Anyone know what happened to this game:

The dude released a later video with two more stages but I can't find any more news about it. It looks really fun, too.

Flash demos for the fan game, Ryuusei no Rockman 2D (or Mega Man Starforce 2D) by Tarbo, have finally been released to the public. In the first demo you play as the Mega Man from the Starforce series, and it looks and plays very similar to the classic Mega Man games. The last two demos, Defense Directive and Super Hero Kenzan!, are just playable minigames that are also styled like the classic Mega Man games. Granted, these are very early demos, so what you see from these videos is what you are going to get.

Here is the link to these playable demos: http://cocoroco.sakura.ne.jp/cocoroco/2drnr/index.html

I might be a bit late to the party on this topic, but I have something that could potentially be added to the list. Even though I find this particular fan-game to be cringe worthy in most aspects, I figured it would probably be brought up sooner or later either way (and if I can get my two cents on it in the process, then so be it).

Here's "Mega Man Next Remix," a browser-based flash game that will probably cause several internal questions upon viewing it.

There's currently a demo of this game that includes the intro and Robot Master stages, but it seems the creator is still working on it. Just to note, I was planning on further elaborating on this and giving my personal thoughts on this game, but it turned out to be way longer than it should have (I guess it got me too worked up, given how many faults can be pointed out with it - even by watching that video alone). For those of you that want to read this, for whatever insane reason, feel free to scroll through the very long spoiler section ahead.

(click to show/hide)

tl;dr version: The game has some cool ideas here and there, but the overall quality is extremely lacking. Not recommended.

(And for those of you that follow my works/playthroughs on YouTube: No, I will not being doing this game any time soon...at least, not right now. It's still a demo, and I can guarantee you that either way, a majority of the video would just be me using Top Spin on everything).

Hey guys! Check out the fan game Protoman's Return at the Rockman Perfect Memories forum. It's a game where Portoman returns and you can play as him. And you can play the game.

Hi!

I'm the owner of the fan game called Megaman CalEdit. I just released a new version of my game that contains 3 available characters, 4 unlockable chars and 8 Robot Masters (but no Wily's Castle yet).

You can download at: http://juegoscal.tk --> PC --> Megaman CalEdit --> Descarga --> DESCARGAR

Enjoy it  ;)

What was previously known as Lars Luron's "Mega Man Untitled" seems to be alive and well, and aside from having quite a few updates, it now has an actual name:

I would recommend changing the list in accordance to this. The project itself seems to be coming along quite nicely, with some very interesting mechanics on display so far. Not too sure about the layout on some of the stages, but as the video stated, everything is subject to change at this point.

ROM hacks do count as cool fangames, but I don't list them here, sorry.

Just posting here to confirm a big update on one of the listed fangames. "Mega Man: Revenge of the Fallen" by Darkflamewolf has been released today.

I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet, but I'll probably be either editing this post or writing up another one with my thoughts on it once I go through it a bit.

While I can't speak for the quality of the game as I haven't touched it, the trailer saying, "With a lack of good fangames, we recycle graphics and bosses straight from the original games!" doesn't bode that well with me.

Gonna be honest, I was kind of irked when I saw that as well. The creator stated it was a "tounge and cheek" joke, and not meant to be taken seriously, but I still can't help but feel it was an unnecessary line given the obvious.

In any case, I just spent some time playing the game, and my initial impressions are pretty "meh" so far. There are a couple of things that strike me as really off and rather annoying as well. For one, this game apparently uses the same engine as "Mega Man Rocks!" by Eric Ruth. For those of you familiar with my own works, you'd know I don't think too highly of that particular game or its rather shoddy engine. It's clear that it's been modified a decent amount to improve certain aspects, but in my opinion, those improvements aren't by much.

Mega Man's charge-up is still rather weird (his sprites don't use the original glowing animations, but rather his palette is changed to different colors). Speaking of the charging, there's a few other oddities with it as well - mainly in the sound effects department. Aside from reusing the same unfitting noise that Mega Man Rocks did for its charging effect, the sound of a partially charged shot seems to be taken from Mega Man X. Not only that, but the sound of a fully charged shot seems to be taken from MM7's charged shot. Why this is, I have no idea. Beyond that, it also feels like it takes an overly unnecessary amount of time to fully charge up (roughly 3 or so seconds).
