Hmm...

Try downloading FreeDoom and try running Zandronum.exe with it.

I know this is a lot to ask seeing as your entire computer freezes when you try to run the game, but I wanna know what happens when you try to run something lighter than MM8BDM.

you download the wad file, name it doom2.wad, then double click Zandronum.exe instead of MM8BDM.exe.
Zandronum should ask you which iwad to run with, select that wad.

I think we should also be taking his computer's specs into consideration if he thinks it's a problem. Assuming it's a prebuilt computer, can you tell us what model and how old it is? (If not, just the general stuff such as cpu speed, memory, graphics card, etc.)

Okay so I did what you told me to and Doom 2 played okay! ....at first, after killing the first dude I found, picking up something and walking a bit trying to find what to do....my computer froze on me, so I think it has to do with Zandronum in general maybe??

Model? Honestly I have no idea, I just remember having this PC since I was 4 but the CPU was constantly changed and so was the monitor so I doubt it's even remotely like it used to be.

CPU speed, I really don't know, in terms of memory I have 423 GB space total out of which I have 191 of free space.

Graphics card? Oh boy lemme tell ya this one: I used to have one but no joke, last year my CPU just went kaboom, okay it didn't explode but I remember hearing a loud "BOM" noise and suddenly it stopped working, the CPU itself was salvaged but the graphics card was damaged beyond repair, and getting a new one is gonna take quite a while considering how expensive they are where I live, though my family does plan to get one soon so we'll see then.

Hoo... that's a toughie.
Thanks OJ for getting that one cleared up, was honestly gonna be my next question.

The lack of a normal GPU would more than likely explain your issue.

When OJ asked about memory and CPU speed, he was referring to the information you can find by right clicking on my computer and hitting properties. It'll tell you your CPU speed in GHz, your processor name and manufacturer, system time [32 or 64 bit] and total amount of RAM you have in GB.

More than likely the issue is the lack of a real GPU, but the other specs would be nice to look at.

CPU-Z allows the user to check out all of their computer's specs in a window. It's been a highly convenient program for Reidakk and I lately since we're looking to upgrade some things, so I highly suggest you give it a try.

Oh and it's also free.

Unless there's been a significant change since the MM7-ish days, integrated graphics on a halfway-decent computer will run mm8bdm (hell, I ran the first iterations of skulltag-based mm8bdm on a clunky XP machine) just fine. But having the same computer since you were 4? Holy shit, unless you're like 12 years old that's gonna be a problem. The fact that your HD is only 423GB makes me think your computer is gonna be an issue (not the HD space itself- just as an indicator of how modern your PC is). If you don't want to download any benchmarking software, you can just right click in the "My Computer" window, select properties, and your Installed Memory (RAM) and Processor should show up, that's mainly what we're looking for.

Well i'm 14 so....actually that's 10 years, still a lot, wow. Okay so i'm doing what you told me to and excuse me if I screw up the translation (my PC in spanish).

Processor: Intel Pentium CPU C620 2.60GHz 2.60 GHZ
System type: 32-bit
RAM memory: (turns out I was wrong about this) 2,00 GB with 1,41 of usable space.

What really strikes me is the 1.41GB of usable RAM. That definitely looks like it'll be a problem- I'm not sure about the CPU, but it seems low too. Also, 32 bit Windows 7? That seems pretty strange.

It's a core 2 duo era CPU with a 500+GB HDD and 2gb of RAM it sounds like. Also 32bit Windows 7 is not at all uncommon for  a 10 year old PC with 2gb RAM. If I had to guess I'd say the GPU is the problem, either drivers or something similar. The only question I have is when the game freezes, does Ctrl-alt-del do anything? It would clarify if it's a system driver/hardware issue or something else.

If you don't mind me chiming in, I was able to run Skulltag and Zandronum with less than a gigabyte's worth of RAM and subpar processors throughtout all the years I've played this game, with OpenGL enabled which should be more resource intensive, so that isn't honestly as big of a limitation as perhaps just processor power, which both seem to take a considerable toll on.

If you had clear GPU hardware issues recently on the rig you're using, then that is probably the problem. You're gonna have to get a replacement if somehow this isn't a software issue that can be solved by some magical update on the driver end. Have you tried updating whatever graphical drivers your OS still uses?

To Messatsu, no, ctrl + alt + del does nothing.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure this is beyond the developers' control and they can't do anything to fix the fact that my PC sucks, I guess i'll just have to wait for my family to save up and get that graphics card.

To Musashi, sorry if i'm sounding like an idiot, but I don't really know how to update graphical drivers?
