Mega Man Discussion / Re: Rockman 8 FC 2.86b is out!

Features: ...all 8 bosses unlocked right from the beginning... stages adapted (just so you are not forced to beat the "4 first bosses" to get through the 4 that followed).
I tried to do a different order, but the game is making me suffer for it.  I'm currently attempting Search Man's stage, but while I have the Flame Sword, I do not have Thunder Claw.  Disappearing block puzzles have been added to the stage, seemingly to keep Thunder Claw from being a requirement, but the final one has not been implemented in a way to make it passable.

Here's a screenshot I took and then added squares for missing blocks.

I can't explain the exact order which they appear in, but if you encounter it yourself, you'll see that the only way to use the block puzzle would be to slide from above the gate (which must be shot to be opened) and fall down to it.  However, it doesn't seem possible to hop or slide onto the blocks where you must slide; they are effectively inaccessible.  There isn't enough time to jump up to them from the bottom block using the Mega Ball, either.

If you want to try it for yourself, here's my latest password.

A2,A4,B4,C2,C3,D1,D2,D3,E5,F3,F4,F6
That will give you Flame Sword, Water Balloon, the three permanent items from the shop and some amount of bolts which I currently don't remember.

I hadn't heard the word yashichi before Mega Man 10.  I didn't know that Rush could make it appear in Mega Man 8.  I somehow forgot there was one in Mega Man.  Considering where it is found, I have probably never picked that one up.

Hacking games like Brawl is fine but piracy is bad mmkay kids?  :ugeek:
I'll second that, assuming we have the same definition of theft and murder in international waters.  That said, here's a video I found showing off some hacks for SSBB.

Customizing menu screens.  Reskinning characters.  Replacing stages.  All-in-all a creative collection of fair use.

Finally going through all of Shagg's original Let's Play Mega Man 4 series featuring commentary from Pink "Kitty" Rose.  Didn't know you could do this with Rain Flush.

I dunno. I thought that since the game has a storyline to connect it (and a pretty darn good storyline, at that)...

I dunno, I just want to keep an already amazing storyline... well, still making "sense". And I want my Legendary Ending dammit

These are the parts which I question.  Maybe you have different criteria for the quality of a story than I do, but I see MM8BDM as a fun game, not a great story.  The story is there as an excuse to have robots from the classic games shooting each other with weapons from the classic games.  Beyond that, it emulates the style of premise found in games of that era, which kinda fall apart if you think about them much.  I mean, would you really expect that a tournament for who can build the best robot would only involve contests of blowing-things-up-itude?  Why would Blizzard Man and Plant Man be entered into that?

Now the Protomen, they made a good story out of the Mega Man games.

If there was a fan game based on their rock operas, I would have high expectations of that game's ending.

Anything Goes / Re: Best Snes/Gamecube/N64/SegaMD Game you played.
« on: December 03, 2010, 06:40:26 AM »
Super Smash Bros. was definitely the game which spent the most time in my N64.  I'll put it down as a tie for best multiplayer between that game and Perfect Dark.  The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for single player.  I'm sure someone will consider that blasphemy.

SNES, I think Super Metroid takes the title.  It's still fun to go back to it.  But the game barely eeks out ahead of Chrono Trigger since I would rather recommend the Nintendo DS version.

GameCube is a more difficult choice.  Mega Man Anniversary Collection was filled with games from other systems and reversed the shoot and fire buttons.  There was a lot which I liked in Super Mario Sunshine (the way the water looks and moves still amazes me) but there were too many red coin missions.  But I can't forget Spider-Man 2.  Bruce Campbell's narration also gave the game so much character.  For multiplayer, Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Sega Megadrive/Genesis.  Streets of Rage 2 was the pinnacle of side-scrolling beat-em-ups, in my opinion.  They don't make 'em like that anymore.

It was perhaps a year or so ago when I learned it is possible to aim the Hard Knuckle in MM3 up and down after it starts moving.

Today I had a funny one in the game. I snuck around and hid, trying to blend with the enviroment. Someone even called me master of disguise, but I know they were joking or being sarcastic. Anyways, this made me think of how fun it'd be if I had a cardboard box skin, like Snake's
Or if you could crouch in the water on Plant Man's stage with a hat made out of Wheel Gator, if anyone remembers the Metal Gear Solid 3 teaser trailer.

Ah, the Capcom hand. The best way to tell a true Megaman fan from a casual fan is to do this hand sign.
Wow.  I've been doing that hand gesture for years (minus the posing) and didn't even know about this.  Never paid attention to character art for Capcom games other than Street Fighter.  Unless I picked it out of Nintendo Power or instruction booklets subliminally.

Copycat, you're not allowed to damage them.
I was considering it as a way to keep the fight interesting when dodging without aiming is easy enough.  But, I see the problem with Mega Man, Mega Man 7 Robot Masters who might flinch.

I could probably make Jewel Man go on forever.
I'm just going to aim for 30 minutes maximum for any attempt, as I would rather not spend more time than that.  That said, I just clocked 25 minutes 50 seconds on Nitro E challenge and then the phone rang.

That's funny cause I ended up using the Turok control scheme on every console FPS since that game
More power to you. C-buttons for movement, especially when combined with platforming, was not my bag.

In that case, have you ever heard of the Megaman PC games?

No? Good.
I am vaguely aware of them from looking up sprites the have appeared in MS Paint Masterpieces.  I thought that webcomic had far more original content before looking into some of the less popular games.  Saw one video of the 1st game, too, and at least it looked functional.  Ugly, but functional.

I've been digging through Shagg's YouTube account for some of the older and less-organized videos there.  I was trying to find if he had ever played Mega Man and he did... except it's a Game Gear version I didn't even know existed, done by U.S. Gold.  Which was a British company, despite it's claim of All-American Software, but that's beside the point.  The point is I now have an idea how awful a licensed Mega Man game can get and appreciate the quality of the Inti Creates ones to a greater degree.  I found myself laughing at the combination of screen size and force beams because I would have cried, otherwise.  Beyond that, I'm not sure which is worse, fighting Dr. Wily's capsule from MM5 which can go off-screen and make his life bar invisible, or fighting a tiny version of the MM5 octopus miniboss with a tiny hitbox and makes your own life bar invisible.  Also, for the people complaining about version 1C's Power Stone, you might be thankful it isn't this.

Honestly, Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch is one of the hardest games I have finished in recent memory, but I don't often play first-person shooters.  If I had not been sick, I don't think I would have attempted to put in the time to fight 46 Robot Masters and then the final boss.  But here's what I can remember from olden days.

Contra (NES)
?Contra, 30 guys!?
?Contra, 30 guys!?
?Contra, 30 guys!?
?The following code makes the body count rise?

Side-note: One Second Ghost, also by the Gothsicles, captures all non-one-hit-death games from that era in a way which I find to be delicious.  Not only for the lyrics, but the sampling of the audio cues from subject matter, starting with a Mega Man crash.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (Nintendo 64)
Cyerbenetic dinosaurs appear out of fog.  Once, I noticed one just in time to watch it backhand me off of a cliff.  I think the final boss was riding a Tyranosaurus Rex before you had to fight his teleporting-self.  But mostly I remember those controls as the worst I've ever tried for that genre.

Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage (SNES)
That has got to be the most difficult side-scrolling beat-em-up I have ever played and finished.  It's probably the most difficult game I have finished, period.  ...until the day I finally get through Castlevania III.
