Green metal bro:

Very glad you like some of that! :)

Both Helloween songs are very nice, but I'm especially digging Stratovarius! Could definitely get into that. Much melody! Freakin' love the part at 1:42 of the first song. :D That Queen song is also nice! And historically intriguing.

Random melodeath song time!

The cleans in this one are incredibly beautiful. I think it's a huge shame they couldn't get a better growler. I only like his last screaming part; throughout most of the song it just sounds awkward.

Because every topic needs In Flames:

Also, to counter Camo Yoshi's "acid metal" mention, I'm gonna post some industrial metal:

(click to show/hide)

Also, here's a good example of a song that manages to be both extremely heavy, and extremely melodic:
(click to show/hide)

Seriously one of the most melodic songs I've heard, that's not 8-bit video game music anyways. A huge bonus is that most words are very clear, even though he growls, at least to my ears.

And here we have the most beautiful song ever conceived:

(It's not quite metal. I'm cheating.)

EDIT: Oh yeah. Metallica kicks ass, by the way. I like most of their stuff, but my favorite era is from Ride the Lightning to the self-titled one.

And for the more symphonic listeners... Visions Of Atlantis.

Hmmm could this be my new Nightwish?

Hehe... Ive had a hate for Nightwish for a whole year once. But that was because every single person i knew listened to that band whenever i was around and mostly the same songs over and over.
I tend to listen to Nightwish every now and then these days.

Visions Of Atlantis is so much more awesome in my oppinion

Ride The Lightning is awesome...
My favorite albums are Kill Em All, Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning and The Black Album.

Nightwish's Ocean Born is one of the first albums I absolutely loved. I remember playing Bucky O'Hare for the NES and listening to Sacrament of Wilderness. <3

How could I forget to mention the avent-garde metal band Shaolin Death Squad, though? These guys are the most genius musicians and lyricists ever! Two examples of their lyrics:

"we hold the key to the cage that we’ve made for our face"
"facelessness is nice here out of the light, but I’m so insecure that I’ve killed my face"

Absolutely marvelous.

(click to show/hide)

Seriously though, they're extremely talented musicians, even if the themes are beyond goofy. They NEED to make it to the top. I can't allow anything else.

Green bro! I've been listening to the last songs you posted, and I will give my thoughts on them.

The Bereaved one was all right, it sounded a bit like Doom at the start, which was all right but yeah, I thought the singing was a bit awkward at times, otherwise not bad.

The In Flames one was really good! It was melodic and it sounded good. Only peeve about it... the singing > < lol. I think he could have sung it better (to my taste, lol). I'm not a huge fan on growling, lol. Otherwise, a great song. For some reason, the music reminded me of Ninja Gaiden 3:
(click to show/hide)

The Allegeaon one was not bad. Very fast and an interesting mix, but not my cup of tea, ha ha ha.

The Idle Blood one is quite a nice song, and a nice escape from the loud noises that is metal, ha ha. I don't know many Opeth songs, but I hear this band was compared to it a fair bit.

The last song (forgot who) was interesting, and I found myself digging it eventually. =P

All right, now for a few songs that I quite like. This one you will know Vyreman, but I'll throw it out there for others who may not have heard it. This is one of my fave songs from Judas Priest, and I especially love the melodic solo at 2:49!
(click to show/hide)

This next band I just got to know recently. They were an 80's British heavy metal band, but I think lesser known. This first song is one of their most famous ones, and is one that got me into them. The second song is so catchy I found myself singing it, ha ha ha. Their heavy metal seems almost "pop-like" at times, but they're so catchy it seems to work.
(click to show/hide)

It's funny I seem to listen to all "oldies" but I think classic is best anyway? Very few new bands I like, but I might think of some and post them next!

Hah, yes, even I think he could've done the In Flames one better. Although I think In Flames have musically gotten worse in recent years, I do think Anders Fridén's vocals have improved (a rare opinion). His screaming is a lot better, and he sings every now and then now (although his singing gets a lot of criticism for being "whiny", which I mostly do not agree with).

Here's my favorite song from the album before their latest:

(click to show/hide)

Very improved screaming, and I personally love his cleans.

