Re: CF's Attempts at Making Stuff - The Trainer's Trial

Hey, does anyone remember when I was actually actively making skins?
No?  Good, then we're all on the same page.

In case it wasn't obvious by now, I am not doing Pokemon Trainer Black as a skin.  Like Kapus said, the perspective was really off, and it's difficult enough for me to do the rotations normally--with that angle on the sprites, I just couldn't do it.

Anyways, I'm not bumping this for no reason--I've produced a little skin for a friend of mine called Omega Man.  I thought I'd share it with you so you could, y'know, actually see it when he plays.

Now, before you all chew my head off for it being a Mega Man edit, you can't blame me at all for him being designed how he is.  Like I said, I'm doing this for a friend, who's sprited his design himself--as a matter of fact, I didn't do this all myself; a shoutout to The Omegaman 18 and Mario-Fan over at Exploding Rabbit for doing part of the sprite work.  In addition, this is a rather heavy edit, and I can see that he put a lot of effort and thought into spriting him.  Lastly--like I said--some of the spritework had already been done for him, so you were going to see him eventually.  It was either you have the skin get badly made by someone with little experience in the field, or let me do it and get all the details from the original sprite.
That is all.

Oh, you provided an excuse reason. Okay.

His front sprites have wider arms than the rest, it seems.
I should probably go back to those forums at some point, but I didn't really have much reason to stay.

Nothing was more great than to hear you say that.

I don't see why you would say that; they were all ripped from Mega Man's sprites.

That's what makes ER fun!  You don't have to be doing work there all the time.  You can sit back and talk about things, vent in a blog, or maybe even keep making things like you're so used to.
I mean, it's a forum with so many topics; you've got to have something interesting to do there.

And for anyone that actually downloaded the skin and had the curiosity to open up its SLumpEd file, you would notice that Omega Man's visor was supposed to be green.  Yeah, DooM sort of mangled that up into an orangey color.
At the request of The Omegaman 18, I've fixed it up to be a color that coincides with the DooM palette, and his visor is now actually green.
The front-page link has been updated as well, but you can justgrab it here.

I LIVE.

So I've heard that this community hasn't been so healthy since I went inactive.  Arguably, it wasn't that great to begin with, but I hear it's even worse now.  I was considering planning some sort of "Renaissance" project to see if I can't stitch this place back together, but I honestly don't see how I would--not to mention that not everyone here liked me to begin with.
So, yeah.  I've heard a few things about the community sucking.

As I'm sure most of you know by now, I haven't been on MM8BDM in forever because of the master server change.  I only got around to fixing it a couple weeks ago, and that's why I've only now reappeared.  As most of you can tell by now, I still suck just as much as I did back then.
To anyone that's wondering why I don't suck more, that's because I picked up Team Fortress 2.  Even though the two are nothing alike, I'd played this thing a lot during my leave of absence, and I might have picked up a couple tactics from it.

Because I have reached the wonderful time known best as summertime, I suddenly have free time--more than I know what to do with.  I may become a tad more active again, and who knows?  Maybe I'll make more stuff.
But I don't bump my own topic without something to put in it.  To dip my feet back in the pool again, I've warmed up with bot scripts for some of the Team Fortress 2 classes.  These are packaged with the skins Yellow Devil made for them.  The other classes will likely be done in the future, but for now, it's only the five that YD skinned--Scout, Soldier, Heavy, Engineer, and Spy.  I somehow sincerely doubt anyone's interested in this, but just in case, here is your download link.

Re: CF's Small Skin Shop - Speed-Man Trial
« Reply #80 on: July 16, 2012, 04:29:34 PM »
Hey guys, I'm getting to work.
If anyone is interested in using them, I've finished the 8-Bit edition for Hard Hat 3.
(click to show/hide)
I went the whole nine yards with this one.  I messed with the projectiles, the portrait borders...the only thing I didn't fix were the portraits themselves.  They do amount to shoddy recolors, but at least no one else will waste their time on them.

Also, I'm beginning Speed-Man's public trial a little early, because I'm having a little more trouble with him.

I'm having a lot of trouble with the back-right this time.  I feel like I'm going about it the wrong way; I don't really know how to draw the majority of his limbs.
I'm really happy with Speed's front and back views, but I'm not too certain what to do with those two empty walk frames between the ones I've already made.  I'm not sure if it would be better to reuse his idle frame or create some other frame.
Lastly, he's got two different hurt sprites--I can't decide how I want to draw it.  The first is a hand I threw together myself, which looks too blocky, and the second is the hand he already has sprited, which I think gives him too short of an arm.  Can anyone give me advice on anything?

Try looking at Skullman, pretty sure that's where his arms and legs come from.

