I myself have been having the same issue. I checked the skulltag forums and wiki and haven't been able to get mine to show up.

Regarding making the game more popular, I already tell everyone I know about it. The problem is that one needs to enjoy Mega Man, DOOM, and setting things up on the computer. I think it would be safe to assume that a mixture of these tastes is something of a rarity, making this a niche market in the first place. Even if they go through all of that, it seems as if there aren't many opportunities to play anymore.
I can't say I know how to fix a problem like that.

The servers are important too, if we do "permanent servers", there is that for counter strike and others FPS, with website... it can be better.

Do a permanent server with a website who host, is it possible with skulltag?

And MM8BDM need more time to be more popular :)

One thing that we can do is not host any new maps (or else make the servers private). Michael's server has been out of reach for me since I do not have these "New Maps"...and Messatsu's maps aren't very good.

You have no idea how many times people have called a vote for DW1 just so they could play in the toilet. I mean seriously.

Well I do run two different Roboenza servers for this reason.  I know the maps aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea so I didn't want to force it on people.  I don't think not hosting new maps is on it's own any kind of solution, but I do think that having options is.  If people choose for whatever reason to play new maps I don't see that in itself a problem.

Oh yea, DWDM4, uh.....yea.  Maybe putting that in wasn't such a great idea.  Kinda loses it's funny after the 3rd time.

Then make a server get a few people togeather. If you make it people will come, and when they come more people will come, and attaract others.

That is exactly the problem.
With an atmosphere of elitism which is more and more prevalent (see: The Unofficial Top-25 Players List), even if more people become interested, they will only be adding to the problem.
This is compounded by the fact that becoming interested seems difficult because of this very same elitist atmosphere.

Problem is. Elitists always appear. There will always be a portion of the community who are elitist.

I personally don't like all this Tournament and Best Player stuff going on. I think it's just dividing up the community even more then it is now.
But who am I to speak of this? I barely play MM8BDM. I'm much more interested in making my map pack for it instead. Modding in general.
I do play enough MM8BDM to understand the balance and any other factors I need to know for my maps.

I totally agree with both of you, in most points.

Certainly, I don't play MM8BDM enough to be called a professional in terms of knowledge, but I know for a fact that if I see someone who thinks too highly of himself or just wants everyone to feel that they're below him skill-wise in a server I think it twice before joining.

The elitism atmosphere is just plain stupid, considering the game we're talking about too. It's pretty much "-Pew pew-", "Omgz I killz you nab", "noez you spams -insert weapon name here-, you is nab" when playing with some of these players. It's just not fun for me anymore, even though I don't speak unless someone asks me something directly. Not just in MM8BDM but in every game actually.

But, like Ivory said, who am I to talk. I'm just not into competitive gaming if e-go is involved, and I'm more of a modder person myself.

It's true.

For me, when i am with beginner or low level, i play just for fun and i speak a lot for the ambiance.

When i am with elitists, i play with all my heart. ;)

It is best to adjust to the level of opponents...

When i played counter strike, my favorite map was the crazy maps with airplanes, helicopters and others crazy things.

There are a lot of elitists on Counter strike....^^;

This is complete bullshit. I've never seen this. And they guys who did say this aren't elitist. They are morons.

I'm always using the Item-1 trap and whenever anyone complains I remind them that they can do it too.

It's not exactly like that, it's just something along those lines. Whine whine and baww'ing because they expected everything to run smoothly and died against a mega buster user. And morons or not, it's part of elitism in competitive gaming, being cocky and raging at your first death just to come up with the excuse "Quit camping." or "Use another weapon, geez.".

Of course, ignoring them is the way to go, but the problem remains and like I said, I'm just not into that style of competitive gaming.

It's a shame you have no idea what you are talking about.