But yeah, I understand if you don't like screaming. I was also there once, after all. That's not to say you will ever approve of it just because I eventually did, but yes, it's hard to say you wrongfully dislike growls when I used to dislike them myself! It's all good. It's an acquired taste, truly. My mission is to make you overlook these vocals for the sake of the music, rather than like them -- although the latter wouldn't be bad. :P

As for Allegaeon, I can definitely see why that one wouldn't be your cup of tea! But anyway, that part at the 4 minute mark is awesome. Reminds me a lot of Mega Man. In fact, I thought it was a direct rip-off of some Mega Man 2 tunes at first, but as I listened to those I realized it wasn't. So it was just in a similar vein. :)

As for the Katatonia/Opeth deal, yeah, some of Opeth's calm stuff is very reminiscent of Katatonia (or vice-versa). And yeah, I think Opeth's singer is far too similar to Katatonia's. Funny thing is that Opeth's singer was once IN Katatonia, although as a growler. But I guess he could have heard him SING at times (at rehearsal, or maybe they're friends, or whatever), and that style might have rubbed off on him! Or vice-versa.

And by that last song, do you mean the Shaolin Death Squad one? Lol. On that note, here's another excellent song by them:

(click to show/hide)

I actually HADN'T heard that particular Judas Priest song, by the way! Pure Priest, right there. Magnificent. I'm pretty sure I have heard the second Priest song, though. But very good also. I especially dig the solo in that one! These guys know how to do it.

And holy crap, I haven't heard of Grim Reaper before! This is some classic shit! I really don't mind "poppiness" in heavy metal; after all, Scar Symmetry is one of my favorite bands. They're heavy as fuck, sure, but most of the choruses are very pop-like and catchy. The first song's chorus reminds me very much of Iron Maiden. It's repetitive in a way I don't mind. The scream at the end kicks ass, too. So freakin' long. Length-wise, it reminds me of a totally-completely-type-of-scream from the beginning of a Graveworm song, and also one at the end of an Annihilator song (also different). See below:

(click to show/hide)

That second Grim Reaper song was also very nice! I have a new band to listen to. Thank you, green bro of metal! :D

EDIT:

Blind Guardian's speed metal days! I mean, sure, their latest album, At The Edge of Time, is seriously one of my favorite albums of all time. But this is just so awesome. Blaaaaast beeeaats!

Ohh nice, I listened to the second In Flames song and I quite like it! I think the vocals fit better in this song than the other one. For some reason in the other one I felt it could have sounded better with  "proper" singing in it. The song sounded epic and melodic, not saying it needed high powered power metal inspired vocals, but at least some singing that didn't feel as if they were forced out and belted out, yeah, and aquired taste I guess? =P As for this one (second song) it seemed to fit in pretty well.

Oh yeah, I listened to the Allegaeon one again, and yeah, I did like the bit at 4 min mark. In fact, it reminded me a lot of Quick Man's theme! I thought it was pretty cool.

Ah yes, I didn't mind the previous Shaolin Death Squad song. This one was also quite nice actually. It was something different too, but I guess a nice stray away from the RARARA as Mike calls it, hehe. Then it turned surprisingly heavier, ha ha, I should have seen that coming.

Lol! The long scream in the Graveworm song. That was seriously long, longer than the Grim Reaper one. The song itself is not bad, but I have to get used to the singing style. For me, the singing makes or breaks a song, so I'm very selective with that in mind. Otherwise, not a bad song at all. =)

Ahh, Annihilator was pretty cool! The main riff reminds me of something, oh shit! Yes, it reminds me of Hell March from Red Alert! WIN! lol. I can imagine this song being in Red Alert, or at least the instrumentals. It sounds like a song you could use in a war game. I think this and In Flames are the winners of this round, and the singing in this one wasn't overly grunty or screamy, lol. Nice scream at the end! XD It almost sounds like he accidentally stepped on a rusty nail just as he was about to belt out the last part, ha ha, but it was impressive! =) In case you haven't heard Hell March, here it is:
(click to show/hide)

Ahh yes, good old Priest. I might post some more of my faves later, but yeah, it's good that you haven't heard those songs before. Glad you liked Grim Reaper. That first song was the one that got me into them, and then I listened to more of their songs and found their catchy appeal was sticking to me.
(click to show/hide)
I wanna find these Grim Reaper albums now!   Speaking of songs that went mainstream, here's another Helloween song that was popular on MTV. Being more "pop-like" it was easier to get noticed mainstream (much to the success of their other song I Want Out). The lyrics in this song however are silly, but it's a fun and catchy song.
(click to show/hide)

If you listen to Helloween's new album (7 Sinners) they sound totally different. They are more Nu Metal now, and they have a different singer to before (well, every since 1990 or something, lol). Not bad though!

