I have no idea what causes this; whenever the Trio boss decides to use the Thunder Claw I can't get him to stop no matter how many times I dodge it. He'll keep going with it forever even after I'm already dead... Am I missing something here?

This was brought up somewhat recently in the same forum you posted this topic in.
The issue isn't you just being bad at the game or anything, it's an oversight that stopped working due to a Zandronum patch after v4c's release.
I posted a patch that allows you to bypass the issue.
