MM8BDMu project (V1B RELEASED, AKA V2C MM8BDM)
« on: July 13, 2011, 08:22:23 PM »
MM8BDMu is an Ubuntu port for MM8BDM wich actually works, you will have to download one of this files depending wich bits your processor has (or else you can't use chrpath, wich is the most important part):
32-bit
64-bit
After downloading that, you have to follow a little steps:

1. Extract all the files in a folder inside your "personal folder" (the name varies with your user name) except for the "Doomseeker" folder wich goes separately
2.Open synaptic
3. First, write  chrpath on the search bar and click "chrpath", then click the install button and wait for it to finish, we will use it later. Add this repository: http://debian.drdteam.org stable multiverse, then go to file>add downloaded packages and browse to where you left the doomseeker folder, enter it and select doomseeker-2010_src inside the folder and click open, then search and install "doomseeker" and "doomseeker-skulltag"
4. (My MM8BDM folder is called like the game, but replace MM8BDM with the name of your folder) Go to the terminal (ctrl + alt + t for linux newbs) and type
Code: [Select]
cd MM8BDM, then type:

Code: [Select]
chrpath -r $PWD skulltag

5. Go to the start menu and search for doomseeker. Configure it like on the official tutorial and... done! (yeah, MM8BDM on Ubuntu is like a MM0FPS, but even like that most of the people including me like it for that more than the campaign)

If something's unclear, I'll be more specific and also edit it.

Changelog:
(click to show/hide)

Troubleshoot:
P: I can't use colors! Help!
S: As Linux doesn't support ASCII alt+ codes, you will have to copy a backlash from the character map.

P: Skulltag won't start up!
S: Weird, the pack contains all the files. The solution to this is going to the terminal and after you got to your folder with it type in: $ ldd skulltag | grep "not found" and find the files it asks you for/install the packages that contain them (NOTE: libsnes_spc.so comes with the skulltag build and it doesnt think you have it untill the program boots)

P: It says something about the heap and it doesnt want to start up!
S: This happens when there is a corrupted file on the skins folder (by example, a uncompletely transfered file from a pendrive), remove that file and if your skins collection is too big and you are too lazy then just remove the folder and restart collecting.

FAQ:
Q: I want to start up MM8BDM without connecting, how do I do this?
A: On the terminal, go to your game's folder, type "./skulltag -iwad megagame.wad -file MM8BDM-vxx.pk3" (replace xx with the version's name)

I think it should work fine on every version as the turorial used as a base is from the V1A times, but yeah this was made on 11.04.

I made a HUGE edit to the first post adding a troubleshoot, a FAQ and a changelog. Also I renamed the port MM8BDMu and made it V2C.
