A rust monster has such a corrosive personality, don't you agree?

I don't even need to post anything.  Action 52 is its own worst enemy.  I understand that while it was in use, the cartridge could overheat or even melt.  So, I will merely help it along to its destruction with a heat gun.

 I didn't know Capcom made that game...
Yep.  They made Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages and The Minish Cap.

I think I would have to pick one of their fighting games, but I can't figure out which one, yet.  I so rarely get to play them against other people.  It can be amazing to watch what skilled players can do with Capcom fighting games, though.  Be it in combo videos or what happens during tournament play.

STICKLY MAN!
WHAAAAAAAAAT are you doing?!

Are you asking for a CHAAALEEEEENGE?!
I completely forgot about the fight scene in that Flash animation!  It was Xiao Xiao-esque.  Not to be confused with Dangeresque.

And I realize I still haven't finished Stinkoman 20X6.

I'd be Stickly Man with my shovel attack!
The stage would be 'under construction'.
The most nefarious Robot Master from 1996, giving people hope that a Web page will look better if you give it enough time.  I bet your stage would be filled with animated E-Mail icons and spinning arrows.  But what other Robot Masters would belong to your Webring?  Now that I think of it, I have seen an E-Mail Man during deathmatches for MM8BDM.  Hmm... this may be something worth exploring later.

hmmm... can some1 give me the Mario Kart Skin? The creator of the skin says to download it from Mediafire, but the people who run the service want a way to recover some of their operating expenses, such as bandwidth costs. and i cant download it without clicking on "Click here to start download" if i dont sign up for additional services beyond downloading individual files for free-_-

Fixed some of that for you.

Anything Goes / Re: What if video games were real?
« on: December 08, 2010, 08:48:38 AM »
I believe all of the points listed on this blog came from a poster my brother owns a copy of, but they are especially funny if you're over a certain age.  One of them was touched on in that "If They Were Real."

Speaking of Egoraptor's work, under no conditions would I ever want The Sims to be real.

If Japanese RPGs were real (not necessarily only the good ones), you get College Saga.

Street Fighter: The Later Years fills a similar niché.

It is a slang expression which means that he besically thinks that Wily is a crazy and stupid old man.
Kook = crazy or strange person
Cook = someone who prepares meals.  Also, the act of preparing food.

Admittedly, the English language is plagued with homophones and homonyms, but it escaped the notice of the translators' spellcheckers and the game's testers.  At least Bass wasn't referring to Dr. Willy.

In other news, the cylinders found in the floors of the fifth and seventh rooms of Magnet Man's stage have an R and a W on them.  I believe that's a reference to Dr. Wily and Dr. Right (Light) working together which I hadn't fully understood before.  I've read recently that Mega Man III may have been rushed, so I don't really care about whether or not that contradicts anything.  I just think it's neat they had a combined logo on something.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Usefull Expansion Pack (For custom content)
« on: December 07, 2010, 07:46:34 AM »
Thanks for posting this here.  I wasn't looking for add-ons, but that playlist feature caught my eye.  How do you add music stored in a .wad into a .m3u playlist, though?  I don't see a command for adding a currently playing song to a playlist.

Edit: Well, my intention to use this instead of "changemus" seems to be a bust.  The playlist feature is apparently intended to work with regular .m3u files, not anything specific to Skulltag, as far as I can tell.  From what I've been able to find on the .m3u format, it's easy enough to manually edit each playlist file, but I think you need the time to play each song in there; doesn't seem to offer looping a song.  Not only that, but I don't think .m3u can contain anything but a path to a file, and the file in this case would be a .wad, rather than a file within that .wad, unless there's a command or option you can include which I don't know about.

It seems it would work fine if I wasn't trying to listen to Mega Man music on repeat in a .wad file.  If I'm wrong, let me know.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Roboenza Frendly Maps

If there were Roboenza friendly maps, would they simply be the default for the mode, or would the mode be locked to using those?  I suppose there are some who might like to include Hard Man stage in the rotation for this reason:

That's an actual Maverick name?  I thought it was just one of those strange nicknames/insults the Internet cooked up, like Fumbles McStupid or Angry McPointy.

