I thought this was a GM7 file? Its telling me its in a newer version of game maker.
Actually I know it was made for Game Maker 8. GM5 uses .gmd. GM6 uses .gm6. GM7 and 8 uses .gmk files. GM8.1 uses .gm81 files. GMHTML5 uses i think .gmz?

Well, its a GMK, so I couldn't really tell the difference :/

Whatever the case, tried out Blyka's engine, and its pretty good... combined with my old engine's stuff, I may be able to make a "complete" engine.

One question, though: Does anyone have a good engine on megaman-style screen transitions? I'm sure I could find one somewhere online, but I'm just curious.

Honestly, maybe I should just make this "General Fangame Discussion" or "Fangame Making Discussion" or something.

Well... I don't make fangames myself, but I do provide the soundtrack for them.  ACE Spark uses Multimedia Fusion 2 and a special Flash exporter plugin.  Generally speaking, it works okay... but he uses an assload of hand-made, custom engines in his games, so some major reprogramming is sometimes necessary to get things to work perfectly or near-perfectly in Flash.  The games work exactly as intended in a Multimedia Fusion 2 applications, though.

Sidenote, the built-in engines probably work just dandy if exporting to Flash.  And really, they're not bad... just slightly limiting at times.  Making screen transitions is a challenge, I hear.

You're my hero.

Seriously, this is almost as good as that Super Danny engine thing that wasn't publicly released.

Um...  Blyka was the one who made SuperDanny...  So... that's is the SuperDanny engine right there.

Game Maker 7 Pro, by the way, in case anyone's wondering what he uses. (Not sure how easy it would be to import the engine into Game Maker Pro 8.)

This is very interesting, but it requires "advanced knowledge" of GML. A very easy language.

This fact will probably ward off many of the bad fangames, which is cool.

There's also Tesserex engine, the one that is currently being worked and uses C# and XNA languages. I guess it's the most supported for now.

I am sticking to MF2 for the time being. it's more versatile and, unless I learn how to use C#, it's impossible for me to use such engine.

noob time

Okay, how exactly would I use that? That video is one step closer to actually making that Sniper Joe fangame idea I've had in mind. Do I put the code into game maker and carry on from there? 7.0 lite?

It requires GM7 Pro.

Can't use GM7 Lite....that's racist

Well, at least I'd have an actual reason for spending my money! Might consider it.

I use doom HURR HURR HURR

In all seriousness, if I was gonna make a Mega Man game I'd start from scratch and use XNA. If you control the engine, you have no limitations. Since capcom don't plan on making anymore megaman games, I'd really like to see a GOOD customizable engine take off.

Now, for the new engine, if anyone can make a flipped gravity mechanic, add Rush Coil, add a sample Wily Castle map, and replace Proto Man with Mega Man, it will make my dreams come true.

...

Or is that too much to ask?
