Help & Editing / Re: Ideas that came to your mind?

When it comes to guidable weapons, it's a neat concept, but there are better ways to handle it. The best example of guidable weapons i've seen in an shooter so far is the RPG from Half Life, which you fire and it then tries to fly towards whatever you're aiming at.

I don't think Magnet Missile should receive a nerf. However, it should probably be slightly harder to get. It's not really its power that's the problem, but how easy it is to get.

For example, remember MM2DW1, with the Power Stone on the other side of Gravity Hold? You could swap Magnet Missile and Power Stone and it would be fairly balanced: A powerful weapon is made harder to reach, and a less powerful weapon is easier to reach. It would at least make it harder to choose which item you shoot for in an open map: Magnet Missile or Gravity Hold.

Edit: As for what has bugged me a lot recently: Knight Crush. It's 75% of the time a OHKO, and the other time it leaves you with barely no hit points left, and if that happens, you're either killed by the rebound, or a second shot made half a second later. I know it's supposed to be a powerful weapon, but at it's current state it decimates mostly everything in mid to short range combat. I would not suggest a damage nerf, since that would reduce its status as a power weapon, but a firing speed reduction could perhaps be in order?

Pharaoh shot is fine. Take in note that charging up a pharaoh shot in combat takes longer than it seems, and uncharged shots aren't really worth their effort.

If you're having trouble with people hugging you to death with it, then maybe you should consider not standing right next to them?

Freezing time is going to be obnoxious. Even using Time Stopper without stopping to refill stops time for less than 10 seconds. I'd say cut the altfire and just have the first part of the weapon, since that's where the interesting stuff is.

Help & Editing / Re: Thought: Touhou Dogfight mod
« on: February 07, 2011, 05:05:19 PM »
So now there's not only skins and a map where you fight touhou bosses, and atleast one weapon in the works, but now you need a game mode as well? Seriously, am I the only one who has grown sick of all the Touhou rampaging through the MM8BDM community as of late?

I will have to vote against this idea, because I for one want to see a limit on this whole mess.

Yeah, if you manage to land straight on top of the thing, you're dead pretty quickly, but if they just run up into your face it doesn't deal too much damage, though catching them off guard and then throwing the thing at them after dealing some damage can be powerful. I speak from personal experience, both as the user and as the victim.

Speaking of which, you mind if you send me all the roll skins you've made for this expansion so we can make bots of them? Or you could even do it yourself if you so prefer.

anyone who signs up gets a user page, and anyone who is a dev should probably have an account for the wikia. We can just link the user pages to the articles. It is something That I havn't ever seen done before, but should work without seeming to clutter up the wiki.

 :D
I fail to see how this would not clutter up the wiki. And making an entirely new page for every random dude who joins seems far too tedious and is definitely not worth it.

I heartily approve of this project. Hell, I was planning on beginning something similar once the Powered Up expansion is done, but hey, go for it.

...care to elaborate? The term "DBZ mode" doesn't ring any bells I'm afraid.

Yeah, most invisible ladders I know of (Crash Man, Flame Man, etc.) is because the wall above the ladder is the same linedef as the ladder itself, and thus share the same properties, which is to elevate people who touch it.

Travis has given up on MMPICE and is now up for grabs to whoever wants to make it.

Edit: Too late! Messatsu grabbed it.

The rooms don't need to look fancy on Invasion. They just need to WORK.
Wrong. Completely utterly wrong.

There's more to making maps and mods than layout and content alone. Assuring that what you're doing actually looks decent can factor into this as much as the above two categories since really, no one wants to play something that looks like pure concentrated pain inject apply directly to eyeballs.

(And hell, this is coming from someone who plays Dwarf Fortress for crying out loud.)

I would like to clarify here that Oilman's stage failed Minimum Quality Expectations because of it's general openness and emptiness, not because of its look. YD at least tried to make a layout, and the stage actually looked pretty neat.

Supermoby's arena, on the other hand, is literally a single texture used both for floor, roof, and walls, in a circular room. In comparison to maps such as this, Oil Man's stage looks a lot more desirable.

I will have to side with YD on the matter here, since you're managing to come off as a bigger hypocrite than what you tried to make YD look like.

Edit: And yes, I have been rather lazy as of late (I blame Steam for making me purchase distracting games), and should have informed YD about this earlier, but he is welcome to have another attempt at Oil Man's stage if he wants.
