packs were "downloadable" in Mega Man: Powered Up.

I wanted to make a topic about this myself, but I didn't really want to ruffle any more feathers than I already had.  XD

I'm innocent! I did nothing wrong! The cake is a lie!

I never really noticed that before, but the truth is I made Sjas out of some weird skewed picture of a face (that I unskewed). I have no idea where the original picture was from. I MIGHT have been from bloodlust software's website but that's changed so much recently so I doubt it.
Sorry to bump this, but I have information which might be relevant to your stuff.

As a longtime fan of Bloodlust Software's products, I can confirm that this is indeed from the old Bloodlust Software site, back when they used to be on OverClocked.org.  Or possibly Troma Entertainment's website.  Do I remember where specifically?  No.  But I do clearly remember it being on there in one of the various pages!

I could probably ask Hellbent, but he's been awfully busy with life lately, so a response might not come in a timely fashion.

I heard something about someone working on a full Scrooge McDuck character skin for this game while I was spectating the usual server. ("Cool Story Mega Man"?)  Now it all makes sense...  XD

Yep.  Sprites Inc..  Also, TASvideos.  XD  And you don't have[/i] to add me in if you don't wanna.  Heh.  Like I said, it's just kinda neat something I made randomly ended up in something cool.  X3
