MM8BDM Discussion / Re: The 8-Bit Megalympic Games!
« on: June 06, 2011, 06:38:27 PM »
In one particular event, say Deathmatch, I divide up the players into groups where they will fight one player from every other team. A heat is one of those groups. The best players out of all the heats, if I format it to do so, will advance to a final match in which the top players out of that earn points for their team. A heat is a qualifying contest to narrow down the field to a final match. Like in the 100 meter dash at the Olympics where they hold two preliminary races, take the top 4 in each heat and pit the final 8 against each other for the medals.

Rawk: Good point. I'll note that and lower the max to 100.

As for question 2, strafe running is not an exploit since it merely combines two controls. Leaf cancel, SakuJet, Gemini Mirror Buster, using stage design faults such as invisible ladders and standing on Hotheads are considered exploits as well as other weapon and stage maneuvers not intended to be part of the game and will result in immediate ejection upon spotting.

rtist: 1) Unless the teams wish to come up with their own names, yes. In-game, they will be Light, Wily, Cossack and X.

2) I don't expect 32 turnouts, so I will allow any number of players to join. Again, I will gather all entrants into one big pool and randomly distribute them into the teams.

3) Each event will play out in heats. I may or may not decide to make those qualifiers for one big final that will count for more points than the heats. I have put up a poll for entrants to give input.

MM8BDM Discussion / The 8-Bit Megalympic Games! (Should we go on?)
« on: June 06, 2011, 05:05:39 PM »
Greetings, Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch players! I, Prosecutor Godot, invite all of you to join in this summer for the first-ever 8-Bit Megalympic Games, a series of contests played on 8-Bit Deathmatch servers to determine the best of the four teams who enter this contest.

Current team standings:

Dr. Wily Team: 13
Dr. Light Team: 10
Mr. X Team: 7
Dr. Cossack Team: 4

The rules for servers go as follows:

I will be fair in all findings regarding violations. Barring the administrators, my decision is final. As for the rules of the individual contests, I don't want to take up all this space to explain those, so I will list those off as we get to those events. Below is a list of  events for the Games:

Teams:

Current event: Team Last Man Standing

Matchups:

Dr. Wily Team vs Dr. Cossack Team

Dr. Light Team vs Mr. X Team

It seems the voting MM8BDM public is quite torn about it. Maybe a few people will come along with the deciding votes in the next 3 days.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Savior's Challenges to YOU!!!
« on: May 05, 2011, 10:52:14 PM »
How about this?

Never Lost a Case
Mode: Duel
Flags: No autoaim, minimum 5 frags
Other notes: The challenger must defeat every player in the server cycle without losing. The minimum number of players for this challenge is 8, meaning the challenger must fight at least 7 duels and win all of them before cycling back to his/her first opponent. Video proof may be used, witness testimony may be accepted provided it is detailed and confirmed by other witnesses.
Maps: This may be left to the discretion of the players, though the best maps are small ones like Tomahawk Man better suited for duels. Definitely no Gyro, Wave, Shadow or any pit-/spike-heavy stages. Something like Heat Man or Top Man is okay but not some of the remixed maps like Needle X or Stone X.

Favorite from each game:

MM1: Thunder Beam
MM2: Metal Blade
MM3: Gemini Laser
MM4: Dust Crusher
MM5: Gyro Attack
MM6: I haven't beat any of the RMs, so I don't know...
MM7: Freeze Cracker
MM8: Flash Bomb
MM&B: Remote Mine
MM9: Laser Trident
MM10: Rebound Striker

Least favorite from each game:

MM1: Hyper Bomb
MM2: Bubble Lead
MM3: Top Spin
MM4: Skull Barrier
MM5: Gravity Hold
MM6: Again, I don't know. I never beat any RMs in 6.
MM7: Scorch Wheel
MM8: Water Balloon
MM&B: Ice Wall
MM9: Concrete Shot
MM10: Thunder Wool

Best of the Classic series: Rebound Striker (love having the Giant Bouncing Ball of Destruction in my arsenal)
Worst of the Classic Series: Thunder Wool (this weapon is so damn difficult to aim and I would rather that Capcom recycled Thunder Beam, Thunder Bolt or even Plug Ball rather than combining wool and electricity to give birth to the most useless weapon ever. At least it isn't the weakness of Wily Capsule 10.)

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Favorite Robot Master Set?
« on: May 01, 2011, 02:41:26 PM »
My top 3 sets are MM10, MM9 and MM2. You get a little of everything in each set, and the MM2 bosses are in there since they were designed specifically for combat and are all kickass (except for Woodman, who is incredible). The MM5 masters were also combat-built, but for that bunch, only Napalmman and Gravityman have much use, and even then, it's not very fun to fight when they're easy buster-only. Plus, the sets out of my picks are fun to fight against and a good challenge if you want to try to win buster only. Though Crashman does drag on...

I could ask Mike about the medals, but again, there have been too many tournaments lately. I'll wait until things settle down in that aspect before this gets going. I'll sort out just what will go down in the meantime.

It seems the people have spoken, though. The Megalympics are a definite go, just not a definite as to when. Maybe in a couple of weeks or so.

I've had as much tournament madness as I can handle for now. I'll wait until March through May Madness dies down before I start up the Summer Megalympics.
