MM8BDM Discussion / Re: MM8BDM: DUEL TOURNAMENT - FEBRUARY 2011

Well, once again, I have yet to get a reply from Sawnik/Devil and have yet to come across him on the servers. I'll ring him up again, but if he doesn't come back, I will assert my right to claim victory by default. I don't want to, but the tournament must go on.

I am trying to get my match in. I haven't seen Devil around on the servers, though someone said he was on, and he hasn't PM'ed me back about our match. I ask again: How long does he have before he defaults?

Think of it like this: you round up students or kids in a classroom or a playground. Before you leave for a while, you give a list of "Don't"s, but none of "Do"s. What is the most likely outcome? What will they do? The logical pick is that they will do thing they are told NOT to. And know what? This applies to virtually anyone!

Does that excuse them from discipline for doing what they were instructed not to do? That does not. Ignorance may be bliss, but it is no excuse for disobedience.

And I do recall that Messatsu did make a "do" rule: "Be respectful to other players." So that alone breaks your "no 'do's" scenario argument. Just because you beat all the hay out of a straw man doesn't mean you've won the fight.

As for the power of suggestion, it's called the "Ignore" button, aka the personal STFU button.

Suggestion: Why don't we stop the later-round matches and focus on this round? I know Firestorm wants the tournament run as fast as good competition will allow, but we already have one semifinalist while there are second-round matches (like mine) still yet to be determined.

And to Firestorm, how long does Devil have before I may claim default? I PMed him a week or so ago and he has yet to reply to schedule our match.

I think the rule will be this:

Trees and other areas of the like are okay if the two conditions are met:

1.) A zombie CAN climb to where you are.
2.) It is not over a pit.

Granted I still think climbing those trees and towers in crystal man's stage is lame as hell and spits in the face of the spirit of the mode, but whatever, gotta draw the line somewhere.

How's that?

So would the Bubble Man spike tower fall under allowed or not allowed? Although it is possible for a zombie to reach the platform, the chances of doing so are very slim when the living get a rapid-fire weapon and/or Star Crash. And there is only one side of the tower that will allow the zombie to fly backwards or climb onto. Even then, they still must clear the spikes and the pit. Does that meet both conditions?

Streaks of me being alpha only happens When # of players <=6 (Less or equal to 6). That aside, the frequency is roughly 1 every 20 rounds. I can't tell accurately who's the second "rage spectator" because I'm really bad with names, but I tell you he or she is usually around the late night, 13 AM according to Greenwich Mean Time.

And Roboenza is apparently the second or third popular, which means that is the third or second LEAST popular as well. The two most popular have been DeathMatch/Last Man Standing and Team Last Man Standing/Capture the Flag  (Last I checked, which was today around midday and yesterday around midnight).

And lately I've been disappointed greatly at the players in Roboenza Mode. When they don't sit still and talk more than they play, they risk too much getting close to infects and defeat is at range. One day I saw the quickest infection in Cutman map: Everyone infected in less than one minute.

It is like: You barely play this mode and comment on me. Or think I'm the problem when you are the problem. Start being more tactical, find camping sites, increase distance from infects, talk less and play more.

Another rule he should add:
The Servers are not Chatrooms. Feels like chatting? Go to IRC, but don't idle around to chat.

I won't deny, I DO chat, but I'm slightly more aware of surroundings than the other players I've seen around.

Your last statement of paragraph one only confirms you are the lone culprit. As does the fourth paragraph. Again, if you are going to accuse someone of being as big of a problem as you, find out one of their usernames and bring it forth.

And it seems very hypocritical that you would want to add a restrictive rule. If you get to do whatever the hell you want, it's only just that we should get to do the same, too. If you want to defy the host's rules, don't be pushing to add to them. Again, what's the point of the rules if they will bend for someone like you?

There is a possibility that either OJ had not visited the boards when he told you that no rules were written or he told you prior to him putting them up. It was all Messatsu's idea; OJ had no part.

And maybe establishing rules about exploiting design and function flaws is part of getting after the lag problem. You don't know because I doubt you have talked to Messatsu about any of this and have instead chosen to publicly whine about his methods. If you want to know why, ask him yourself.

Oh, and before I forget, your impersonation of Messatsu earlier today sucked. First, I doubt he downloads porn while hosting. Second, he lets everyone on the server know he's on. He doesn't go by <Server>. In fact, no host does. The alias he uses is Messatsu (the Lagless). Third, I have never seen his ping at 81 as a host. Even if he was doing something or downloading something (not porn) as a host, it wouldn't spike anywhere close to 81. Ping doesn't multiply by 8 anytime except for mistaken spikes or when the server is crashing. If you're going to impersonate the host, do it right.

