Also, for all the examples you brought up, there's no 8-bit textures available to use for those textures since they were made after the death of stuff like the NES and GameBoy. This kinda defeats the purpose of an 8-Bit Deathmatch.
There was no Rockman and Forte FC done, yet here we are, MM&B Expansion. Plus there were people who actually converted 16-bit textures into 8-bit ones, if my memory betrays me not.

I'm gonna stop you right there and say that is a set of bloody awful ideas.

Kirby would take a lot of work to make the copy-ability function properly, Metroid is best done with detail on the environment (8-bit doesn't have much detail, really), Zelda isn't an adventure game and deserves more depth than deathmatch (actually, same goes for Metroid since it also is based on exploration), and Castlevania isn't much without some creatures of the night to whip to death.

I'm surprised Mega Man works, all the rest would be a bloody mess to implement to a deathmatch setting. Maybe some deathmatch to the side, but not as the main course. Especially since you'll be most likely destroying many aspects that we all know and love from them.

Besides, there's already some mods based off some of those for Doom. Metroid Dreadnought, the Unnamed Zelda Mod, and Castledoom/Doomvania.
Excuse me, but I can prove you wrong in regards to Zelda and Metroid. Metroid got two or three Prime games with DM elements, one of which has two kinds of enemies use bot AI actively, and they are as annoying (if not more) as Zandronum Bots. As for Zelda, Link Between Worlds provide some sort of PvP, not sure if bot-based.

But in regards to Kirby you are MOSTLY right, however Kirby Triple Deluxe features a Smash Bros-like PVP (except it is health based instead of sending everyone flying off), so that kinda gives some hope.

I was also going to mention Mario or Pokémon, but I can't see how the former could work nor how the later could be stable and even scripted (absurd amount of codes).

Oh, don't put much money on the ones for Doom. There has been previous approaches at adventure-oriented Metroid and Zelda FPS for Doom or similar (Custom Game Maker Engine) that never went on.

Also, consider: Mega Man's inventory is larger than all those I suggested sans Castlevania (which hold a monsterous inventory)

Here's the cause. Open GL. Same issue as many users.

Let me explain what is happening: Zandronum has been reported many users are having crash on startup with Nvidia's OGL, and this has been fixed for Zandronum 2.0. Also, this means in no way that your graphics driver is busted and needs reinstall, as you can try testing the Zandronum 2.0 Alpha Builds or GZDoom and never face similar issues.

Small convention scale tournament? Possibly, they are very common with official games involved like Guitar Hero and Dragon Ball, and I have yet to hear a case of legal issue involving those. National or international scale tournament? Heck no. Not only it would risk a legal issue (though it would be unlikely to be with Capcom, but rather someone else) but would risk turning MM8BDM into another CoD or LoL.

While "modding and fan content won't stop", this is both a good thing and a bad thing. Good thing because of what was said before: Doom received thies treatment, and even so many years later it still gets a lot of mods for it, one even adding Voxel decorations, pickups and switches, while another adds extreme violence and executions. Bad thing because its very "core" will be gone eventually, like we see in custom game modes or Total Conversions that removes even Doomguy.

Future, in other words, is uncertain, for best or worse.

Might be silly, but a better follow-up for MM8BDM could be a Legend of Zelda Conversion, specially since A Link Between Worlds does something to prevent item abuse or running out of ammo that would transition quite well to deathmatch... Then, again, just opinions.

like that one about Tron weapons *couhg couhg* jajaja just kiding Tsuki :3 (anyways, that one was a blast)
Ah, yes... I never went beyond the Discs of Tron system for it, mostly because I needed Mapping help and stuff... But I kinda know why DA's project didn't go on: people possibly wanted to see weapons and class(es) done first. If another of those projects rises, I might try to help.

Idea: Metroid Prime Hunters mod for MM8BDM. Combat Visor (HUD material) can be ripped for all Hunters without having to do a multiplayer game (thanks Bot system!), and we could take some liberties such as having First Person in Morphball Mode (without the Combat Visor but with HUD objects on its own) and maybe try a simple radar system (shows only nearby enemies, except if they are cloaked like Trace)

Updated it again, compatibility update.
As if people play my stuff... Eh, doesn't matter, I am satisfied with the effort I spent on them.
