Mega Man: Cossack Attack (revived from the dead with Travis)
« on: April 08, 2011, 05:26:13 PM »
YET ANOTHER CRAPPY FANGAME THREAD!!

Unlike last time, I have a (gimped) engine with a beta level and simple mechanics. I also have all of the Robot Masters, Wily Bosses, stage "themes", shop items, Master Weapons, etc. all planned out, they're not going to change (much).

I also realize my older plans were a bit "ambitious". Srsly, past me? 16 playable characters? Holy shit that's a lot of coding to do! Now, I only plan on five characters: Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass, Auto (bought), and Hub Style (secret).

I plan on keeping this thread relatively up-to-date with new details. I'm working on a video of the engine so hopefully that'll be up within a few days.

NEW ~ Shop List (tentative prices/items, this may change at any moment)

Dr. Light's Laboratory (trades in bolts for items)
Extra Body (40 Bolts): Gives the player an extra life.
E-Tank (80 Bolts): Refills all of the player's health.
W-Tank (80 Bolts): Refills all the ammo of one weapon.
M-Tank (200 Bolts): Refills all weapons ammo to the MAX and also refills all health!
X-Tank (100 Bolts): Automatically refills a weapon's ammo when it runs out, allowing for constant use.
Screwdriver (200 Bolts): This useful tool lets you unscrew your helmet from the rest of your armor.
Cracker Launcher (1337 BOLTS!): It's a cannon that shoots fireworks! Cool, huh?

The Cossack Citadel (trades Wily Medals for items)
Slide Adaptor (there to start): An armor-modifying part that allows Proto Man to slide.
Charge Adaptor (there to start): A buster-modifying part that allows Mega Man to charge shots.
Move Buster (there to start): An armor-modifying part that allows Bass to move while shooting.
Limit Breaker (after you unlock Auto): Coding that overclocks Auto's backpack. Increases maximum Jetpack fuel.
Wire Adaptor (you get this free): A grappling hook that allows our hero to ascend to new heights.
Wily Finale (after beating the 8 RMs): A screen-clearing blast! Uses a small amount of HP instead of ammo.
Cossack Finale (after beating the 8 RMs): A screen-clearing blast! Uses up a lot of Weapons Energy, though.
Scouter (after beating Meteor Man): This device reads enemy strength levels. What is its use...?
Water Gun (after beating Geyser Man): A fun children's toy. What is its use...?
Cyber Wings (after beating Dragon Man): Futuristic-looking wings. What do they do...?
Synthesizer (after beating Sequence Man): A popular program that has a simulated singer. What is its use...?
Toga (after beating Angel Woman, lol): Fun for parties but not much else. What is its use...?
Stopwatch (after beating Neon Man): Useful for recording how much time things take. What is its use...?
Wooden Shield (after beating Hermit Man): A simple shield crafted by hand. What is its use...?
Detonator (after beating Tectonic Man): A part to a bomb that allows for remote activation. What is its use...?
Final Challenge (after the game is cleared on Hard AND all Wily Medals are collected): Unlocks the Lunatic Stages.
Personal Terminal (after the game is cleared on Normal): A handheld electronic device that stores a powerful program.
Item Storage (after the game is cleared on Easy): A special vault that makes all characters' Tanks one shared collection.
Boots of Nimbus (after beating Perfect Dragon Man): A useful weapon that allows you to safely hover over spikes.

OLD STUFF FROM THE FAILURE OF A THREAD

Here's the storyline of the game (at least the opening anyway, no spoilers for you), tucked away in convenient spoiler format!

(click to show/hide)

Here's all of the bosses in the game, listed in weakness order! And instead of just having a crappy list of names, I decided to have a less crappy list of boss dialogues against Mega Man (a la Powered Up style).

^ NEW STUFF ADDED, CHECK ABOVE ^

I'm looking for the following to help speed up this production:

Completed (enough) Mega Man engine (I can't figure out pausing/sliding to save my life)
Pixel Artists (mainly for the Robot Masters in 8-bit)
Tileset Artists (to make the stages look totally pimpin'!)
Off-Da-Chain Chiptunes (in other words, 8-bit music)

Hmm, I could be of service. Excellent. *evil grin*
Also, about the weapons,
C. Spin isn't Top Spin
P. Claymore isn't Crash Bomber
Pierce Wave isn't Water Wave

Meteor Man and Dragon Man are based off of Shagg and Roahm, respectively. Roahm was already interpreted as a Robot Master, so I thought, "Why not do Shagg as well?" SuperGameAndWatch's Dragon Man is more "magical" and has a simple design, whereas my Dragon Man has more of an energy slash type attack, and his futuristic armor takes a hint or two from Battle Network. If you look carefully Meteor's picture says "Hey, this is Shagg" near his head and Dragon's picture says "Here there be Dragon Man", a spin off of Roahm's website header "Here there be dragons".

Incidentally, Meteor and Dragon don't beat each other / are not weak to each other. Also incidentally, Neon Man was based off of Kit (he's a speed runner, Neon Man bounces at high speed, his weapon hits instantly) and Angel Woman was based off of Pink (uhhh... she's a girl and has shinies? IDK ).

