I mean the same problem I've been having for months.

Would a wireless network adaptor mess with it?

I'm at the CTF server, but I need to go to work soon.

I tried to make a Screw Scramble server to help out, but I'm still having problems with having the server appear.
It's there, but no one can see it.

old computer viruses are fun, and amusing, you can clearly see the difference from today's viruses

Aww. Good remixes! I'm conflicted.

Also, Lag Man, Ivory deleted that post saying that it constitutes a death threat.

I just want to be clear that I was not threatening anyone.
It's just an expression used a lot where I live.
No one should actually be shot.

Well, I mean, SOME people should be shot, but...
Well whatever, you know what I mean.

I love it.

Bought it for PS2, and I kind of regret that.

The unlockables were absolutely poo-poo except for the full episode of the Ruby Spears cartoon show.

I forgot to write 'INB4 obnoxious poster with incredibly rare exception'.
Way to go, Nitro.

There are skulltag servers up that NO ONE plays, which are permanently up there just in case those wads get some interest and people want to play. By that I mean PERMANENT, they never go down or change unless Skulltag gets updated, that's the kind of permanent I was hoping to see but sadly it doesn't seem like anyone has the capabilities for that.

Or 3.) We throw all of the most popular WADs in with the main game, and update it regularly.
This has been brought up frequently for the longest time, and has been adamantly rejected, but as you said, these people are lazy as all crap.

Nope. Doing it this way is too messy and doesn't solve the main issue with people: They don't understand/care how to run MM8BDM properly, as in, they won't know what WAD files to add even if they have them sitting in a folder somewhere. You might say "well those people are idiots and don't deserve to play LOL!" but in this generation, so many people are used to just clicking and playing away that you just HAVE to compromise for them. PC gamers aren't what they used to be simply because of things like steam. You can buy, download and play a game without any thought or anything and rarely do you have to go around your computer to install a game (or heck, even a mod for a game). If we really wanted to solve this, we'd have to make a spiffing GUI that can easily download popular mods and run them for you when you try to click on a server. Sadly I don't have the capabilities to write (a good) one and neither does anyone else here so we're kinda stuck with it for now.

That, and think how huge MM8BDM would get with things like the many community map packs in. It already frustrates the shit out of me knowing that to play MM8BDM with some new maps would cost me several gigs (thanks to uncompressed mp3s etc etc) of space, imagine if people who wanted to play this saw that the core MM8BDM download was going to cost them that much?

Trying to get a few vanilla servers up isn't along term solution, but as you can see a long term solution pretty much isn't possible (at the moment at least), so we should make do with the best that we can. If you can't see a vanilla server up on the server list, and you have the power to host one, please do so. That is all I am asking.

It isn't an unreasonable request.
And unfortunately, I've not been able to run servers of late.

Doesn't DeathWind have those capabilities?
Why not ask him?

Why not have a fundraiser to hire a GUI writer?
Or is that unrealistic?
I have to idea how much that would cost.

As far as space, when we download all those things individually, it amounts to the same storage space, so what's the big difference?

Hate to say, but we've been down this road so many times.

Regulars don't often want to play vanilla MM8BDM.
New people want to.

Problem is, there aren't enough new people trying this game to fill these servers up.

Here is how I've seen this happen many times now:

People promise to host vanilla, regulars may make an effort to join for a few days out of nostalgia or a sense of duty, maybe one or two new people show up.

A couple days pass, no traffic in forever.
Server host is frustrated because he doesn't want to host a server with consistently no people.
He stops hosting it.

No vanilla servers for a length of time.

People promise to host vanilla...

I don't mean to sound like a pessimistic pain in the ass, it's just that this clearly isn't any sort of long term solution.

Either,

1.) Someone is willing to host a permanent vanilla server regardless of clients, which would be very odd.

2.) We continue having spotty vanilla servers piquing temporary interest, which is what happens naturally.

Or 3.) We throw all of the most popular WADs in with the main game, and update it regularly.
This has been brought up frequently for the longest time, and has been adamantly rejected, but as you said, these people are lazy as all crap.

1 seems unrealistic.
It would be nice, but no one is likely going to commit to that for very long.

2 isn't a change at all.

3 is the idea that strikes me as the most logical.
It would involve creators PMing CMM or Ivory (or whoever does the MM8BDM Download) with the updated versions of WADs and then them adding them to the main download.
As an example:
Yellow Devil created Classes 17B.
He then PMs the person in control of the MM8BDM download with the link.
That person updates the MM8BDM download.
We can still download Classes 17B itself in the Classes topic, but now it is in the main download of the game for the new people who are very impatient.

This would, clearly, add more work to the process of maintaining this game.
However, staying on top of it would make the MM8BDM download a one stop shop.

And if server hosts need to make extended efforts to entice new players, doesn't it stand to reason that the publishers themselves do the same?

Screw Scramble with map packs always draws a crowd.

I've been having hosting issues lately, so I haven't been able to host.
