Fire storm is the way to go.  Just jump before you shoot and more often than not the copy will shoot below you then jump right up into the shield.
Pretty much what i do.

Oh and the only use that i found for leaf shield is at the ladder section in crashman's stage. The centaur flash is only useful against windman, nothin else.

Except Centaur Flash is extremely useful. Really the only useless weapon in MM6 is Plant Barrier and thats only because you can't keep walking forward and attack with it and not get hit. You have to stand still. Theres also the pitifully low ammo count.

It's funny because I actually find ALL MM6 weapons really good! Thing is with plant barrier is that it's like a really strong skull barrier. Skull only does around 1-2 damage I believe, while plant does way more (I think it's around 4)

The only bad weapon is spark shock. THAT'S TERRIBLE, NOT THUNDER WOOL

MM6+ Weapons are the only weapons that have a set number of damage they do. 1-5 weapons deal different amounts of damage to different enemies. Also, Sakugarne is worse than Spark Shock.

Haven't played the GB games or MM7/8 (played RM7FC though). Even Capcom probably don't like the original spark shock, which is why it was improved for MM3GB

Every Weapon was improved in the GB version(hold for metal blade). Also, every weapon can be made use of one was or another (besides Sakugarne) its just weather or not its a good idea to use it or if theres something better to use in its place. A lot of pepole play through the game just to beat it so they tend to only use a weapon when its hard for them, which I find silly. Its the reason everyone hates the MM3 set of weapons, and, to a degree, the MM5 set.

Ironically I find Leaf Shield most useful on Woodman's stage, because of the fact that you can kill those pipis, hotdogs and gorilla things in one hit easily

I hate to break it up to you but you don't get wood shield until you beat the stage for the first time (unless if you use game genie codes, otherwise...yeah >.<)

...That's why it's ironic.

Also, the MM3 set of weapons (or at least some of them) aren't that terrible. I found Hard Knuckle to be useful for taking down Hammer Joes, and the Knuckle actually destroys their projectiles and sometimes drops useful items for you. Even Top Spin had some uses. For example, the monkeys in Hard Man's stage can be destroyed instantly with Top Spin. Same goes with those enemies in Snake Man's stage that drop stuff on you from above (at least, it destroys the projectiles the enemy drops). Needle Cannon can be a good Mega Buster replacement in some points. Magnet Missile can also be useful, for example, those hologram machines in Shadow Man's stage that makes all terrain space-ey that are usually out of reach...Are in reach. Not sure about the other weapons, though. Search Snake and Spark Shot I admit are pretty useless.

I think the trouble with Top Spin is that there's no way to tell IF it's gonna work or not, unless you've memorized how it works against every enemy. It's like some kinda cruel gamble that's not worth it 99% of the time!

But it's still great!

Also Spark Shot is such a let down. It shoulda just paralyzed enemies and made it so you could pass through em!

That's true. You're never going to realise that it insta-kills so many things without finding out beforehand. Seriously, who figured out Gamma's second phase's weakness on their own?

Spark Shot should have been more like Chill Spike, in the sense that it stuns enemies and lets you switch weapons. Then Spark Shot would be a life saver.

Thunder Wool > Spark Shock
Hands down

Only uses I have found that make spark shock a good and efficient weapon to use:
Magnet Mang
Big Stomper things
....I can't remember the other one. Using it on normal enemies very rarely works

As for thunder wool....everyone should facepalm so hard that they break their face. (Ok maybe not that hard). I really, REALLY need to make a "Thunder Wool doesn't suck video" someday.

The only weapon that does....

As much as I like Bubbleman, he has a real sucky weapon. (At least it's better than spark)

That is an issue with top spin but not a big one. Its pretty easy to tell what it effects. I think the only exception to this is the small snake heads in snake mans stage that in my opinion should die to top spin. On general top spin works mainly on stronger enemies which is probably why it doesn't kill the snakes. All in all I LOVE top spin.  I even use it a lot in my no damage run for all you pepole that think to use it you need to get hurt.
