Anything Goes / Re: I hate...
« on: November 15, 2010, 04:32:50 AM »
Threads like these,
People who post in threads like these...

Oh wait.

Anyway, moving on.

Physically mature but mentally childish people (applies to 90% of the people I see online),
Bigots (including those narrow-minded fanboys of certain consoles),
Arrogant "gaming veterans" who consider anyone inferior who wasn't around to play games when they were,
RPGCodex (kinda goes hand-in-hand with the former one...a single topic at the site made me hate it),
League of Legend's God-awful community,
Forceful Christians,
Bullies,
The fact that I used to be a bully,
Stupidity,
Arrogance,
People who start rants with "Sorry, but...", just like "Sorry, but fact is that this sucks. Too bad for you",
Some people who insist on using "fag" synonomously with "horrible"...

...and, finally, that I can't spend the night with your Mom. That one bugs me the most.

Buy it, make sure you have several controls, and get some friends together. You're pretty much guaranteed to have a blast. Never heard anyone say anything negative about GoldenEye's multiplayer.

The single player is also great, though, in my opinion. Love some of the stages. Especially Frigate. And it only becomes more fun when you've unlocked some of the cheats.

Yeah, don't get me wrong here. I love DOOM. It belongs in my top 50. But that said, many other first-person shooters come before it.

Also, I'm not saying you CANNOT possibly like Wolfenstein 3D or DOOM more than any other FPS. It was just the logic behind the statement that was severely flawed.

You know what grinds my gears people saying that call of duty is the best fps game of all time. Hmm last time I check Doom and wolfenstien Defined what is FPS so yea for all you ppl out there know your history of gaming

Tell me what grinds your gears

You grind my gears, like so freakin' bad it hurts. Your logic is flawed on so many levels. And you're on a high horse for some reason.

So basically, something new cannot be the best simply because... (AMIGAWSH) it was not the first? Dude, seriously? Are you confusing words here? Best does not equal "original". Originality, while a good thing, doesn't mean it's necessarily even good. Besides that, there is such a thing as improvement. If you polish the original concept for 20 years, of course you will come out with something better, unless nostalgia punches you in the face. I seriously cannot fathom the stupidity of discounting anything new simply because it's not old.

And then you proceed to say "know your history of gaming", just like you cannot possibly know about old games because you enjoy new. You're blinded by your own ego and nostalgia. Grow up.

But anyway, let's get a scenario up in this bitch, shall we? Are you stupid if you say Mega Man 10 is the best one simply because it's not the first Mega Man? How does that work? And does the one calling Mega Man 10 the best "know nothing about the history of Mega Man", simply because he prefers the game that came later? Treat each game as seperate entities. Originality has nothing to do with quality. A rather sucky game can be original, and a superb game can be unoriginal.

I guess you would also say someone who thinks a movie from the '90s is the best are nubcakes who know nothing about movies. I mean, last time you checked, some stuff from the early 1900s defined movies. Clearly, the first movie ever made is the best -- these idiots don't know anything. Because older is better. Quality has nothing to do with anything.

Besides... Wolfenstein 3D? Seriously? It may have been one of the very first, but it's seriously not very good at all if you ask me, let alone is it anywhere near the best. It's as simple as it gets. Too simple. Very bland. Not only are you dead-wrong, but I would say you have poor taste if you consider that to be one of the best games, sir. Most influential, suuure. But that's all it is.

I like pretty much any music from the Mega Man Battle Network games. But let's mention non-Mega Man stuff, shall we?

Final Fantasy III:

Final Fantasy VI:

Hmm...actually having a hard time thinking of battle themes here. Oh, oh! The Last Remnant have one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. One of the best parts about the games. Mind-blowing stuff.

I do like most battle themes I've heard in JRPGs, SRPGS, etc., though. Just can't think of any.

