Help & Editing / Where can I find the ingame music using SlumpEd?
« on: April 01, 2011, 08:22:47 PM »
I need to know where in the pk3 is the music used for the game. I want to find the final boss's music to use for Roboenza. I know what the code is, but I do not know if I have to find a music lump and replace NOHOPE in the Roboenza wad with that lump, or if just replacing .ogg with the name of the music will work (likely not).

Sorry if it sounds difficult to understand, I'm not quite sure how to put it into words. Also, do not ask me to search (couldn't find my answer), or rip the music (pointless when I can just get it in MM8BDM itself).

EDIT: Nvm, I found out it was a wad file. I don't need help now.

W.I.P Forum / MM8BDM Death Races
« on: February 12, 2011, 07:11:15 AM »
How many of you played F-Zero X for the N64? If you did, you should remember a mode called Death Race, where you had to retire all of your rivals on a short track. The game wouldn't end until everyone or you were destroyed.

I'm bringing in my own version of this mode to MM8BDM in the form of a race involving the Wavebikes (since they are the only kind of transportation besides the Rush Jet). Since I figured doing an actual race mode for Doom might be challenging to do, a mode that would suit Deathmatch and Last Man Standing would be much more attainable.

What makes this map pack stand out from the others is the fact the courses are designed to be race tracks, and the wavebikes are your machines. I even did a quick texture of my own for a finish line (though it shows up too brightly ingame...wonder how I'll fix that). I have some pictures of a test track of mine, but the track itself no longer exists. These will be replaced when Cut Man Castle is finished.

I had a lot to say for what is my first project, but the important stuff is out of the way. I'll have some questions at the end of this post asking the community about their opinions on some topics I want to discuss.

One issue that might come up is this: How will players find each other? The answer is patience, but most maps will have shortcuts to help players catch up with one another. Also, the maps will be made as such so you can go both forwards and backwards.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to ask. Also, if you guys wouldn't mind, could I get some opinions on some topics I'm curious about?

MM8BDM Discussion / MM8BDM Hamachi Networks
« on: January 15, 2011, 06:54:35 PM »
For those that don't know what Hamachi is, it basically gives you an alternate IP that you can use instead of your computer's IP. For some people whose IP is unstable or somehow can't be used for others to connect to them, having this alternate IP may solve the problem. I cannot host with my regular IP, but I've been able to do many netgames using a Hamachi IP, including host a MM8BDM server with my friends. I do not know if ports are still an issue, but it has worked for me most of the time no matter what the port number was. Let me know if you guys run into any problems using Hamachi.

Allow me to explain how this works: You can choose to create your own network, or join an existing one. Any people that are in the same servers can use each other's Hamachi IP. For example, say we have three people: A, B, and C. We also have two running networks at the moment. A is in the first network, B is in the second network, and C is in both. By using Hamachi IPs, if A hosts a server, C can join it fine since A and C are in the same network. However, B cannot join it since A and B are not in the same network. With a certain limit of people per server (16 including the owner) for the free version, the only problem is we might have to create multiple networks, but that is very easy for everyone to do. Also, sometimes you might get an error starting up Hamachi. Just keep running the program, and you'll eventually get it going.

However, I bring this program to the discussion because I think many more people could run their own servers AND people will be able to join them, than with just Doomseeker alone. Hamachi is an entirely different program, so it will not work with Doomseeker. All Hamachi does is enable people to use alternate IPs which may help solve hosting problems.

For those that want to check the program out, here's the download link from their main website: https://secure.logmein.com/US/products/ ... nload.aspx (I use unmanaged, but it's up to you)

With that said, the purpose of this topic is to advertise Hamachi networks and/or MM8BDM servers that require Hamachi IPs to join and to let people know if a server has to go down for some reason (if possible). Here's a template to help you advertise your server(s):

Code: [Select]
Name of Server:
Gamemode(s) Your Server Hosts:
Country You Are In:
Estimated Time Range Your Server is Up:
Max Amount of People That Can Enter the Server:
Wads Used in the Server:
Hamachi Networks You Are In:
Hamachi IP:

And here's a template to advertise your Hamachi Network(s):

Code: [Select]
Name of Network:
Password [if required]:
Number of Current Members:

Here are some example templates:

Name of Server: Unofficial Deathmatch Server
Gamemode(s) Your Server Hosts: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch
Country You Are In: United Kingdom
Estimated Time Range Your Server is Up: 12 PM to 10 PM CST Monday-Friday, 12 PM to 12 AM CST Saturday and Sunday.
Max Amount of People That Can Enter the Server: 20
Wads Used in the Server: None
Hamachi Networks You Are In: Unofficial MM8BDM Network
Hamachi IP: 5.123.456.789

For my example network template, I'll use the one I have created to start us off:

Name of Network: TailsMK4's MM8BDM Hamachi Network
Password [if required]:
Number of Current Members: 1

I will edit this post to include any advertised servers or networks. Hope this helps you guys out with your hosting problems. Btw, I asked CutmanMike for permission to post this topic, and he gave the ok.

I will start running my server once I see interest for the idea start to build up.

Help & Editing / Using Music Packs
« on: December 10, 2010, 06:46:48 PM »
I have had the MM9-MM10 music pack for a while, yet the music refuses to play in the server it's used in, saying the music is not found. Is there any way to "add" the pack when using Doomseeker so the music will play when one of the custom songs is called? I might just use the launcher and add them there, but is there a way to do it via Doomseeker?

MM8BDM Discussion / Camping
« on: November 06, 2010, 04:11:06 AM »
This community seems pretty laidback, so I think some good discussions could be made...

I have seen many people criticize those that camp, mainly those in another Doom mod, yet I believe the majority of the people I see do this. I believe camping has its advantages, but it's hard to find good places to use this effectively. I'm just wondering what people think of camping, and whether or not to discourage the use of it or not.

I'm sure everyone knows what it is, but camping is basically staying in one particular spot all of the time, even if the person is not standing still. I'm not asking if camping is a good technique; I'm just wondering what people think of the action.

Anything Goes / Just flying in and saying hi.
« on: October 17, 2010, 05:45:28 AM »
Some of you have met me before. I'm TailsMK4 online, usually in the CTF servers. I'm that Gyro Man lookalike (but not for long). Anyway, just want to say that I have been really impressed with this game, so I'm definitely going to continue playing online (and recording some more matches as well). As such, I continue to wish Cutmanmike and the other developers the best of luck with future updates. What I really love about this game is the balance. The only thing that separates you from other players is the ability to use the game's many weapons, instead of also having to deal with character strengths and weaknesses in the other Doom mod I played.

You will see me online a lot, so don't hold back just because I'm still new.

The only thing that will change next time I'm on, though, is the fact someone named Blues did an actual Tails skin, so I'm going to change to that in a bit.

Are any of you familiar with a game called Mushroom Kingdom Fusion? It does have an entire world dedicated to Mega Man if you wanted to know that. Anyway, I chose Gyro Man because Tails's Mega Man Suit is Gyro Man. I originally chose Bass before, as well.

I think that's it, I'll be looking forward to some more great matches online!

EDIT: Oh yeah, quick question. How do you switch the position of the energy bars in this game? I still have it at default.