Going onto Nu Metal though, one of the few "newer" bands I like today is Disturbed (there's heaps more, but they're categorized as other forms of metal). One of the few Nu Metal ones is Disturbed though, and I guess I chose them because they weren't too "crazy" lol, and because I liked the singing style in it (makes or breaks it). This was the song that got me into them (pretty popular song).
(click to show/hide)

Finally, a band that my friend introduced me to, Nightwish. While I don't know many songs, she showed me their rendition of Phantom of the Opera. After listening to it, I thought Opera + Metal = win! (much like how Stratovarius successfully mixed classical with metal). Enjoy!
(click to show/hide)

Well that's all from me for now, I'll keep listening and keep posting.
Also, you know Green metal bro is a pun too, metal as in made of metal, and listening to metal (real obvious I know, lol). That's so metal man... or is it Metal Man? lol.  :p

EDIT: You sneaked in Blind Guardian, lol. Ah yes, this band formed after Helloween (both are German). In fact, I think this band and another one (ahhh, the name will come to me) covered Helloween's "I Want Out." So when I remember the other band, they might be worth checking out.  :p
This song is pretty cool actually, and I have heard a bit of Blind Guardian, but not enough it seems. I got links to them after listening to Helloween. Sonata Arctica I think was the other band that covered them, not sure, worth a look.  :D

Not a HUGE fan of Killswitch Engage, although I do like them, but that one is very good!

EDIT: Rofl. That music video is great. So cheesy. XD I love when the guy pokes the other guy's guitar. Also when that guy looks inside of the book and goes like "what?!". It might just beat The Black Dahlia Murder's bowling video!

EDIT 2: Has anyone seen the Spider-Man movies? Epica's rendition of the score gives me goosebumps.

And I think everyone have seen the Star Wars movies.

Hey nice! Did you know Dr. Stein before-hand or just listened to it then? I only heard it this year, and I quickly grew fond of it. =)

I liked the folk metal one, and the video clip was funny, lol! They sound pretty good, even if the lead singer sounds drunk, lol, they have a good melody and sure know how to rock it like it's 1399, ha ha (or 999)!
Quote from: "KillerChair"

I love this Dio song! First time I hear Killswitch's version, and I have to say the singer sure knows how to sing it! The instrumentals are more modern (original song was 80's after all) but it sounds good! I didn't expect him to scream the chorus (clearly I don't listen to enough Killswitch Engage, lol). The solo was awesome as well, and the drum outro. =D

GREEN METAL BRO!

Seeing as you need more time to look at my previous post, I won't clutter this one with too much text. =P And I will post less videos (that and I have to think of more anyway, lol). So I'll begin with the text first:

Eluviete is an interesting band, lol. I preferred the first song but yeah, I think it's acquired taste, coz I don't usually listen to this type of metal, but I liked how it was melodic, and not just RARARA, lol. I liked the bit at 2 minutes in the second song, it sorta reminded me of a game and of something else I can't quite remember, lol.

The Epica ones were pretty good! Mixing the original orchestral score sound with metal, quite an idea. I'm interested to know what other music they cover and that album. The Spiderman one was pretty cool, but the Imperial March one kicked arse, lol. If you ever played Force Commander, the title menu music was a rock remix of the Imperial March, but this is the first metal one I listen to. =P

Seeing as KillerChair brought up Dio, I'll post two songs with him. =) ENJOY!

A VERY BRIEF INTERVENTION!

Here's an epic song by Epica:

Apart from the regular symphonic metal, this has a part that sounds like black metal (thankfully instrumental), a part that sounds like something Opeth would do, and as usual, some death metal mixed in. Some calm parts, some really heavy stuff. Quite a bit of variety. A mixed bag to be certain. I love Epica. Although there ARE some parts I don't like...the stupid dialogue sections.

