Such is the endless hunger for power of all coporations. I dont think i've ever seen 1/4 of the business world minimally conduct moral, fair and honest business in order to gain their money.
Its not a good idea to let money-obsessed old fools run such a large, valued and free space we call the Internet. Hope everyone doesnt let the bill pass. Perhaps that guy with all the evil corperate conspiracy theories will make the government think different.

Though we are talking about people who are probaly atleast 40-50 years old and havent even TOUCHED the internet aside basic Emailing, ever. So i hope people keep bombing them with no's to the SOPA act.

Oh, any updates yet? Did hear its going to be discussed next year, but i could have heard that wrong.
Hm, on a slightly off-topic note; probaly the first thing one could potentially call a crisis i ever lived to see. Aside that only thing we're ever getting in Holland is floods every God knows how many years. :P Gotta love this country. Nothing (bad) ever happens here.

It's not going to pass Google is against it (or so I've heard ) and it will never pass... politics don't know how to internet. All they know is how to do a book, and that makes you go aw in disapointment.

While it is somewhat off-topic, i just heard some kind of militairy detention bill actually passed in the U.S. Dont think i'll ever plan on going there, let alone encourage anyone to live there. Essentially they say the bill allows the government to detain, abuse, interrogate, blahblahbah, all that nasty anti-terrorist stuff on ANYONE, even its citizens, indefinetly! Oh, and i hear they can kill them, too, but i can be fairly wrong on that one.

Some call it a permanent state of war/high alert on the world. They probaly can and are doing this on foreign people indefinetly too. Sounds like the U.S is turning into the new North Korea, if i hear correctly about the whole dictatorship (and that said dictator died and got replaced).

This only affects anyone in the U.S it would seem, however. Considering they let this monstrosity pass, i can only imagine they only WOULD sign/allow/encourage the SOPA bill, they've already fucked up the rights and protection of their citizens!

Edit: Some sources say they can, and some sources they cant detain citizens, though it says nothing about foreign people i guess. Perhaps spoke too soon, heh, but nonetheless this could mean serious trouble for anyone whom is simply disliked by the government. Law stuff like this was always confusing, if not deceptive.

Either way, this is still pretty scary.
I'm hearing rumors that with SOPA being taken place along with NDAA; that high offenders of the law (i.e. massive pirates) could be labeled as low-level terrorists. With all these controversial laws being considered/put into effect, I only wonder when things are going to crash and burn.

I can already imagine. The once looked up to and revered free and open government (to some degree) slowly and deceptively turns the whole country into another North Korea, or any other country suffering from dictatorship. Bad thing is, they're so large, it would be difficult if not impossible to get rid of them if such a thing where to occur eventually, unlike the ex-leader of uh... Libia... Libie, something like that, who lost his position.

Could just be me, but it seems as if the whole world is turning for the worse, people are getting less smart if anything, governments go (power) mad, heh. Perhaps the so called apocalypse wont be any divine (or meteor's) doing, but instead a global war.

But i take it so far it only applies to visitors and foreign people, only thing saving people from this fate would be ties to high-ups in other countries, and thats quite uncommon.

Speaking of conspiracies... MY GOD...

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/ ... velopments

I dont want all the fun and good stuff to disappear from the Internet! People really need to be informed more if what they say there is true (though i dont question it highly, i never, ever, heard of SOPA on TV, radio, or ANYWHERE but the internet, i never really check news sites though).

If we dont speak up at this rate corporate jackasses will simply cencor whatever they dont like with a hand wave. Governments are bad at this stuff, i dont want to imagine what a company will do, considering their drugs-like addiction for money. We all know how desperate drug addicts are, dont let that power fall into such hands!

Edit: Oh, the linked topic had a interesting related video on page 2 as well. Basically the general media that would earn more money off this bill wont tell the public about it. And they're all big shots. We're doomed, if word does not spread.
(click to show/hide)

Edit2: They would be able to take down all .net, .com and any US domains for sure, even if those would-be U.S things arent in the U.S. at all. So even Cutstuff could disappear if someone put a pirated link here, essentially. Or so im pretty convinced of after reading alot of news on the matter.
Foreign uh... Domains like .nl(holland) or perhaps .uk might not be in their power (might not, thats not even a guarantee... Untill they brutally force those cencor laws into other countries, like they did with Spain, i hear), though.

Edit3: ONE piece of good news however. In the (probaly likely) case SOPA passes they've already put an DeSopa add-on for Firefox online, bypassing the enforced cencorship.
http://lifehacker.com/5869665/desopa-fo ... s-blocking
Should be findable if you open up Firefox, go to the look for apps tab, and search for 'desopa' in there.

As is shown here, dont mind the language, its good ol' dutch. (Or the fact RuneScape's the homepage, heh, used to be a long time player.)

Also heard two more things; there seems to be another program/plugin or something called MAFIAAfire or something that does the same thing. Though that bill or a relevant one might make it illegal to use such(in the U.S. atleast, they might cencor it from anywhere, but they'll have trouble dragging people from other countries into their courts), or atleast make it illegal to create or spread such, so i'd say get em while you can, the end of the worl- uh, internet is nigh...?
Hm, even changed the topic title into something more controversial but appropiate, given the result of these bills.

Uh, i'd hate to doublepost but considering the topic was kind of dieing and apparently something dangerous was true after all...

It would seem it was merely some kind of campaign of false information to make people think the NDAA could not target actual citizens... But it still can target foreign people as well, and also citizens, too!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... sfeed=true

So yeah... If somehow the government associated you to a terrorist (group) or you simply pissed them off, it might be worth moving to another country. Or just for the sake of it if one would have a friend and easy time starting up and finding a job. I dont think the U.S is going to be as free anymore as it was supposed to represent.

Aside that, i suppose i pretty much consider SOPA a guarantee, not an option at this rate, just because companies like Microsoft or Google might be against it, doesnt mean they'll win against the ENTIRE TV/DVD/NON-INTERNET entertainment industry (IE: MF'in Disney, Hollywood in general, etc). Hope those bypass tools work.

If SOPA is implemented, "The TV Of The Future" and much other apps (and why not ISP's commercials) would be simple toys: totally useless.