General Gaming Discussion / Re: What's your favourite Capcom game?
« on: November 13, 2010, 09:43:32 AM »
Oh gee. Capcom are of my favorite video game developers. But I guess I will have to go with the one game I loved the most for the NES growing up, and still remains one of my favorite games of all time...

Mega Man 2. Pretty much any criticism I've heard about it is true, like bland stage design and whatnot, but I love it so much nonetheless. The difficulty is absolutely perfect. It's incredibly fun through and through. But I realize it's probably nostalgia playing a part here, but I couldn't care less. I love it and that's all that matters to me.

Camtasia

I have not had a good experience with that one at all. It's really good, has some neat features and the recording thing comes bundled with an editor, which is awesome -- BUT THE FUCKING RECORDER MANAGES TO FREEZE MY PC MORE THAN ANY OTHER SOFTWARE EVER HAS, AND MORE THAN I EVER THOUGHT SOMETHING EVER COULD.

/rageoff

Ahem. This is what happens: I open the thing. Play around with a few options. At random, BAM! The thing and its overlay freezes. Not only does it do that, but it's literally impossible to close it. Can't even kill its process. And because of that, you can't even log off Windows or even shut down the computer. Hell, I can't even force it to shut down by holding the button on the actual PC. The ONLY solution? Pulling the cord out. It's been a hell. I might be alone on this, though. It's a weird error, but that said, I hate Camtasia with a passion. The other day, I had to restart the computer (through that extremely forceful way) 3 times because it fucking hates me.

As long as the song is melodic and not just one endless guitar riff over and over, I'm listening to it.

Also, I don't like obscene lyrics, and I absolutely hate it when the vocals of a song are growling or screaming.  So that counts out most metal.

Kind of contradictory. A lot of metal is VERY melodic, so by your first statement, you should be able to listen to a lot of metal with growling and screaming. Melodic death metal obviously has screaming, and that's very melodic. Certainly not just the same guitar riff over and over, although some have that. And then there's Ensiferum and the like, mixing the genre with power metal to make it even more melodic. Children of Bodom also fits that category, although they suck now.

Anyway, that second statement is pretty ignorant. There's more metal bands than I could possibly count that do NOT utilize screamed or growled vocals, nor have particularly "obscene" lyrics. I think you're looking in the wrong places. Hell, I know you are. But I guess if you're not a fan you might just have heard the more mainstream of "metal" bands, like Slipknot. Ugh. But I wouldn't know, I guess. You might have heard a lot of it.

As you may or may not be able to tell, I'm a metalhead. And one of the reasons I like metal, especially some of the modern bands (1990 and forward), is because a lot of it has focus on melody. That's not to say I don't love the other aspects though, of course. I love the heaviness and speed of it as well. And I do listen to regular death metal from time to time, which it sounds like you're talking about here. I can agree that that's without much melody, and it's almost always obscene. But I like that too. The aggression of it appeals to me. Either it makes me calm, or it makes me want to bang my head against a wall out of pure awesome -- but it never gets me in a bad mood. I like some thrash as well. Bah, I like it all. From traditional metal to symphonic metal, from alternative metal to death metal, from progressive metal to...gee, I don't know. From the rhythm-focused to the ones full of melody. I'm fine with all of it. And on that note, there are luckily MANY bands that mixes several metal genres, to bring me both the melody I love and the aggression. One of these are Opeth. Hell, they even throw some progressive rock in there.

So no one here could possibly care? Music is one of my main interests. I love talking about it, and I would love to know what everyone listens to.

Damn. Two videos sure restricts you. But I see where you're coming from here.

Here's some recent stuff I've been listening to (current faves, if you will):

But bands are oh so overlooked. I can understand why the second one is -- unserious as all hell, although that's all a part of its charm, in my opinion -- but Allegaeon are freakin' grade A technical death metal (with plenty of melodic death metal in there as well). If you like this sort of stuff, I doubt you'll dislike it. Extremely melodic, yet heavy as hell.
