not bad! NES tiles can only have 4 colours usually but capcom used sneaky sprite layering, but who cares cause these look good!

Quote from: "Mr. X"
I've finished coloring them.  There were a few iffy spots (there's a thing that looks like a vertical conveyor belt in the bottom right that odd, but the ugly black spot was in the original, so...) but I think the colors look decent.  However, I realized there's a big problem with the tiles:  They're 18 by 18, not 16 by 16.  Plus, there aren't really enough to make a full level, so I'm going to try making some general sprites that would make it look a whole lot better.

That vertical conveyor belt is actually supposed to be animated.  And thanks for pointing out the grid is the wrong size...I forgot to change the grid size in Photoshop when I rebuilt my computer. :?

Should I redo them?  It might be easier now because I often noticed that there were 2 pixels left over to either side of a tile when I made them.
*EDIT* And looking at an old map with the new grid, things line up perfectly now...
Given how fast I can do these, I can redo the past 3 within a few hours (but won't get started today).

The colors look much better by the way.

Ok, I'll redo Mars' tiles when I have time (this week is fairly busy for me) but would people like me to strictly adhere to NES limitations (which I'd need spelled out to me very clearly since I really don't know the limitations other than the color palette I have) or are they fine with using the colors I already posted?

a nes sprite or tile can only have 4 colours per 8x8 area, for characters nes used two sprites to get around this (megamans face is a separate sprite to his body)

Obviously black doesn't count since every sprite is outlined, but does white count?

Both black and white count.
That's why Megaman was only Black, Blue, Cyan and White. His face was a serperate sprite pasted over the hole in his helmet like brotoad said.

Well that makes things incredibly difficult then.  I don't know if I'll be able to use perfect NES limitations then.

I would prefer it if you didn't, really. The old mars one was great, and it looked 8bit even if it broke limitations. MM9 and 10 broke the limits occasionly, who cares?

Thanks.  I'll stick with the color scheme I originally used.  BTW, thanks for the tiles, CopShowGuy.  However, I'm going to have to make quick edits to Mars simply because I don't think using just those tiles would look good in a 3-D space.  By quick edits, I mean I'm going to make a wider version of the platform I had as red with a yellow top and a blue section beneath that.

Do what you need to do.  Let's just keep it believable.

Will do.

By the way, I've finished coloring Venus' tiles, but I can't connect to any image hosting or file hosting websites right now, so I'll post them ASAP.

not important, but transparent counts as a colour too, but as they said, just keep it believeable because as long as it looks good nobody cares! if you're not making this for an actual nes game then it's not important!

Mercury

Venus

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  By the way, this is really fun actually.  If I had all of the tilesets right now (my internet refuses to load the Mars and Terra sheets), I'd do them all ASAP.  Also, about Jupiter, I've actually never played MM5GB, is that ice on the floor of his stage?

EDIT
Mars (again)

The tiles on the left were made by me because Mars really lacked any tiles that could be used as ledges that don't look like crap.  I also changed some colors where I felt I really used too much.

They look alive!
I think the red-orange you used (as seen on those "extended" platforms) is a bit too bright.  Go for more of a rusty Mars red.
Yeah, Jupiter has some ice on the floors.  So colder colors are suggested.

Also, I reuploaded Terra.  It disappeared or something...
