Mega Man Discussion / Re: The Night That Changed Everything (RP)
« on: August 14, 2013, 02:21:15 AM »
Fake-Man had stood quietly at the same spot since the party began, not moving a muscle.  Yes, I was sent here by the police force, he thought, and it's about time, too.  Ever since Grenade-Man was built and liberated back in 20XX, he had simply wrecked every New Years party since by blowing something—or someone—up.  Cut-Man still wouldn't go near the guy.  Luckily, he was built and liberated the very next year, 20XX, and he'd been arguing with the police force to make a policeman—himself—mandatory at the party.  Now, finally, this year, 20XX, they decided to let him go.  He checked his watch.  11:00 PM.  In an hour, it would be 20XX.  Funny how they're all the same year, he idly thought to himself, eyeing Grenade-Man at the bar.
Eventually, he could not deny that the number of drinking Robots made it look like fun, and he broke his statuesque appearance and sauntered to the bar.  "Waiter, give me something simple.  Low alcohol content.  A drunk policeman is as good as a car with no gas."  He removed his faceplate and was just about to reach for his shot when he heard the boisterous shouts of one Grenade-Man.  Instantly tensing, his hand went to his chamber, hoping he wouldn't have to spin it.  "Mister Grenade-Man, please calm down.  There is no need to pick a fight.  We're all here to have fun."

The sound of a quick pair of boots suddenly was heard, tearing down the streets at a pace nearly rivaling that of Quick-Man.  As the sound came closer, the outline of a straitlaced policeman Robot could be seen through the darkness.  He sped up straight to Plant-Man, saluted, and said, "Officer Fake-Man, reporting for duty!"

He dropped the salute, as quickly as he appeared, and walked around slowly, his hands clasped behind his back.  "Yes, I know you didn't bring me an invitation.  I was assigned by the police force to ensure nothing bad goes down here at this party.  Noise and confusion of this caliber would be an excellent time to launch an attack, and, well...it wouldn't be the first time something illicit happened at a Robot Master party," he added, alluding to the last time Heat-Man got a bit too zealous and ruined everyone's evening.
"Don't bother trying to get rid of me; I'm staying.  That being said, I'll try not to be a stick in the mud.  It is a celebration, after all—might as well try to have a good time.  I'm not much of a dancer, but I might even help myself to a couple drinks.  Enjoy yourselves, now," he said with a wave, and found a place to stand where he wouldn't get in the way.

+1 for Obliterating Posting Order

I hate it when I have something to say, I'm ready to post, but I can't because I have to wait for all these other people.

Damn it it's not at Mega Storm that forum is totally going down

Might as well sign up to be Officer Fake-Man.  I'll try my best.

Did I seriously forget the link?  Yup, I did...just released yesterday, in fact.

Hey, look what I was told of!
Mega Man:  Rock Force by Goldwater

The under-the-surface third competitor between MMU and MMRevo.  Mega Man decides to elect a team of other Robot Masters to fight in times of crisis.  Dr. Light builds a new Robot, similar to Mega Man, and christens him Justice-Man for the purpose of helping to train the Robots.  When the "Rock Force" vanishes after being sent against the Standard-Issue 8 Rebellious Robots, Mega Man sets out to take action.  If Mega Man Unlimited (Released now, much to everyone's chagrin) was a conman who fooled you into thinking you were going to have a good time, that makes Mega Man:  Rock Force an honest Joe.  The game is pretty easy and its physics are more than a little wonky, but that doesn't keep it from being a good time to play.

I feel like you earn things more if you, y'know, actually earn them.  Buying them in a shop is fine, but you'll feel more significance in finding them, as if you earned them rather than farming Screws.  This won't stop people from farming E-Tanks; it will stop them from farming for major equipment like the Energy Balancer.

An acceptable substitute would be MM8-style, but with the money not in obvious or easy-to-reach places.

Both had rather shitty plot twists and highly questionable last levels.

Uh, yeah...stop right there, and explain to me how

is just as bad as

Anyways, my thoughts on the matter:
> MMRevo was trailing behind MMU in terms of Robot/enemy design.  Neither of them were super memorable but MMU did have Yoku-Man, and MMRevo's aren't quite as appealing to look at.
> MMRevo's plot kicked the pants off of MMU's, but a monkey could do that in a matter of hours.  In all due seriousness, though, MMRevo's plot was excellent, I hope it inspires plots of similar caliber for years to come.
> MMRevo's difficulty is way low, while MMU's is way high.  In this case, MMRevo lacks challenge while MMU has unfair bullshit.  A key difference is that in MMRevo, most of the challenge is doing the task placed before you (Which can be negated with the right assist item), while in MMU most of the things need to kill you at least once, sometimes many many times, before you know how to handle them (The Wily battle is a glaring example of this).
> MMRevo's glitchiness must be taken into account.  Mega Arm pushed at least 17 extra lives offscreen and MMRevo became unplayable four separate times while I was playing it.
> MMRevo has replay value because there is more than one playable character.  As already stated, I cannot see myself ever wanting to play MMU ever again.

