I know I said this about the Metall EX skin, but I know at least a
couple of you have been waiting for something like this for a while now...

Release Information- What is it?It's the result of three days of spritework combined with a day of testing.
Or... a new skin for Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch. It also includes a bot.
- What does it do?It allows you to play as me, Joseph Collins!
Or rather, my furry incarnation, "Joseph Lithius".
- Who is "Joseph"?Joseph "Doc" Lithius is a character I made to represent me. He's basically me as an anthropomorphic fox thing.
- Anthropo-what?an·thro·po·mor·phic [an-thruh-puh-MAWR-fik]
adjective
1. ascribing human form or attributes to a being or thing not human, especially to a deity.
2. resembling or made to resemble a human form: "an anthropomorphic carving."
Also, an·thro·po·mor·phous.
- How can an anthro-whatsit fox participate in a robot tournament?I'm glad you asked!
The simple explanation: "It's a video game. Don't overthink it."
The stupidly complex explanation:
"Joseph found his way to Mega Man World through a transdimensional portal. Wanting to participate in the tournament, he somehow got himself equipped with a Variable Weapon System Buster and shock-absorbing pads for his shoes which allow him to take long falls like the other robots in the tournament. Any time he "dies", the shoes and buster explode, instantly vaporizing him. Fortunately, he's patched in to the same "Respawner" technology that the other participants are hooked into, including the other organic combatants."
Ever had the urge to shoot me in the face with high explosives? Well now you can! Given that I can't actually play online like a normal human being (due to my satellite internet), I figured this was the next best thing! Possibly even
better, in fact! The bot is actually a little more accurate than I am most of the time!
In all seriousness, this was a good four days of work and I'm really pleased with how the skin turned out! The color palette (aside from the cyan and blue) are authentic NES colors, though I'm sure some of you may have noticed that there's a few colors too many for a strict 8-bit sprite. The simple explanation is that it's a "layered sprite", like a number of the
Mega Man boss characters. In Joseph's case, he uses an absurdly greedy 3 layers -- 3 colors for his body (black, olive-gold, and dark brown), 3 for his clothing and face (white, what
would be blue for his pants, and black), and 3 colors for his outfit overlay (cyan, blue, and black). I thought about reducing the colors to simulate 2 layers, but after seeing official skins like Ballade and Slashman --
especially Slashman -- I decided not to worry about it after all.
I hope you enjoy this skin and the accompanying bot!
As a sidenote, if there's any problems with overlapping skin name ("Joseph"
is pretty generic...) or file names ("JOCO"
should be okay...), I can release a patched version that changes the skin name or data file names.
