Resources / NemZ's tileset emporium
« on: June 04, 2011, 09:56:19 PM »
This thread is a clearinghouse of my custom 8bit tilesets, freely available for anyone's use though mostly made for specific expansion projects.  I'm open to MM8BDM-related requests but I don't promise to accept all of them.

Also check out my tutorial thread.

Check out this guy's vids:  http://www.youtube.com/user/GeminiLaser
Some of the tricks he pulls off with special weapons are real eye-openers.

A much better question is why are people RPing in a FPS rather than just starting an IRQ somewhere.

This should probably go under the suggestions page, but it's relevant here so...
1.  Why doesn't the 'ignore player' settings save a running list rather than having to be set up every time I log on?
2.  Is there an option to just turn off player chat entirely without having to do a player-by-player selection?

That's a HORRIBLE choice of color scheme for Pluto.

Ramp in the middle is far superior, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics.  The steps on the side are also ideal for placing random little powerups.

Ideally slopes will only be used in places where there are currently several tightly-packed stairs without landings or to act as a barrier to ground weapons without making simple walking annoying, such as in the outside section of Napalm Man's stage.  I'm confident that the vast majority of stairs currently in place will stay just as they are.

In order:

Classic holds the flagship position, but I'm starting to think it's about time to put it to bed with an epic finale... maybe go to 12.
X started out awesome but quickly turned to complete bullshit.  If X9 killed off Axel and started leading into the whole elf wars plotline I'd potentially be interested again.
Zero was cool but it's over, so I'd rather they just leave it alone and not risk retroactively screwing things up.
ZX is rather meh.  Really needs to find it's own groove and stop leeching off of the Zero series if it's going to ever amount to anything.
Legends 1 was an interesting experiment but I don't really care about continuing it.
It would take effort for me to care any less about the other spinoffs.

Again, MM8 and MM&B have slopes.  The X, Zero and ZX games have them as well.  This isn't the end of the frickin' world.

What's more, MM8BDM really ISN'T a platformer and every attempt to make it one just destroys a map's flow, so why this bizarre insistence on limiting a level designer's options?

I think it was a great excuse to clean out my closet and dump sets of clothing strategically around the area in the dead of night.

Its bugginess was fixed in whole in MM3GB and Wily Wars. Just throwin' that out there.

I never played either of those so I don't really care.  Being fixed later doesn't help the original NES game either, now does it?

Top spin does suck.  It might be good for certain parts, yes, but there's absolutely no denying that it's a buggy mess.  Why oh why couldn't it just be like Metroid's screw attack?

MM5 was quite enjoyable indeed.  The rush coil variant is a big improvement in control once you get used to it, but the way they screwed up sliding mechanics (can't jump cancel) is a sour note.  The weapons are a mixed bag, and in general aren't worth the time to switch to... but them I'm one of those folks who doesn't use anything but the arm cannon except in especially annoying situations, so I don't really care.

MM8 wasn't good at all, and I mean that as a game in general, not just as part of the series.

My ranking tiers for the classics, main series only:

9
4/5
2/3/10
1/6/7
8

To be honest, I'd like to have just a few slopes in a bunch of stages, but like, keep some stairs around, but you know, that's just me.  :geek:

It's not just you... that what the proposal was about from the beginning.  Nobody has suggested getting rid of all stairs.

Holy crap people, how hard is it to actually read what you're voting on?

Guys, I don't think anyone is suggesting replacing ALL stairs... just some of them, in places where it makes sense to speed things up a bit.
