I don't wanna work on this no more.  That single sprite took too long.  *sobs grossly*

Edit:

I don't even know what I'm doing here.
So long, in fact, someone else started on their own version.  Eeash.

Help & Editing / Re: Alright, so it's been a while...
« on: August 28, 2013, 06:20:10 PM »
It's not a stupid question.  But the answer is pretty stupid!
----------
The thing of it is, whether you're moving from Skulltag to Zandronum or moving from one computer to another, your default INI file will need to be renamed.  So, depending on what you're doing:
- Rename your old "skulltag-[yourwindowsloginname].ini" file to "zandronum-[yourwindowsloginname].ini".
or
- Rename your old "zandronum-[oldwindowsloginname].ini" file to "zandronum-[currentwindowsloginname].ini"
... and you should be good to go.
(Where [yourwindowsloginname] is would be whatever name Windows sees you as.  For example, if you logged in as "The Cookie Factory", your file would be renamed something like "zandronum-TheCookieFactory.ini".)

Alternately, you can make a copy of the old INI file and rename that for Zandronum.
----------
The last option is to just load the old INI file directly into the game via the -config command line parameter:
- In the official launcher (or any shortcut you've made), add "-config youroldconfig.ini".
(Where "youroldconfig.ini" is, put the name of your old INI file.  As per the example above, "skulltag-TheCookieFactory.ini" would be the file for that computer.)

Hope this helps!

Maps / Re: The MM8BDM Legacy Map pack! (Coming Soon)
« on: August 28, 2013, 06:07:32 PM »
Maybe there should be two map packs: One with just the fan favorites, and one with every single version of every map up 'til now.

I'm good either way, really.  I just hope pre-v3b Waveman is included in either pack.  Nothing was quite as fun as playing around on that stage with the theme from T&C Surf Designs playing in the background.  Ha hah!

Hey, guess what?  It's finally finished and uploaded!  How about that?

Anonyman v3 Skin/Bot/Base Skin Replacement (32.50 KB)
(click to show/hide)
Sooooo... everything works exactly like it should.  No error messages, no complex overriding of peoples' BOTINFO files, nothing like that.  But I did encounter an unexpected bit of silliness while testing.
As noted in the Readme, if you use the base replacement skin while running class-based modifications, any class that uses the default/base skin will appear as Anonyman.  Kind of funny, but also kind of counter-productive to the intention.  My suggestion?  Don't load the base skin replacement file if you intend to play class-based modifications.

I'm also releasing this today:

Megaman (Left-Handed) Skin (13.10 KB)
(click to show/hide)
Nothing special, really.  Just a random thing I whipped up based on my SuperDanny skin.  As stated, this Megaman only uses his left hand. (IE, no sprite mirroring.)

Tutorial Collection / Re: [Scripting] Alias to Announce Current Health?
« on: August 27, 2013, 08:31:58 PM »
I knew... I absolutely knew... it was something stupidly simple like that.  Gah!

It's working perfectly.  Thank you very much.  >_<

Tutorial Collection / [Scripting] Alias to Announce Current Health?
« on: August 27, 2013, 07:42:17 PM »
I'm really irritated that I couldn't figure this out on my own, given the resources available, but... how do I make a script that tells my team mates (or everyone in the room) my current health?  I just can't seem to get Zandronum to read my health, convert the variable into a printable text string.  In other words, I want to be able to press a key on the keyboard and have something like this display to everyone:
Quote
Me: I currently have 82 Life Energy.
How is this done?  I've seen others use it, but I never bothered to ask about it.  I couldn't find anything remotely helpful in my browsing of the web.  It doesn't have to be fancy or anything, though something that changes the health color to reflect how badly I need health would be a nice bonus.

Thanks in advance.

EUREKA!

Perhaps these "hurt" frames aren't new at all. In fact, they might even be from one of the Rockman Pocketstation games that were released for the Complete Works games back in 1999!!!! No wonder some of those sprites look different! The Pocketstation's resolution and overall color (only black and transparent/white) wasn't good enough to fit them entirely or permit more than two shades!
The Japanese are laughing at us right now.

then why the face does this even exist

NOTHING HERE GETS DONE
Now that's not true.  I recall someone requesting a Minecraft Steve? skin one time,  and that got done.  By me!

Though that was more coincidence than intentional...  XD

Stupid question: Did you add your local URL to the custom server filter?  I know I can't see my custom server unless I pop 192.168.x.x (your IP here) or "localhost" into the custom server setting.

Then again, I'm using Internet Doom Explorer...

Also, can other people see your server?  Just because you can't doesn't necessarily mean other people can't... and sometimes vice-versa!

72
Well... it was pretty obvious, all and all.  Though I like FGG's guess of "Antoine from Sonic SatAM".  So much so, in fact, I was tempted to edit the running animation into Antoine just to mess with you guys.  But then things came up and I got busy, so...  XD

I know I said this about the Metall EX skin, but I know at least a couple of you have been waiting for something like this for a while now...

Joseph Skin/Bot (29.10 KB)
(click to show/hide)
Ever had the urge to shoot me in the face with high explosives?  Well now you can!  Given that I can't actually play online like a normal human being (due to my satellite internet), I figured this was the next best thing!  Possibly even better, in fact!  The bot is actually a little more accurate than I am most of the time!

In all seriousness, this was a good four days of work and I'm really pleased with how the skin turned out!  The color palette (aside from the cyan and blue) are authentic NES colors, though I'm sure some of you may have noticed that there's a few colors too many for a strict 8-bit sprite.  The simple explanation is that it's a "layered sprite", like a number of the Mega Man boss characters.  In Joseph's case, he uses an absurdly greedy 3 layers -- 3 colors for his body (black, olive-gold, and dark brown), 3 for his clothing and face (white, what would be blue for his pants, and black), and 3 colors for his outfit overlay (cyan, blue, and black).  I thought about reducing the colors to simulate 2 layers, but after seeing official skins like Ballade and Slashman -- especially Slashman -- I decided not to worry about it after all.

I hope you enjoy this skin and the accompanying bot!

As a sidenote, if there's any problems with overlapping skin name ("Joseph" is pretty generic...) or file names ("JOCO" should be okay...), I can release a patched version that changes the skin name or data file names.

There's already a pretty decent Miles Prower MM8BDM skin floating around the interwebs (possibly two!), so it's not that.  :3

Oh, hey.  Guess what?

New skin coming this Friday.  And I personally think it's of someone a lot of people have been wanting to get into the deathmatch arena...  ;3 (No, it's not Anonyman.)
