I found a bunch of music files in skulltag_data.pk3 that I can use with "changemus" command, but what are the codes for other (megaman) music? I couldn't find them in MM8BDM-v1b.pk3.
And how do I add my own?

About the MMDM music, there's already a thread for that, I requested a list and the others helped me.

As to adding your own... no clue.

Great, thanks :)
And if anyone knows how to put your own in, that would also be great.

To add your own music. Download Slumped. Make a new wad and import all your music into it.

Put the wad into your skins folder then you should be able to type in the  changemus code.

Each track has a maximum of 8 characters in the title.

I think you can name them the same names as the original tracks to replace the MM8BDM ones if you like.

That is correct.  For example, I've tossed the 8-bit rendition of Wily's chat theme from Rockman 8 FC into the "Wily Crisis" spot in my own custom music WAD.  It really makes the introduction cutscene all the more nifty, in my opinion!  But that's just one example.  You could replace Metal Man's theme with "Metal Dancer" by TheMegas, or Centaur Man's them with "Zoolook" by Jean Michel Jarre, or even a boss theme with the "Tense Up" boss theme from Sonic Advance 2!  The possibilities are only as limited as your imagination!

Does SLumpED work on linux? I can't find any binaries, and it doesn't compile properly with gcc...
Is there an alternative?

Don't quote me on this, but I think Unwad might be what you're looking for.  It's a little harder to use than SLumpEd would be, but no one's been able to compile that program for Linux, just as you said.  >_o

As far as I can tell, unwad can only extract wads. Will .pk3 files work instead?

Edit: Yes they do. Thanks again.

Actually I tried making a music wad and stuck it in my skins folder and it didn't work. What do you do?

Why, I load it manually, of course.  -file for the win.  X3  But of course, if you don't want to use a custom shortcut like I do, your new launcher can be extremely helpful.

- Put your potential WAD file anywhere, but preferably somewhere near the MM8BDM base directory, if not right in it.
- Next to the "Extra Command Line Parameters" edit box, click "Add File".
- Find your WAD file and double-click it.
- Your text box should now read something like "-file C:MM8BDMYourWAD.wad"
- Press Start to play.