...wow, it's true.

Erm... to contribute to the topic, then.  I think that the capabilities of the protagonists affect how challenging the Robot Masters or the Mavericks are, but I've only played Mega Man X so I can't really comment on Mavericks anymore than someone who has only played the original Mega Man can comment on Robot Masters.  The first attempts at each of these groups of bosses probably aren't representative of the challenge posed by later ones, since I don't know everything the protagonists could do in the X series.

That said, designs may be a bit more interesting when dealing with the limitations of previous hardware.  I certainly like the details on Robot Masters such as Dive Man and animations they have been able to work into sprites for Robot Masters such as Toad Man and Nitro Man.  Then again, they were able to add a little extra touch with Launch Octopus in MMX with that prefight pointing with one of his arms.  I wish that Ring Man had done something like that to cement his purpose.  I guess the one thing I can say is there were far more Robot Masters' without voices than Mavericks without voices.  I prefer that.  Too easy to pick a grating English voice cast.

...seriously, Duff McWhalen??  I just can't get over that.

Help & Editing / Re: Im New And I Need HELP
« on: December 07, 2010, 02:56:43 AM »
If you haven't already, go here and get the latest version of the game (v1c, currently).  The file you download will be a .zip archive.  If you don't already have a program to open .zip archives, install something like 7-Zip.  After you've extracted the files in that archive to a folder, run MM8BDM (the icon is Mega Man's head) as MagnetMan497 said.  That will open the MM8BDM launcher.  Click on the Start button and you will briefly see it running Skulltag (the Doom II engine which the game uses, essentially) while it's loading everything you need to play the game.

You can let the intro play if you want, but eventually press just about any key to bring up the menu (aside from the ~ key or the Escape key).  On the menu, press Enter to go into a submenu or select an option to configure, Escape to leave.  You'll probably want to go to Option, then Customize Control to assign keys for movement (forward, backward, strafe left, strafe right, and jumping, at the least).  You can also choose your skin and set your player name.  The Start option on the main menu will begin the single player mode.  You could configure your controls after you've started playing, too, by pressing the Escape key to bring up the menu.  Pressing Escape again will close the menu.

For online multiplayer games, you might need additional files to play on certain servers, such as for Roboenza mode.  You can download files and then add them using the launcher before you click the Start button, but you will probably find DoomSeeker to be easier to use.

Not playing this until I play MM8 for real..... One day.
Sega Saturn version, or PlayStation/Anniversary Collection?

I have played MM8 and when this 8-bit version is finished, I think I will prefer it over the original.  For one thing, the number of bolts in the game is not finite (there are only 40 bolts in MM8).  There are other changes to the shop due to this, some items seem to have been removed, others changed to one-time-use, but you can now buy 1-ups and E-tanks as you can in MM7, MM9 and MM10.  This version also doesn't have the intro stage, doesn't seem to have the mid-stage and there's no voice acting, poorly done in English or otherwise.  I like how they recreated the cutscenes in the opening.  Though I can't understand the text, I know I'm not really missing much.  For the water areas, the swimming mechanic is gone and I found Aqua Man's stage to be redesigned well to account for that.  Perhaps a little too lenient in parts where you can ignore the enemies.  That one block puzzle in Search Man's stage is my only complaint so far, beyond something else which may be my controller or JoyToKey's fault; I'm sometimes switching weapons when I don't mean to.

If I can finally progress beyond the auto-scrolling "snow boarding" in Wily stage 1 to see the rest of the fortress, I will probably be much happier with the 8-bit version than I ever was with the original.  For now, I still have another 3 Robot Master stages.

Edited: Done with Astro Man's stage, but it isn't entirely done.  They seem to have the "pit" part down, but not the "bottomless" part, in some cases.
