When I think of someone "hardcore" player wise, I usually think of people who take the games they play seriously and usually expect some sort of merit of accomplishment upon completing a task. It can be both a good and a bad thing.
Good example of a hardcore player: Locking yourself in your room until you 100% a game, Beating a game with an extreme minimal, Playing through a game a 2nd time under harder conditions fabricated by the player, etc.
Bad example of a hardcore player: Trying to be better than everyone else and acting like "SUPER KOOL DUDE WIF DA GUNZ"
