Skins & Bots etc / Re: List of Skins
« on: November 05, 2010, 12:14:51 AM »
Well, wouldn't it be easier if I just posted a zip of every one I could find and let people tell me they wanted theirs taken off as needed?  I mean, on the one side you'd have people who'd downloaded the zip before I'd taken their skin down, but I'd only put on skins that were already linked on the forum to begin with, so it shouldn't be much of a problem I'd say.

I really just think a thread like that, stickied, maybe even on the main MM8BDM forum, would be nice to allow the greatest number of people possible to be able to view everyone's custom skins.  Of course, *not* downloading them may keep the spirit of the game more intact as everyone with them would look like Mega Man and still fit in the game, but I still think it'd be a good thing to do..

Sooooo I really think a zip of every one of these would be cool, plus maybe some of the non-Megaman ones I know people use often like Kirby, would be nice, just to be able to see everyone who's using any of them online at any given time.  I mean, since you can hardly see yourself in-game anyway except like on the player setup screen I think the main point of using a custom is if others have it to see you.

I could do it myself if you wanted.  Of course, I dunno if I'd need permissions or if them being put up on this forum in general is "permission" enough for that; plus, as far as I can tell the way Doom handles lots of skins it'd make it kinda hard to navigate through them all if you had too many... but I do like the way that the official skins or at least the ones programmed into the game rather than put into the skins folder come "first" in the list, so that wouldn't be messed up even if you had loads.

- Already mentioned but not flat-out stated, and probably the most obvious, but I didn't know about it for a looooong time for some reason, using Metal Blade on Metal Man when you fight him in the teleport room kills him in one hit

 - Many bosses in MM2 have a variety of weaknesses, though there's still technically a "pattern", although in that pattern Flash Man would fall to the Crash Bomb whereas the Metal Blade does equal damage and is far easier to use, and even Bubble Lead is great against him.  Likewise, Wood Man would fall to Atomic Fire though he's also easy with Metal Blades, and Crash Bomb actually can hurt him through his shield.

 - In Mega Man 3, pausing when a large enemy's on the screen will make all the ANIMATED parts of them disappear, but not the static parts.  By far the freakiest when used on the cats in Top Man's stage.

 - Speaking of Top Man, not only is his design in general just really strange, but think about how pretty much every Robot Master, no matter how weird, has a stage that fits them well enough, if not to a T.  Now realize that TOP MAN'S STAGE is a giant greenhouse full of massive cats and bulldozers.  Likewise, Shadow Man, a ninja RM, has a stage consisting of some underground lava-filled facility.  These are facts from the first time you play MM3, but some people don't really sit to think about it and really realize how weird it is 'till much later.

 - Like the MM7 Freeze Man trick listed above, MANY Robot Masters (if not all, though I can only think of this one other definite example) will heal and/or otherwise "power up" from their own weapon or a specific other weapon.  The one example I never forget is Spring Man powering up and developing a magnetic shield if you use Thunder Bolt on him.

 - Probably obvious to most people, but if you hold B and press Start on Shade Man's stage in MM7 before you kill him (also works on the FC version), you're treated to a remix of the Ghouls n' Ghosts / Ghosts n' Goblins main theme.

 - Again in MM7, there are one-in-the-game-each hidden items in many places you can only find with Rush Search, such as a giant weapon capsule in Spring Man's stage, and a giant energy capsule in Turbo Man's stage.  There's actually a way to get that super expensive Super Adaptor fist range/homing powerup without paying a single bolt if you dig in a certain spot in Turbo Man's stage.  Also, if you dig underneath the large opened container on the very left of the beginning of Junk Man's stage Rush will sometimes dig up a Game Boy.

 - Yet AGAIN in MM7, there's a strange number given at the very end of the credits after you finish the game, presenting itself as if it's some kind of code or serial number for the game.  In fact, if you put it in as a password, you'll unlock a little Street Fighter minigame for 2 players in which you can play as Mega Man or Bass (Why not Proto Man too?)

 - Many of the small dolls in Clown Man's stage in MM8 are scaled down sprites of MM7 enemies.

 - In Frost Walrus' stage in MMX4, there are frozen images of Blizzard Buffalo, Chill Penguin, etc in the background.

There's a million more, and a lot of people probably know most these, but I just got on a roll...

As for me?  I had no idea you could blow up Drill Bombs prematurely which is actually the best way to defeat one of the Wily Machine forms in MM4, until very recently.  I also had no idea that charged up Mega Buster shots actually stopped Toad Man's Rain Flush just like the Drill Bombs do; for that reason I usually started with Bright Man or Dust Man.  I found both out my last time playing through MM4, which was, like, the 10th time lol.

You found a normal deathmatch server?