Also if you could help with the graphics/music that would be SUPER. :D

EDIT: What do you think of the weapon balance? Obviously Yo-Yo Tornado's going to have to be replaced since Stratos Man was changed in favor for Sequence Man. What do you think about the current weapon ideas? Also, does anyone have any weapon ideas for Sequence Man? He attacks with sound waves, music notes, and flashing lights.

DOUBLE EATER EDIT: Calculus Spin (MATHEMATICAL!) was originally one of Roll's weapons, but since I'm (probably) not having Roll I think it'll be a weapon available for purchase. Basically it can be used on the ground AND in the air, and it does damage to the sides so you don't HAVE to touch the enemy. Envision it as Mega Man's version of the Mario Spin from Super Mario Galaxy.

Yes Pressure Claymore is a bomb, but every game has one. The blast radius can hit multiple blocks/enemies/go around shields, and it explodes on contact (unlike Crash Bombs). Also if you shoot it in a bubbling waterfall (they're only on two stages for now so it's not THAT overpowered) the water becomes muddy and damages all enemies who touch the dirty water. The mud only lasts so long though before the water cleans itself. Bubbling waterfalls can also act like an obstacle since they can prevent you from bombing something on the other side (like a Bomb Wall in a Wily Stage ).

Pierce Wave can cut through enemies and pierces shields unlike Water Wave. It's Number Man's weapon and was (obviously) inspired from the Battle Network games. Incidentally it's one of Angel Woman's weaknesses (and can dispatch her in two hits :p) but it's VERY hard to hit her with it since she flies during the entire match and only grazes the ground for her charging attack.

It was sarcasm.

Maybe...
Oh, I got an idea. Introducing... Audio Wave!
It's completely invisible, like sound, but does insane damage. Like, 1-hit kill for most minor enemies.
Also, you can only fire it on the ground.

lol hooray for sarcasm!

New stuff added to the first post, SHOP LISTS.
Bolts can be collected off of enemies and after defeating a boss.
Wily Medals are limited and are hidden throughout stages (like MM8's bolts).

That's like an invisible Pierce Wave. It hurts a lot and it's grounded. Nice idea anyways though! :)
I was probably going to do an Air Shooter clone (with rising music notes) but that seems too lazy. :p

MM6: Centaur FLASH (kinda)
MM9: Black Hole BOMB
Also, Smash, you could just copy the Synthesizer Shot from Rockman Deus Ex Machina.

Also, thanks for clearing up Mythril Slash. I thought it was Mythril Shiny.    But now that's Shiny Shield, which you get from beating Perfect Run Roahm?

how about Rockman & Forte 2 EXCEPT NO FLASHES

give up convincing people every mega man game from 1 to 10 has explosives already, unless anything that creates bigger things out of smaller things is called explosion

also C. Blazer is notoriously similar to one of the weapon templates of MM8BDM

The story is very interesting. It's cool how the villian isn't actually Wily for once! The weapons look like they could be alot of fun. One question though,Will all the stages take place inside the amusement park? if so,you should make the backrounds for the stages have amusement park rides in the backround.

I've also got a Few ideas for some Stage gimmicks/Mini-bosses if this Does take place inside the park:

Ferris wheel mini-boss - Like the flower mini-boss of Megaman 9, but with ferris wheel seats for platforms. the center could be a Sisi(Not sure if that spelling is right) roll maybe?

Rollar Coaster Gimmick - An entire(or fraction) of a Stage taking place on a rollar coaster ride gone crazy! flying enemies swarm Megaman, and the rollar coaster could slow down or speed up depending where megaman is standing.(Maybe?)Could be angel woman's Stage gimmick due to flying enemies.

Tunnel of "Love" Gimmick - Megaman hops onto a boat and has to shoot down enemies that hitch a ride from the back of the boat. sorta like that one segment in Yuyuko's stage from Megamari without the ghost enemies. *Shot*

Might think of some other stuff later.

First of all, thank you for that five-month bump (though it's partially my fault since I've been laying the URL everywhere :ugeek:).

Not all the stages are going to have that "cliche" amusement park theme. Yes, most of the stages take place in the park, but nearly every stage won't "feel" like you're at Six Flags or something. I use creative modifications of existing attractions to make new stage designs. For example, Neon Man's stage is a remodeled Hall of Mirrors. The walls/floor are shiny and reflective (sort of like Flash Man's stage) and there are Yoku Blocks which blend in well with the environment.

Some of the stages aren't in the park, but take place in the surrounding residential areas of Town Town. Geyser Man's stage, for instance, takes place in the city's water purification plant, Tectonic Man's stage explores a local hot springs resort, and Sequence Man's stage is an invaded college campus.

Later in the game when the Robot Masters are rescued and re-programmed, Wily creates an improved version of his Hologram Display Unit from Mega Man 2. This device can display virtual versions of Robot Master stages, where you can practice against Robot Masters and train Mega Man for the upcoming battles. (In essence, this is to explain the Challenge Stages.)