I still appeal to the 1/100 clause. in other words, one or two with said habit makes no difference. If u mad, deal with it.

I'd submit my tweaked Roboenza Mode (missing only ACS tweaks, for the compiler hates me), but I don't want Cutmanmike to day I didn't have his permission to edit.

OBJECTION!

One or two with that habit makes quite a difference, actually. Especially since, from my own memory, you become the alpha zombie quite often when you're on. You even frequently become alpha zombie in streaks and runs with only two or three breaks in them. Plus, I cannot think of anyone else with this same habit as you. It's funny you try to drag a nameless other player into this saying they do the same thing as you. If you're going to say "one or two," then back it up and give us names. Otherwise, I see you as the only reason Messatsu had to make rules for his Roboenza server, which is the most popular of all the servers on MM8BDM.

Here's a thought. Let's say 1 in every 100 people who committed murder were let free despite their obvious guilt. Consider how many murders there are annually. Even dividing that by 100 still gives a horridly huge number. And again, not even 5 Deathwind servers can hold 100 people if Messatsu can even run 5 at one time.

If the rules will bend for one person without good reason, then they will have to bend for everyone for every reason. There would be no point to the rules. There would be no point to this topic. There would be no point to order.

No one is telling you "kiss my ass, follow the rules." We are telling you to stop shoving your own cheeks onto our lips because we won't pucker up.

Seriously, what's the matter if only one or two goes against? It is only me and this other user that doesn't like playing infect. While I end it right away, he makes it even more boring, by running around and hiding completly out of reach.

You are reaching a paranoic level with this, and I'm really starting to dislike you for this.

Paranoid, is he? I am a witness to your copping out on the Roboenza servers. You get infected first and either join the spectators, jump into the nearest death trap or let everyone eat at your health until you die. If you will not try to infect as the first zombie or infect as a tagged zombie, then Roboenza isn't for you, especially not on Deathwind servers. By try, I mean to attempt to infect as many opponents as possible without dying, to actively pursue healthy players and try to avoid damage and instant death by traps and/or telefragging. Skill shouldn't matter. I don't want to be a zombie, either, but I'm not going to just die because of it. That deprives me of the challenge and the other players of a round.

With that dissection, objection overruled. Try to think before you make accusations, Mr. Zero.

Okay, so I got my map in. I only used the spikes as a discouragement for going for the instant-death weapon.

You mean to tell me that I only ask for one little thing and you pull this entire spiel when you could have just either answered me straight or told me to look up the Wiki or both? The quote only shows that you knew of how to resolve this but chose not to. I understand where you are coming from, but you just didn't care when you ran me in circles when I stated, clearly and repetitively, that the method you gave me didn't work. You could have at that point pointed me to the Wiki and dropped it. Standout modder or not, especially as a standout modder, you knew better and chose not to do better. Again, next time, I'll wait for someone else's answer.

Nevermind about my second question. I figured it out thanks to a message from Yellow Devil in game despite the others' attempts to bury it in useless information.
Of course, renaming .pk3 to .zip then extracting the maps you need. Then open them in Doom Builder. It's so complicated that you must throw a hissy fit and complain that I'm not spoonfeeding you how exactly to make "spikes work".

Doom, all I wanted was the answer to one question from someone, not something. It wasn't like I was asking you how to make an entire map. I needed to know how to make one function work. Instead, you chose to give me the runaround even after I told you at least twice your method led me to a dead end. Yellow Devil, on the other hand, just gave me "115" and I figured it out after I still couldn't get a simple reply. If you can't answer a question directly, you don't know the answer. I'm tempted to call you out on unsportsmanlike behavior since you have an entry, but that would take more time than there is left in this contest and wouldn't be worth the trouble. Understand that I am still new to map making and the only map-based informational topic I could dig anything I needed out of was CutmanMike's beginner course. I found nothing else, so I asked and ended up right back where I started.

Had you not answered at all, I would have been content to wait for Mike. I only asked you further because you gave an answer that I needed clarification for and you ended up giving me crap and dragging said crap into the boards. Next time, I'll wait for someone who will be straightforward.

And where would I find the official maps to look up in Doom Seeker? I can't find them anywhere in my documents or downloads.

By the way, if you're either lazy or don't know how to make spikes deadly, you could have just said so or not said anything. You didn't have to give me the same answer everyone else has handed me.

1) Are spikes allowed?

2) If they are, how do I make them deadly?