I'll get back to you real soon, I promise :p Just listened to this (not for the first time, mind you) and wanted to share it.

GREEN METAL BRO!  Now it is time for the long overdue reply! It will be a seperate comment so you'll know the topic is updated. :p I'm guessing this reply will be brief. As much so that it will feel unnecessary that I took my time as I did. But whatever!

Strangely enough, usually (not always) the vocals makes or breaks a song for me as well. But yeah, I've grown to love these harsh ones, so I judge them on their own merits; bad screaming cripples the song, good screaming elevates it. Makes sense, I guess? And yeah, the scream is absolutely ridiculously long.

I hadn't heard that Red Alert one before (because I haven't even played the game, I guess... *covers his head* No, don't slap me!). It does indeed sound a bit like that, though! Pretty good.

The Grim Reaper song is, as expected, very nice! And, on that note...

(click to show/hide)

:p

That Helloween song is a bit silly, but still nice.

As for Disturbed, I used to listen to those guys. Good band. My favorite song is probably... Uhm... Err... *checks Spotify* ..Erhm... Guarded or Voices, maybe? Have you listened to their latest album yet, by the way? Asylum? It seems pretty good, even if it's a bit different.

Ah... Nightwish! An old-time fan of that band. I don't listen to any of their new stuff, but yeah, one of the first metal bands I loved. Oceanborn is still one of my favorite albums.

As for the pun, I don't think I actually noticed that. I love puns. XD

I know of Sonata Arctica. I like some of their stuff, but a lot is almost...too commercial for my tastes. I know I said poppiness isn't a big deal, but there's always a limit. :p Lol.

Have a good one. o

EDIT: Wait. Right. You made another post too. I'll get to that one in a few.

GREEN METAL BRO!

Sorry I have been away for days, so I haven't had a chance to log onto the forums. I am here to let you know that I'm still going to continue with this thread.  :p

Unfortunately I'm a bit sleepy right now to reply properly to the songs (and to recommend another couple of songs) but I thought I'd let you know I'm still here, hehe.

I will edit this tomorrow and write the proper content.

Cheers bro, and rock on! m/

GREEN METAL BRO!

Lol, I finally decided to comment back on your video links!   lol.
Again, sorry I have been away for days without letting anyone know, but now I'm back.

All right, that Epica song was well, Epic, lol. At first I thought it sounded pretty dark and heavy (something I don't normally listen to) but it seemed to go well with the symphony. It got even more melodic afterwards, and changed a few times (including an awesome slow bit) which I really liked. An interesting song that one.  :)

Ha ha nice, I didn't know Steve Grimmett was still singing! How new is that song? Though I like it how it sounds like something classic 80's (like back in the Grim Reaper days) and it shows he still knows how to rock it! I really like this song, short but sweet!   Thanks for that link.

Oh yeah, you can look at the Dio songs whenever you want (they're good!) but I think I will limit my video posts to two from now on (just to make it easier and getting this thread flowing even faster).  :p

This first song you probably know, but it's been stuck in my head for a while now. For the others who don't know it, this entire album is great! Every song in the entire album uses my three fave power chords too, lol.
(click to show/hide)

Also, you might know this second song. I was playing the new version of Robot Unicorn Attack (Heavy Metal edition) (if you don't know what that is, google it, it's fun, lol) and the track they play in that was getting stuck in my head, so I had to look it up. It was this song from none other than this band.
(click to show/hide)

That's all from me for now, I hope you enjoy the vids!

CUTMAN MIKE!

I did not see you post, lol. Ahh yes, that Through the Fire and Flames was made more popular on GH3!   Ha ha, such a bastard song. I do like the fact they use chiptunes inspired music (or MIDI) but yeah, I dunno, they could perform better live, but yeah, I don't mind them. I'll have to listen to that other song and the chiptune. Just give me a few mins. lol.

EDIT:

Cutman Mike, I listened to the other DragonForce song. I quite liked it, it was pretty good. Typical DragonForce, but it worked well, and the hectic guitar work was very video game inspired. Too true on never knowing about The Last Ninja... coz I don't know it. =S lol. It sounded interesting, and no doubt DF used it in part of their song. The Last Ninja tune in itself was pretty good too, and it did sound very Japanese inspired.

Thanks for the links Mike!