Yeah, every night there's one or two normal deathmatch servers with at least 4-5 people in them, sometimes more.  But there's always that one Roboenza one with something like 15-20 people, and usually like a european or something alternate Roboenza server with a few.  And a lot of empty servers.

I actually think Roboenza's great, but I have a feeling I'd like team LMS or something more, or even team deathmatch, it's just in Roboenza it's like most the time you either win on the first zombie which is kinda too fast or you try really hard and end up getting zombified and it kinda feels like you "lose", in a way, I dunno.  It's fun, but it's only like 1 out of 10 games that go really awesomely, where either you have a long hard battle and win as the non-infected or you win as the infected when YOU were the original infected.  It's not a terrible bad feeling if it happens the other 9/10 ways it tends to, but I mean, even though I'm  probably far from the best player in the world, I kinda wish I could have a real 'score' to show, like maybe if you got points for infecting someone or for being the main assist in killing a zombie, but that's probably a lot to ask to mess around with the doom engine for, lol.

ANYWAY, this thread's about screenshots, and even though I don't have anything new that's that interesting, I'll toss a few up just to stay on-topic;

This is really silly, but I mean, looking out to that scene with the Ice Man quote, it's just... slkjfljkf

The railgun is so fitting.  Just messing around on cheaterz for a bit.

I was actually trying to take a picture of these 3 guys who were camping out up there above the spike bed, but just as I hit screenshot a zombie had teleported in behind Mega and was infecting them!

I just think this is a cool pic.  Quick Man isn't gonna be quick enough to avoid this pincer attack!

I think roboenza mode is overrated XD
Not that its bad... the other modes just fade away.

Last few days i have seen no normal DM servers at all.

I kinda agree.  Roboenza is fun but the rounds are usually really short and you always feel like you kinda "lose" if you're a zombie, unless you're the one that starts as the zombie.  I'd love to play some LMS or team LMS online but in the near-week I've been playing it's nothing but Roboenza and sometimes normal deathmatch, lol.

Well, I personally wouldn't have even known about all that stuff at the time regardless, though I'm sure it'd have been cool for a lot of people... but I do agree, you should do it for the first expansion, or maybe even every expansion.  It sounded really cool.

Viruses suck, too, yeah..

So I've been playing singleplayer a lot and there's a couple weapon properties that kind of annoy me.

Bubble Lead sure eats up ammo fast; way too fast, I'd say.  Search Snake is extremely similar but has the added bonus of going UP walls as well, maybe it shoots a bit more slowly and is a bit weaker but the damage seems roughly the same as far as I've noticed, and yet it has a massive amount of ammo, whereas Bubble Lead is drained very quickly.

Flash Stopper should have a much steeper "recharge" time in between uses, but do a bit more damage, I think.  As it is, it feels just not as useful as Centaur Flash even though I know they are meant to serve different purposes, it just takes so much Weapon Energy for being mostly about an indirect effect when everyone else is gonna just be spamming powerful weapons whose sole purpose are direct damage, and as far as I can tell the flash effect does little to nothing against bots at that, making it not very useful offline added to the fact Bright Man's stage is by far the most difficult single player mission I've faced yet.  By the same token, Centaur Flash is ridiculously OP against bots who all crowd around in one spot and weaken each other as if screaming for you to spam it on them... though I know usefulness against bots is extremely unimportant as far as weapon balancing, I still thought I'd bring it up.  Besides, it's spammable FAR faster than the effect it causes has time to be removed from the enemy players, I know this could be useful for blinding more players but it's hardly useful damage-wise and increasing reuse time could help people learn to use it more sparingly as is obviously intended.

I have a feeling this has probably been discussed by you guys already by now, but I believe (maybe!) Skull Barrier and especially Plant Barrier should have at least a miniscule damage output.  I understand never adding one to Skull Barrier as it's extremely potent defensively and being able to damage someone even slightly would kind of be as OP as if you could with Time Stopper active, but Plant Barrier serves a purpose that can already be covered easily by all the quickly-respawning energy capsules around every map, E-Tanks and M-Tanks.  It's cool and unique and I like that, but considering how stupid-powerful Star Crash is and how kinda superfluous Plant Barrier's ability is I think it deserves to do a tiny bit of damage (maybe half of Star Crash's) and Skull Barrier maybe a very miniscule amount (like Fire Storm's melee damage but more slowly).

I kinda think Knight Crush should be slightly slower; it's in between Rolling Cutter and Ring Boomerang as far as both firing speed and power, but it seems a little above average in the power department compared to how quickly it can be fired; plus, unless I'm a newbie and this has nothing to do with it, it feels like the wider weapon sprite makes it a heck of a lot easier to hit with than Rolling Cutter and Shadow Blade at least, on top of that.  This might be a silly suggestion but it just seems in my experience that it may be a good idea.

