linux "killed".

So, is that literally the only message you get? There could be crash logs somewhere in your minecraft/hosting folder.
What OS are you even using to host the server?

The second poster on this topic has issues with server hosting on Ubuntu.

It may not be completely relevant, but it's a start, I guess.

Hm, i take it nothing's changed much at all? If so all i'm getting is connection refused, but not outright having nothing found at all. I was going to suggest using different layouts like using bukkit or such, but if that doesnt work i dont know either...

When i was messing around with making a server, whenever it crashed it apparently would make a log in a map called "crash-reports" made in the same folder where the server .exe file is. Weird thing is though, it crashed several times but i only got 1 log with the last line being a bit gibberish. So perhaps the crash report was overwritten, hm...

The crash reports seem to be named in this kind of order if that helps finding them:
crash-year-month-day_time-server(dunno if this changes).txt
In my case ending up to be: crash-2012-10-31_14.21.18-server.txt.
Either that or to look for a map called "crash-reports" and see if that has anything in it.

And that was of course done on Windows, so you might want to look out for Linux or other non-windows OS problems as well?

Edit: Given that i could run a personal server for over 5 minutes on Windows, perhaps you could run your server in another OS or in another kind of way similar to switching OS? Then again that might be a bit too much work i suppose, but it would be quite nice to have the server back on.

I'm late by several days but 1.4.4 came out and it fixes a lot of things. I'm not sure if it fixed the obscure bug that Mike has, but it's worth giving a try.

On the other hand, the 1.4.5 prerelease has bugfixes related to LAN servers, but Mojang might fix some other things with the netcode, so if 1.4.4 doesn't work for hosting, then 1.4.5 should when it comes out

or we'll have to wait another year for 1.5 to come out

I dont think new versions take a YEAR to develop, though it does get rediculously long sometimes, i'd imagine its gonna take 4 to 6 months atleast, though.

And gave any newer versions a try yet Cutman? Suppose it might actually work, with some luck. Wonder if there are plugins around that could resolve that crashing problem, otherwise.

Hm, well in that case have you considered using an older version of Java? Havent updated mine knowingly in ages, yet Minecraft and its server application work just fine for me.

Just dont know where to get an older Java from though...

Edit: Updated Java pretty recently, and everything still works fine. Both with the old one and with the new version of Minecraft. Had any luck on getting the server back online?

I thought I would post this here since there is currently no 100% public server for cutstuff at the moment.

I am in the process of testing a 24/7 minecraft server with a modpack. As of this point, I just want to know how well it can support a number of people larger than 3. I think it would be interesting if people would join and play this to have fun.

The modpack used is Feed the Best 1.4.2 Beta A.
Feed the Beast is a modpack in a similar vein as Yogbox and Tekkit. In this version, it seems to fare pretty well and is a great deal more balanced than Tekkit in the means that does not have Red Power or Equivalent Exchange. Lack of both of these mods allows for more balanced gameplay than Tekkit previously did as it brings back the barrier between the player and infinite resources that the combination of Red Power and Equivalent Exchange completely removes. However, it does bring in an interesting combination of magical changes as well as technological (though mostly technological.)

The mods included are as follows: [Click the links for demonstrations of what is possible in the individual mods, provided there is one. Some of the items shown may not be in the base mod or the mod shown is out of date]
(click to show/hide)

The modpack has a launcher of its own that can be downloaded here.
The launcher requires a full account for Minecraft.

IP: 98.200.64.11:10666
Version: 1.4.2 Beta A

Finally, rules.
There will be no griefing, any griefing caught will result in an instant ban.
If this becomes a problem there will be a whitelist for the server.

Eventually, I might host vanilla minecraft when the version updates; I wish Mike luck with a hope that he is able to get a permanent server up again.

EDIT: I Apologize, I accidently removed a program that allows the computer it's on to connect to the internet. Because of this, the server is temporarily down.
EDIT^2: Ok, so the server is finally fully up and running, the IP should be the same. I have a warning, however, I am testing the hosting capability of the computer, so it might be a tad laggy. Results may vary depending on location (especially considering the fact I live in Texas....heh).
EDIT^3: [12/21/12] Ok, as of now, the server has been finalized and should be good for running for a good while. The performance of the computer in general is much better (I updated to XP Service pack 3; ran Combofix again, defragged the hard drive, and gave it another gigabyte of RAM, if none of this works, I might have to just replace the processor, which I don't want to do.)

Put the server back up! I enjoy a good building, and make it creative. For maximum power, exit everything else that's not important.

I've been working on my computer all the time I've been home and not sleeping, trust me, I want to bring the best server possible on that computer, I might have to go as far as either allocating less data for the server...but I should try to get it running.
It should be up a running in full by the end of the week; in the meantime, you should experiment with what those mods have to offer, see if you can create something that would impress people on the server~.

(Please note; in FTB, you are given the ability to look up recipes for all craftable items, even if they are made in a machine (ie. a furnace, macerator, grinder, etc.) and my server will be survival, because Creative is fun and all, but I like survival better.

Ok so after nobody liked FTB [We did everything ever already so]

Michael started hosting a 24/7 Minecraft VANILLA server.

[Removed by Request]

Large Biomes [Spawn in a jungle]

I think it has Bukkit; we could go ask that Mike guy for recommended plugins.

Hm, been pondering about trying the non-vanilla one but in the end i do prefer vanilla servers best.
How's the current one? Good community? Low to no amount of griefing? Could i get away with stuff like setting up a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) shop like on the Cutstuff servers? And how busy is it anyway?

And i'd recommend at the very least a plugin to lock (and protect) chests, even in the whitelisted Cutstuff servers you still had to hide away stuff you didnt intend on sharing like diamonds and armor. Anything else is more of a optional thing to work with if you ask me.

Edit: I've been digging around for which plugin Mike used again, and i think this is the one, found on page 42:
http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/sec-lo ... 1-r1.4336/
This one's handy because while it locks stuff you can enable it for multiple specific groups and specific users.
The only disadvantadge is that it requires a physical place to put the sign that locks it, some input may keep the chest unlocked unintentionally, and some people may find it unsightly to have signs on their chests (you can put them in out of sight though). Or so that where the problems last time i used it, wonder if some of those are fixed now.
