Mega Man Discussion / Re: Your marathon fight times!
« on: December 01, 2010, 06:05:39 AM »
My first attempt at this was over 12 minutes against the normal version of Blade Man.  Mega Man 10 seems conducive to this, since you can just pull up a challenge for an individual Robot Master.  Blade Man's pattern is so easy to manipulate, I think I'm going to have to make it interesting by seeing how long I can go without killing him, such as damaging him only every Xth time it loops.

I'm playing through Mega Man 10 with Bass for the second time, but I only just noticed that during the griping Bass-contracts-Roboenza-but-doesn't scene, he says "We gotta go teach that old cook a lesson he won't soon forget."

Old cook?  Apparently, Bass is after Mr. Food, not Dr. Wily.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Megaman 10, Worth It?

I kinda really love MM10, like, a lot.

In fact, shamelessly plugging here, I wrote the one and only walkthrough for the game (as far as I know) on the internet.  I just... really love it!
I just downloaded the game recently and was using that guide to figure out the special stages.  So, thank you.

I also thought the game was worth the price.  Double, even, though that's deceptive because it's not like you don't pay more if you want the special stages and Bass Mode.  I haven't tried Endless Attack, yet.  Bass is fun to use.  Those special stages felt like such an accomplishment to get through, aside from the boss of 3 if you have the weapon from 2.  I was a little disappointed that Bass and Proto Man don't get to use the special stage weapons, but they also give me incentive to use Mega Man more often.

If you like Megaman 1-6, get it. What are you waiting for??  :p
I was waiting until I had done everything in Mega Man 9, but then I saw this thread and got impatient.  If someone ever asked for a recommendation I think I would say 10 over 9, though I still really like that game.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: So, you've recently been infected with Roboenza?
« on: November 24, 2010, 11:37:52 PM »
Thanks for the guide!  Now I know that the first infected starts without flinching, when I thought it was unintentional.  However, I have seen someone claim that strafing will make an infected move faster.  Anyone want to share their opinions on that?  Or better yet, host an infected vs. strafing infected vs. uninfected 100 meter dash to provide some evidence?

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Let's settle this...
« on: November 22, 2010, 06:12:15 AM »
I voted for Mega Man 3.  Mega Man 2 has the most well known introduction of the series, but I loved MM3 from the moment I heard the intro music.  Rush was a welcome addition, as was Proto Man's song and portion of the ending.  I also liked Doc Robot, even though I rarely progressed past the revisited stages when I was younger.  I didn't fully understand Top Spin until seeing Pink Kitty Rose's YouTube videos and even now it's an odd weapon, but one which is still satisfying to use to beat Gamm.a  Unless you're partial to Search Snake.  I even prefer MM3's weapon select screen to any other.  There were also the controller 2 cheats which were great for freezing Magnet Man's disappearing blocks in place at that age.

Besides, I can't defeat Air Man.

Funny stuff.  I liked seeing the changes made in the 2nd version after watching the 1st, particularly how they fit in Chill Spike.

I'm not a very good music critic, but I like what I have listened to so far.  Hmm...  Have you ever heard of Gamewave Podcast?  Episodes are a bit infrequent now, but people can request chiptunes on there.  Have I ever heard your work on there?  From the title, "Earth's Troubles" looks familiar.

Heheh, great little video.

starring ice man as the penguin
Once the MM8 expansion is done, Tengu Man would have the nose for the role.  Then again, Dive Man would have all the nautical references and the closest thing to an exploding shark.

Just add the Moby skin to that.  :)

Help & Editing / Re: Questions about messages, spectating and playing

That does work, Yellow Devil.  Thank you!  Unfortunately for me, I finished chapter 6 before reading that.     Still, is there a list of the weapon names somewhere?  I can think of a few other weapons I would like to bind if I go back to single player anytime soon.

Thanks again for the quick reply, Ivory.

This should definitely be my last question for single player.  How can I bind switching to Top Spin to a button?  I understand "bind buttonname slot#," but the order of the weapons bound to the number row doesn't match the order when I use my scroll wheel (bound to weapprev and weapnext).  So, I guess I would like either a way to find out what each slot contains, or a way to switch to a weapon regardless of slot.  Is it possible to bind by weapon name?

A new question has popped up.  I think this one might be a bug, but I'm not certain.

Each time after Time Stopper runs out my weapon switches to the Mega Buster.  Then, I don't see it in my list of weapons, anymore.  Is that normal behavior for the weapon?

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: that cross in the ceiling of knight man's stage
« on: November 19, 2010, 10:49:56 PM »
Odd turns this topic has taken.  Yeah, there's a difference between what you like and what the character you control does, but there's also a difference between RPGs and action games in the amount of choice of your character.  Something like Fallout has the mechanics for a wide range of actions and storylines.

That said, I never got the impression that Castlevania was heavy-handed on Christianity, or saw the elements as anything other than part of the setting.  Aside from throwing cross-boomerangs (which I find awesome) and holy water, there was just the occasional cross in the backgrounds of the earliest games.  There were far more monsters from Greek mythology than Judeo-Christian mythology in the series, at least until Symphony of the Night came along.  And doesn't Aria of Sorrow start at a Shinto shrine?  All-in-all, Castlevania is probably a grab-bag of myths.

Flying zombies?!
Made me think of this comic.

Anyway, from slightly to very funny:

On deathmatch yesterday, I accidentally used Rush Coil instead of an Energy Tank.  I died, but I respawned in time to see the person who fragged me thrown up in the air by Rush.

Bored and on a deathmatch server with only one other person?  What should you do?  Both of you grab Search Snake, stand a certain distance away and fire at each other while you try to jump the incoming snakes.  Behold: Jump Snake!  Haven't tried it, but if a third player shows up and you can convince them to be in the middle, it could be Double Dutch Jump Snake.   :)

Finally, last night on a Roboenza server, I was the starting infected.  I was moving when it happened, then frozen-in-place.  And then hit by a forcebeam.  Quickman Stage wins: Flawless Victory.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Opening the Flood Gates: Rock Man no Constancy

Thats how it would be. You would do a specific set of events in the Mega Man 2 Chapter, and it would open up Rock Man no Constancy levels.
Is it possible for an expansion to set up triggers in MM8BDM?  Even if it is, should that be the only path to playing it?  I think it would be a better idea to let people with Rockman no Constancy play it after getting it.

There was also a Difficult mode patch, but perhaps it could be unlocked from within the expansion?  What the Difficult mode should be in an FPS, I don't know.  There isn't an invincibility state to remove, and you wouldn't see your green sprite, so that just leaves doubling and halving damage from and to the bots, respectively.