Overall, I will say that at the end of the day, I had more fun playing MMRevo than I did MMU, making it the superior game by definition.

I did beat it a few days ago.  My thoughts in a small, contained nutshell:

First and foremost, awful plotline, the worst I've ever seen, and I've seen some shit!  Follow the link to be treated to an honest review of exactly what happens and why it is so terrible.
The difficulty, aside from some unfair bullshit that the game contains (Like Tank-Man's fight, MMUDW1's boss, and the battle against Wily), was challenging but bearable.  All things considered it's about as hard as RNC-Normal and marginally easier than RM4MI, as I've beaten this but am not even close to beating that.
The graphics, except the stray pixelarts that are awful in cutscenes, are polished to the point where it looks official.  Enemy design is good; Robot Masters abuse the hell out of shine but they at least look nice.  The True Final Boss is atrociously bad-looking though.
Music still could use some work.  Save for a couple songs (Yo-Yo-Man's Theme and Yoku-Man's Theme), the Robot Master themes range from "meh" to totally awful (The Vs. Robot Master theme comes to mind).  From MMUDW1 onward, though, the music got pretty good.
No replay value whatsoever.  I normally don't replay games I've already completed, but I cannot imagine myself ever wanting to play this game, ever again.

The game did not go without some redeeming qualities, and the gameplay in and of itself wasn't all that bad.  Overall, there are both fangames and official games that beat the pants off of this one in seconds.  I'd give it a 5/10.
Is it worth making an MM8BDM expansion for?  Perhaps.  Balancing the weapons might be difficult, and finding mappers for a game like this would probably be even harder than the time we have for other expansions.  But we could neutralize a lot of the horrible mistakes MPX made in his game in an MM8BDM expansion.

Um well.

After 2,000 years in development hopefully it will have been worth the wait.
Custom-Man Skin released!

DOWNLOAD

Don't let the topic name fool you; he is in fact called "Customman" in game as most of the people whose opinions I trusted agreed that was the only acceptable name.  Since you guys can't make up your minds at all, though, I'll take this opportunity to remind you that you can rename the skin to whatever you want and not hurt anything.
We here at CF's Skin Shop would like to thank you for your patronage and hopefully you won't have to wait so long for a quality skin next time.

EDIT:  Also finally fixed the mistake in Speed-Man's frames that he's had this whole time so if you could redownload him that'd be great.

Darn.  There goes that.

Now what?  I honestly don't think I can improve those walk frames...

EDIT:  Hold...hold the phone...
*Record scratch*

Thanks to Blaze McPhearson for never deleting things from his computer and tossing this my way!  I'll be back to improve this skin and try to have its new edition ready by this evening.

Uh, is his shooting frame just his standing frame or something?

I think he's supposed to be firing the Knight Crush...
I based his Fire frame upon the pose he is striking on the Modification button, where he appears to be thrusting his arms upward and outward.  This is more evident in some frames than others.

Quote from: "Magnet Dood"
EDIT: also his Knight Crush COMPLETELY DISAPPEARS on the side frame
Yeah, I'm an idiot and I forgot to add it.  Of course, I don't notice this until after I uploaded it.

Shooting frames on the side look wacko.
I don't like them either; I got lazy.  I'll fix them later.

Brotoad has a sheet of Toadman walking somewhere. If you can find a way to contact him, I don't think he'd mind giving it to you.
That would have been nice to know 2,000 years ago

Where do you think I'd have the best shot of contacting him?

I'm very good at being lazy, have you noticed?

Anyways after 2,000 years in development I finally finished this dude's skin.

Not my best work; Toad's feet murdered me.  Otherwise I think I would have been able to franken this guy pretty well.
Like always, you have a full day to point out problems with the skin that I can't see before I make it.

I know the whole world is about to murder each other over collecting MMU's sprites.  Fear not; I have an advanced sprite ripping tool for you all here.
Take ScreenGet, an advanced software that will take pictures of the screen rapidly as you play.  A strong computer will be ideal for using this software, as it may get intensive with both it and MMU running at the same time.

(Note that I did not create this software; credit goes to its inventors.  Also special thanks to Spriter's Resource for telling me about it.)
