Projects & Creative / Re: Mr. X's Custom Content - Sonic Music OUT
« on: December 12, 2010, 06:18:31 PM »
Yeah, music packs can get popular too quickly, which is why I only had a few songs selected, since you already chose my favorites from the classic games (Marble Zone is good as well, but didn't request it since you said Sonic 1 songs would be in). I won't make any requests for the Adventure music since my favorites are usually fan favorites anyway.

And no, I won't be hurt if Believe in Me isn't in. I just wonder if that song even fits in DM. E.G.G.M.A.N., however, as seen in another pack, is a song that is much better suited for DM.

Well, since you're looking for requests...

Sonic 2:

Chemical Factory and maybe Emerald Hill...that's about it. I didn't care for most of Sonic 2's music, but Emerald Hill, Chemical Factory, Mystic Cave, and Oil Ocean were nice songs. I do hope Wing Fortress is not in. I'll be fine with any other song except the Special Stage song, though.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles:

Lava Reef Act 1 (Hydrocity and Flying Battery were my other top two favorites, just this one was missing)

Otherwise, you and I have similar tastes in music, although Living in the City sounded nice with the lyrics.

Skins & Bots etc / Re: Official Request Thread

Eh, I'll toss in a request as well, even though I'm fine with Tails. We got Sonic and Tails, but I don't see Knuckles anywhere (someone told me he saw a Knuckles skin, but he didn't know where). Seeing as we have two different styles of graphics (Sonic is 8-Bit while Tails is...32-bit or whatever the Advance sprites are like), it doesn't matter to me how Knuckles is skinned.

Help & Editing / Using Music Packs
« on: December 10, 2010, 06:46:48 PM »
I have had the MM9-MM10 music pack for a while, yet the music refuses to play in the server it's used in, saying the music is not found. Is there any way to "add" the pack when using Doomseeker so the music will play when one of the custom songs is called? I might just use the launcher and add them there, but is there a way to do it via Doomseeker?

No, it happened before you got there.  When I started up the server, I allowed people to pick their own teams (it was InstaGib Team Last Man Standing for those who didn't know).  Within 3 matches, it had become 5 vs 1 with more people continuing to join the winning team.

Must have been up longer than I thought, because I remember doing only 2 vs 1 for most of my matches, and I was the 1. Had a really good time. But yeah, I guess use Auto-Select or have people speak up about the unbalance (preferred).

I always join the team that is performing poorer than the other team, which is why I dislike Auto-Select. I do see people switching sides from time to time, though, which does annoy me at times. The teams with more members that win deserve less glory than teams that win with fewer members, imo. Still, if Auto-Select is used, be prepared for some lopsided matches.

Btw, I was on X's server at the time, but the fact he enabled Auto-Select was out of the blue for me. I remember waiting until one LMS Instafig match was almost over before joining the losing team (which someone then disconnected on that team, putting each team back to two members each). After that match ended, Mr. X announced that we did not deserve to pick our own teams...did that include me? It was strange hearing that at the time.

Tails, as much as I appreciate your addition, please try to keep it like a Journal-journal, like you're truly there and not part of a game.

Fixed the ending of the entry to make it sound more natural.

This virus is much stronger than we expected...not only does Roboenza infect robots, it also effects humans and animals! Nothing is safe from Roboenza...

My experience with fighting infected robots has enabled me to survive at least 50% of the outbreaks. Now I pass my own knowledge to anyone that comes across this entry.

1. Despite the fact hiding is discouraged, I have found that hiding some of the time may actually increase your chances of survival. There is no true safe spot, though, as I have seen some rather clever hiding spots get sniffed out by the infected robots. However, if you stop from time to time when you're not being chased, you can often look at your surroundings and see if a better course of action can be taken. I often stop at corners of two hallways and just take a breath or two while I look around. Once you spot an infected robot, the other path is safe most of the time. Some robots are smarter than others, though...

2. Try not to fight infected robots unless you have a fast weapon. Focusing on one robot might distract you from others nearby, and do not get so focused that your target gets close enough to infect you. It's better to flee and fight another time than to fall prey.

3. If you're the only one left, DO NOT fight. There may simply be too many robots to try to take out. A good way to know just how big of a force you are dealing with is to see how many opponents are left. If the dreaded infection song plays, everyone else still alive is infected. If it is more than 2 opponents, you will get infected if you try to fight.

4. If you can, avoid drawing attention to infected robots, especially if you're hiding. Also make sure that ANY hiding place you use has at least one other escape route. The last thing you want is to get swarmed with no escape. I pity the fools that try to stand against the onslaught of infected robots at Crash Man and Gemini Man.

5. There are some situations where your best course of action is to eliminate the infected robots quickly. Cut Man, Flash Man, and Hard Man come to mind. Best combined with hint 2. If too many people get infected, not even Charge Kick will save you, as it is nearly impossible to outsmart a smart infected robot.

6. The most effective weapon you have against infected robots is the teleporter. Stay a good distance away from the infected robot, but follow it and hop in the teleporter after it to instantly kill it. As long as the robot is not aware you are there, it should not be a trap. Use caution, though. If you think you might be attacked, have Skull Barrier ready. It is your best defense against infected robots, and it may help you escape their traps.

I hope these tips will help players to better deal with infected robots. If one wants all of the above points shortened to one idea, it is this: If you have an option to either fight or flee, flee. Of course, dodging robots would be very easy if I could regain my ability to fly...

Upon finishing that last sentence, I hear robots shouting of joy. I wonder if that means this area I am in is free of infected robots? I leave this note behind and go check things out...

Well, I'm making this suggestion since it was from MM7...

Will there be a "secret" song in Shade Man's stage, like in Star Man's stage? There was a GnG music piece that could be activated via a code when Shade Man is highlighted.

When the infected robot suicides as soon as it gets infected. I think someone even used a bind kill command once...

I should do that more often...sometimes people just hang around me while one or two people try to get our flag back against like five or six others from the opposite team...

I usually play as a kind of berserker, going after the flag while 2 or 3 people try to shoot me down. Some...maybe "most" of the time I escape. If someone else has the flag, either I try to find the person and protect/kill the flagholder, or I'll run to the base that person is going to and act accordingly. Sometimes I also explore, especially if a teammate has the flag. Lately though I have been more aggressive, so kills will come no matter what resistance I face. It's so easy to kill people with Knight Crush.

MM8BDM Discussion / Camping
« on: November 06, 2010, 04:11:06 AM »
This community seems pretty laidback, so I think some good discussions could be made...

I have seen many people criticize those that camp, mainly those in another Doom mod, yet I believe the majority of the people I see do this. I believe camping has its advantages, but it's hard to find good places to use this effectively. I'm just wondering what people think of camping, and whether or not to discourage the use of it or not.

I'm sure everyone knows what it is, but camping is basically staying in one particular spot all of the time, even if the person is not standing still. I'm not asking if camping is a good technique; I'm just wondering what people think of the action.

I would have to say the one time I got like 10 kills or something in Wily Castle 1 on one round of Blizzard Attack. That was fun.
