Just out of curiosity, is there anyone here who is any good at making pttune music? I'm very much considering going the route of having 8bit versions of Rider themes this time around as an alternative to the huge file size of the regular songs, but I suck at music.

Has anyone else had an issue with the game not responding to the keyboard. The game is still running but will not respond at all to anything I press. Any ideas?

Only time I've ever had that happen, if I minimize it and then bring it back up, it's usually fine.

Just thought I would bring it up, it looks like the guys making 8 FC use a graphics program called Graphics Gale for all their images. I like it because it immediately gives you the color palette as a color swatch menu, making it easier to assign colors. Also, it looks like they did away with limiting colors on a lot of the files.

MM8 have been one of the greatest games in the MM Series but I never thought would make it in 8bit :D. This looks amazing (and hard :O). But they made a great job. But in my opinion i prefer to play the original PSX version.

v3.10b Released.

What changes? beats me. I just know that the Image folder is back, but with just a .bin file, so you can't edit it with Resource Hacker anymore.

Damn it all. It's like they don't want us to be creative with their work or something. Do you think they spy on forums like this and purposely change what they use to screw our plans over?

But I want to make a Weebl and Bob or asdf mod, and after my Chronoman mod, I'd rather it be new material :/

Am I the only one that thinks most of the RM sprites look....bad? I know it'll be hard making full 8-bit sprites of big, detailed robot masters, but with the exception of Tengu and Clown (and maybe frost?), the RM sprites look bad. I mainly think that about Astro and sword. They just don't seem to look that good at all compared to their original counterparts. I think it's something to do with their size. Grenademan kinda looks okay I guess, but the lack of voice acting makes the fight look far less exiting. That masochist personality, y'know.

Are their sprites improved/updated in this version?

Perhaps they aren't so much limiting our creativity as protecting their own.  They put all the time and effort into making these 8-bit style "demakes," and then a bunch of people go and modify all the graphical work they did and defeat the purpose of their game by making it something completely different.

I think they look pretty good.  The idea is probably to make them look like they may have looked on the NES, rather than trying to make them perfectly match their PSX counterparts.

Because I might as well, I'm going to play it now. Everyone says it's very hard, so....yeah, I'm gonna need a bit of luck here.

I'l start with Tengu....maybe....

How does it defeat the purpose of their game? The game is still there, they still made it, and many people will still play what they do without touching it. People mod stuff all the time. It's creative, and in no way detracts from the work these guys put into it. And nobody takes away credit from the original demakes either, at least none of the mods of 7FC that I've seen do that. I highly doubt the makers of Minecraft care if people do graphics mods of their game, and that's an original creation. These guys are demaking a game made by Capcom. It's like someone draws a mustache on a photo, and then get mad when someone else adds a beard. Sounds pretty silly to me.

Errr, little problem. Like RM7FC, it appears in a really small window until a make it large. That Config thing just brings up a box with white in it. How do I make the game bigger? I'm too used to playing these game at a large size so I wont be able to play if it's so tiny.

I also think it's pretty silly when people, say, rip sprites and then put a notice to "not steal them". They "stole" em in the first place!

That being said, it would be wrong to not appreciate efforts like proper sprite ripping and creating a FC version of Mega Man 8. Even if it is a recreation, it's still a hefty undertaking, and so it should be up to them if they want the source files to be easily editable or not. Complaining that you cannot change things seems like ignoring the value of all the work they have put into it, and may very well lead to them deciding not to release new versions at all. (At this point though, I seriously doubt they would stop updating it. Still, imagine creating a game all on your own and all you hear when you release it is that you did not make the source files editable).

And of course, nothing's stopping the game from being modded in the end.

I'm suggesting that, in a sense, it cheapens their original effort.  If someone were to legitimately make a piece of art, even if it's based on another piece of art (such as your mustache and beard example), it is still their work of art, and some people just don't like to see their work altered.  The makers of Minecraft might actually care.  Modding is frowned upon by various companies.  I know Blizzard reserves the right to ban people who use mods in WoW.  If the RM8FC team doesn't want their material modded, that's entirely their call.  It may be based (heavily) on Capcom's product, but this is still their creative work, and it's their right to "protect" it if they want.

I wasn't so much complaining as making an observation. This is the second time now that they've changed how their program pulls data for the graphics portion of the game. It just seems like a lot of trouble to completely change how a game handles it's sources for no other reason than to keep people from messing with your work. I can work with what they've put out anyway, since the game is pretty much complete anyway and they're just doing slight changes. I just think it's silly for them to go through the trouble. I used to get annoyed when people would take my sprite work and change it without giving credit, but it was more to do with not getting credit for the original piece, I didn't care that people changed it. But I got over that after awhile, too, as I realized that when you put something out on the internet for people to use without asking for anything in return, stuff like that's going to happen.

All I can say at this point is that I can guarantee that if people wish to continue modding the game graphics, then someone will find a way to continue editing the sprites with what they've done now.
