ok then
has anybody been in contact with zero exe or trift exe lately? if i canot get permission from them we might have to redo the skins ourselves
(BTW i am testing sigs/avatars, so ignore it for now lol)

Sir, if he has them up for download then I'm sure he's alright with them going into the expansion (that doesn't mean we shouldn't seek out his permission of course.)

On a different note, I think his Jupiter's front frames should be edited slightly to give them two pixel-wide eyes. Currently, he looks quite odd. Other than that, they look quite good.

Brotoad would be right. Zero.exe and trift.exe put work into making those sprites. To use them without permission is still theft. Even if it's up for download.

I've been tampering with Mars' tileset and seeing how colors would affect it.

Old:

New:

I replaced the brown with a rusty red, made the background a true black, and darkened both of the greys.

That does look good, but I'm wondering if it would look bad in a stage. I know it's the gameboy, but all of the tiles are one colour and it wouldn't really look that good... Maybe some of the tiles could be other colours, or maybe we could mix and match tilesets?

Yes. One color is absolutely horrible to work with. It gets repetitive, boring and even ugly to look at. Take a look at the NES tiles for inspiration and mix it up a bit.

Then it is as I feared.  Colorizing them will take as much work as ripping them.  Each stage seems to only have a total color palette of 4, so making it more diverse will take some thinking and tweaking.

I'll continue to make the tilesets first.

idk, I think both tilesets look good, maby if you mix and match them (then again, it might remind me of X-mas with all the green and red)

I should have remembered that these expansions don't count as private use. My apologizes sir. Would it still be alright to post my picture of the edited Jupiter sprites (NOT a download for them, just my take on how the front sprites should look.)

Attention everyone:  I've colorized Mars.

Or at least, I've gotten a start on it.  How does it look?

I've finished coloring them.  There were a few iffy spots (there's a thing that looks like a vertical conveyor belt in the bottom right that odd, but the ugly black spot was in the original, so...) but I think the colors look decent.  However, I realized there's a big problem with the tiles:  They're 18 by 18, not 16 by 16.  Plus, there aren't really enough to make a full level, so I'm going to try making some general sprites that would make it look a whole lot better.