Re: CF's Small Skin Shop - Speed-Man REAL Trial, Rocman X
« Reply #82 on: September 29, 2012, 08:51:07 PM »

So five billion years later, I finally get off my ass and finish Speed-Man.  The Skull-Man hint was a huge help for helping me figure out limb positioning, but I'm rather proud to say that I did a lot of this without its help.  I'm beginning to do a lot more freehanding and such, and consistency is beginning to look better (Even though the Front Shoot looks like he's saying the Pledge of Allegiance).  I feel rather good about him, but as I type this message to post him, I can spot the mistakes I made--especially on those Side/Back-Right walk frames 2 and 4.  But anyway, as usual, you guys get this one-day trial period to feel me what needs improving before I actually make the skin.  I really want to make this one well...Hard Hat, to me, is second only to Rokko Chan in "Mega Man Fan Games That Have Proven Themselves to be Fun, Worthy of Being Official, and Deserving of an MM8BDM Expansion."  Yes, I know it's a specific category, but whatever!  Moving on.

I also have another side-project here.

So I was browsing Spriter's Resource out of sheer boredom, and I find this on the front page.  Turns out they're sprites for a hilariously bad pirate game called Rocman X...or Thunder Blast Man, for the Game Boy Color edition.  The game itself is pretty horrible and frustrating as all hell, but I found Rocman (He'll be called Thunder Blast Man in the skin release) himself to have very appealing sprite design, so I'm gonna skin him too.
Nothing worth noting as of yet.  The only sprites present are the ones actually from the game.  I'll do my best to uncross his arms in the Front/Front-Right Idle.  The only reason I'm posting this now is because we have more options!  There are three different fire sprites I'm thinking about using--one, in the actual fire sprite boxes, where Rocman X tosses his boomerang, like he did in Rocman X for the NES.  The second and third are his shoot and jump'n'shoot, respectively, from Thunder Blast Man, as he does in fact have a buster in the GBC version.  I myself would like to use the boomerang, but like I say, "no one's opinion is more right than everyone's," so I'll let you guys vote.

...Speaking of you guys and your opinions, how do you like the skin grid I drew up?  It helps me line up my sprites and keep the actual MM colors at easy reference...I find it useful to me, but would you find it useful enough to use it yourself?

My only comment is that it needs more "Flesh" coloring or something like that.

Assuming that you're talking about Rocman X...I actually think the same thing.  I think I'll change his face back to that whitish color he had before and make the shading on his face cyan.

Well, this is embarrassing.  Months after its release, I have finally discovered that Omegaman is not properly colored on his back for Roboenza.  Why did any of you tell me?
In any case, the skin has now been updated.  Please redownload at your earliest convenience.

(Speed) Bump for Speed-Man's official release.  To dash any doubts, I have verified that this skin is 100% compatible with Roboenza.
Fresh from the Mediafire grill!  Grab it while it's hot!

Okay, I seem to recall getting some praise from a few newer members online, about Query-Man in particular?
Let me settle the score here--I am so ashamed of Query-Man's spritework, I don't even have him on my own computer.  If you think he's good...well, try getting your eyes fixed.

Well, you guys know how I am; I like to write bot chats.  I wrote one for Speed-Man, and packaged it with his skin already.

Now, as for the second part...I'm not going to be around for a few days.  My grandparents are taking advantage of my school's new fall break to drag me across the countryside to visit relatives that don't like me, stopping at every museum along the way!  Fun times.  I'll still try to find the time to work on some other bot chats (Based on what happened in that one server) and the Rocman X skin, but you guys are unlikely to hear much of me until I get back.

Re: CF's Small Skin Shop - Misc Bot Pack
« Reply #87 on: October 13, 2012, 03:39:22 PM »
I'm back!  Nice to see that no one missed me; it proves that all is right with the universe.
As promised, I'm releasing a small little Bot pack...but it was kind of hard to write with the vagueness given in the server.  In order for me to write a bot script for Buster-Man, first I had to invent Buster-Man...so here's a little context for ya.
> Busterman:  A Robot who only fights using a standardized buster.  He considers it honorable and a show of true skill to defeat opponents using only such a weapon.
> Roachman:  A Robot built in swarms by an unknown scientist.  Acts as a spokesperson, urging people to protect insects, which are dwindling in society.  His armor is specially designed to be lightweight, yet able to withstand a nuclear explosion.  He also has wings on his back, and several safe havens in his interior for housing insects.
> Trashman:  A Robot built using nothing but spare parts from a junkyard.  His biggest concern is getting people to not throw away what could be reused.  He is very environmentally friendly, and will always think of it before himself or others.  He finds work in a junkyard, where he can monitor just how wasteful his people are being.
> Skillman:  A Robot built specifically for competition.  He claims his skill is the very best.  He will often talk trash with his opponents, but at the end of the day, he'll usually be mature if he loses.

Just as a little side-note, Roach-Man is programmed to use Kapus' Bugirl skin.  For the best experience, you should go grab it from his skin topic.  As a matter of fact, go grab all of his skins, because he's a way better skin-smith than me.

BUT ENOUGH STALLING.  Here's your download link; pick it up if you want.
I wonder if these would see more use if the Bot Apocalypse mode actually let the bots talk.  Back when the mod didn't exist, I thought that was half the fun...

I didn't accomplish much of anything relating to Thunder Blast Man up there, but now that I'm back, hopefully I'll be able to do some things!  After that, I think I'll just do some clean-up and do the Kapus-thing of compiling skins together.

Go right ahead!  As a matter of fact, feel free to add to his Bot chat, because it's not the greatest Bot chat in the world!  I believe in collective creativity; no way would I cut you off from doing something.
