Saskrotch's Soundtrack Remix Project Thing Thread
« on: November 03, 2010, 04:56:04 AM »
okay, so i've mentioned a few times on the forum that i was planning on doing my own version of the soundtrack for MM8BDM. I had a show out of town doing all new material for halloween, so i've been putting it off till now. I just started working on the first track, but before i get too deep into it, i wanted to get some input from the community on it.

at first i was asking some dumb questions that don't matter so never mind.

The basic plan: Remix/cover a mega man song for every stage / screen in MM8BDM. It'll mostly be remixes from the original 6 games for single player maps, with remixes from other games for the CTF maps. this is going to take a long ass time, but i'm gonna stick it out.

I'll be mostly doing this tracks in Little Sound DJ, a music program for the Game Boy. I might incorporate some other software into it. the idea is to keep the original melodies of the songs, but give it a feel more relative to an FPS game. and there will be some hidden goodies.

Stages
Mega Man 2 - Bubble Man
Mega Man 2  - Metal Man
Mega Man 3 - Top Man
Mega Man 4 - Pharoah Man
Mega Man 6 - Mr X's Fortress
Mega Man 10 - Roboenza Theme
CTF Maps
Mega Man X2 - Absolute Zero
Mega Man V (Gameboy) - Mars Demo

Also if you've got any general suggestions feel free to post them here. I'll keep the thread periodically updated with updates and that kind of thing.

I have a feeling a certain dev is going to like that Top Man remix.
They're great, saskrotch!

awesome i did a quick test, replacing the music is completely easy, and doesn't effect the .wad for online play. (this was probably obvious to a lot of people, i was worried after trying to play a regular game with the roboenza mod loaded). So it's looking like once it's ready, i'll just 'release' a separate package of the game, unless it gets picked up officially (fingers crossed, breath not held)

finished up top man, added Sickness demo from MM10 (NOHOPE, theme to zombie survival)

i'll be posting this in the main section later, but if anyone wants to record some videos of the stages with new music and upload them (my computer can't handle MM8BDM+hypercam unless you want 2 fps), PM me or post here or whatever.

Oh really? I'd love to mod my game in this way, since I have so much 8-Bit laying around. Haha. Mind me asking how?

it's really easy with SlumpEd, but i'd recommend having a separate copy of MM8BDM just incase something goes wrong.

if i remember correctly, open the pk3 file, find 'musics.wad'. there'll be 'unknown' files for each stage, they're .ogg files. make an .ogg file of whatever you want to play, then rename it to whatever the level's sound file is called (for example, top man's stage would be TOPMUS.ogg). then right click on the song you want to replace, go down to import, find the file you made, hit okay, and save.