And lastly, I think I may have an idea for that "sniper" weapon we've been talking about in here.  Super Arrow!  Perhaps you could make it so that it's a "charge" weapon (with or without the visual/audio charge cues) and depending on how long you charge up to 5 seconds or so its velocity is faster.  Like, just tapping the button would produce something as slow as, say, Hard Knuckle, but you could stick it in the call to climb with like MM5 or something well enough like that (I dunno if you should be able to right it mid-flight, though, maybe if it's not op you could make tapping cause it to stay in place for a second to do so like MM5).  A small charge could fire it as fast as, say, in between Metal Blade and Magnet Missile or so, and a full charge would be faster than a Dive Missile, or even near-instant, especially if it takes awhile to charge, pretty much slamming instantly into the wall it's pointed at--no matter the distance-- or instantly into the head of whatever player it's pointed at.  It's possibly stretching its ties to Mega Man but no more than Skull Barrier, Plant Barrier or Flash Stopper for example, it's logical enough as a sniper weapon (huntsman in tf2 can be blamed for the idea), and it could satiate people's appetite for a sniping weapon with it being only as "OP" and "annoying" as Atomic Fire.

Oh, this is cool!  Sneasel and Hitmonlee especially..~

If you keep taking requests, I'd adore Magnemite and/or Magnezone, Sandslash, Dunsparce... well, I won't get too into it since I don't wanna overload you.  Magnemite would be so adorable and fitting, at least, though.

Also maybe consider making a pack of them all when you get a bunch done .3.

I actually don't mind the taste of energy drinks but they tend to drain me very, very fast, like overload me or something.  I might have energy for a little bit, then get extremely tired.  It's weird.

Regardless, I must drink an e-tank at some point in my life.

Didn't he design the Robot Masters though?

Elec Man and Wood Man but that's it I believe.

I thought he designed all of the original 6.  Dunno about Time or Oil, and I didn't know he designed Wood either... I thought from 2 onward they were all more or less modified versions of contest-winners they'd hold in Japan, with the exception of 6 which had a Nintendo Power contest from which was produced Wind and Knight.

The only thing wich is too bad about 7 is the fact that if you hit a RM with its weakness they do the most silly attacks (exept for slashman)

The 8bit remake pretty much fixed that.
Still MM7 remains my favorite game of all times

That's one of the coolest things about MM7 though, how they react with such cool cartoony animations to their weakness, and it forces them into a single attack so that you can predict and beat them easily--though for a megaman pro it does kind of kill the fun of it, you can always switch to Mega Buster if that's how you feel.  Or, you can always do hilarious things such as use Thunder Bolt on Spring Man or in many cases a Master's own weapon on themselves in the teleporter room to actually cause the reverse to happen, buff them and cause them to fight even more fiercely.

Sure, I'll play.

I think you should edit the first post in this thread to have all the rules, stages, times, etc etc as they become finalized so everyone can easily read all that info without having to comb through the thread.  And of course update it as needed.

And as for the time thing, I can hardly think of it being "too late" for most people at 10pm in Britain considering the brits i know online tend to be night owls, though considering that's just the *starting* time and it might take awhile I guess I understand.  It's Saturday, though, which is the best day for most people as far as "I won't have to do anything the next day so I can stay up late".

As for me, it's no problem no matter what time it is, I'm not doing anything this weekend and I live EST, which is just one hour later than CST.

It's impossible change the megaman sprite. I wanted to remplace rockman by protoman.
That's not megaman your seeing. He dissappeared from the screen for some reason.
I made FlameMan replace Metal Man.
He shot fireballs instead of metablades, but it looks like he shoots bubbleman...

lmao, that cracks me up.  My weapon is BUBBLEMAN.  No, not Bubble Lead.  BUBBLEMAN.

I've actually never played this personally, despite hearing about it and seeing videos of it for ages now.  Not really sure why,I should try it.

Help & Editing / Re: Various newbie questions~
« on: November 03, 2010, 02:01:23 AM »
Hey, thanks guys.  I appreciate it.

I've been running skulltag just fine and playing online a lot, and I know basic stuff like how to open the console and chat from there, and I know all the FPS basics as I've been playing them online for 10 years now, so I guess there's nothing much I need to worry about; I guess since I know skulltag's been around forever and even though it's looked appealing to me I've never gotten around to actually using it until now, I wanna make sure there's no obvious things everyone expects everyone to know that I don't, but it kinda seems like it's not really difficult or a big deal.

Anyway, about the skins thing, am I gonna have to individually find and download every single one people might be using?  I see there's a big archive thread for at least the Mega Man-themed ones floating around but even then it seems to be each file individually, and there're a lot.. maybe this is a silly idea or a lot to ask, but it'd be cool imo if the forums kept some kind of rar/zip of every skin the community uses in a sticky somewhere so we can see everyone for what they're really supposed to look like.

And, I do have one more new question.  Is there a way to focus on a certain player when in spectator mode?
