MM8BDM Discussion / Re: MM8BDM: Top Players Tournament. FINSHED
« on: January 06, 2011, 08:04:42 AM »
Honestly, it's time to give up on the idea. Not all of the "best" players are available all of the time. These servers could be put to better use by offering more modes for everyone, such as CTF or Possession...even Instagib, probably.

Honestly, I have no desires to be "elitist". I have always seen some of the "best" players make excuses on why they got killed. Sometimes I say lag myself because the screen froze for a second. But otherwise, I take everything as is and try to understand what happened...and to avoid making the same mistakes again, if possible. I've been focusing for a while now, and it has allowed me to get some frags against even those that call themselves the "best". Otherwise, it's due to practicing and practicing.

And finally, I agree with Kapus with the fact that people should teach newer people about the environment. I do that all of the time with my friends.

Eh, I help others all the time, so I really don't have a need for this. Besides, I doubt I'll be able to actually "teach" because more players will come anyway, so it's pretty much tips here and there. As for me, I'm still growing myself learning the ways of the "Yamato", literally.

Skins & Bots etc / Re: Kapus' Skins (LATEST: Chao!)

I looked at the Chao in the screenshot...it just looked really big. I'll be taking a look now, though, since I'm trying to get rid of skins I don't like.

Is it just me or is the Chao giant in size? It looked to me it was even bigger than Sonic in MM8BDM (though not as big as Tails).

I also see some of these "good" players as being very impatient. I do not type long sentences when chatting, and yet some (like Teh Player) cannot wait a few seconds for me to finish and start shooting. I'm purposely avoiding servers that have people I dislike, and that list is growing. I'm now at the point where I will leave a server if someone I dislike joins.

MM8BDM is becoming less fun now, and I might be better off just inviting some of my Skype friends to a server on Hamachi. And if your response is "deal with it", then you have no idea what I'm going through. I'm already tired of this talk, and there have also been some insults going on. If you really want to play competitively, then invite players that fight competitively. Some of you have your own servers, you know. Just don't try to turn "friendly" competitions into "serious" competition. In fact, I would support a decision to ban tournaments whose true purpose is to "find good players". With that said, I'm going to remove myself from Randemz's tournament.

MM8BDM is supposed to be a game for fans to enjoy. I'm sure that was the original purpose that CutmanMike had in mind. We're going away from that.

One thing that we can do is not host any new maps (or else make the servers private). Michael's server has been out of reach for me since I do not have these "New Maps"...and Messatsu's maps aren't very good.

Mostly I get along with people, but a couple have insulted me (mrjnumber1 and Ashley), so I generally tend to avoid games with them in it.

The prime list, though, is this:

Current Agents
King Yamato
Tails (or Miku)
Knux
Sonix
Orange Juice
Bluebrawl
Sonianature
Rose
Blaze
Patchouli Knowledge (I prefer to call him Dark, though)
Brawlman9876
Muzaru

I'll update this list if I forget anyone.

I am starting to think we're taking it a bit too far. Being competitive in this game...isn't really that much fun. I think we should just let this die down and let people keep to themselves their opinions of who the best are.

Actually, count me out for Duel. I prefer LMS over Duel.

I'd say 32 is fine. 4-5 battles is a perfect number to really separate the good players from the "lucky" players.

Aww man, I shouldn't have watched Toy Story so soon...I wish I was told about this beforehand. I hope somebody will let me know next time there's a tournament. :/

Oh well, I'll put my info in anyway, but I doubt I'll get in this time:

Player Name: TailsMK4

Times Available: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 PM to 4 PM and from 11 PM to 12 AM, Tuesday and Thursday from 1 PM to 12 AM, and Saturday and Sunday from 1 PM to 3 PM and from 11 PM to 12 AM. This is generally how my week goes in terms of work. This will change on the week of the 16th, though, as college will be back in session.

Contact: I don't check my email, but I can be contacted on Skype (MetalKirby5042), or through a PM here at Cutstuff.

As for a 1v1 LMS, that doesn't seem like a good measure since it only requires one death for the round to end.

Note the key word, there: round. There is usually at least three rounds (though can be changed). In Duel, the player that does the first kill is at an advantage, since the other player must grab the weapons he/she lost, while the other player can focus on healing up. In LMS, once someone is killed, the match starts over with new weapons and full health. Plus, you don't have to deal with any subweapons, such as Rush Jet or Bass Buster. Believe me, I have been in Duel many times, and I find LMS much more enjoyable.

Ok, seriously, who is willing to actually change every one of the maps so it's suitable for tournament play? Besides, if they're 1 on 1, it matters not, since trying to avoid people only delays the matches. Even then, I do agree some maps should be omitted. Not all maps will be played at once any way, unless we got a lot of matches. A few off the top of my head:

Centaur Man
Quick Man
Gyro Man
Crystal Man

Basically, if there are any hazards that might stop players from quickly reaching each other, it should be omitted. Elec Man is fine, because the only hazards are in rarely travelled hallways, anyway.

I don't think Duel is a good idea because it can also depend on luck. Who will be the first to reach the weapon that will decide the match? *coughtimestoppercough*

I prefer a 1 on 1 LMS, which forces players to consider what choices they get with the weapons they are provided, plus it puts weapons like Gravity Hold out of the equation.
