Two thoughts:

1.) I thought the Megaupload thing was beyond childish.
It was obviously a case of the government throwing a temper tantrum because it didn't get its way.
The government was like, "OMG we lose SOPA bill for a while longer, we'll take Megaupload away! Problem, internetz???"

2.) Speaking of timing...
Isn't it interesting how something is attacked each and every time we aren't in serious direct international conflicts?
In the 90's it was the war on drugs, blasted down our throats constantly.
That one is still going on to oppress us, btw.
Now we are more or less out of Iraq, and suddenly the government is aiming against the internet.
Can they just stop making decision that the majority of the world despises for, like, two seconds?
That's all I'm asking.

This, and what the hell does FBI do in others countries??? That seems an invasive act...

Uh,
Megaupload was taken down because of all the "infringing content" hosted on the site, and the owner's criminal records didn't really get him on the goodside of law either. Honestly, if it were hosted by any other person like Mediafire and what not, it wouldn't have got shot down so easily.

1.  Countries are pretty much spying on each other all of the time.  However in this case, it's irrelevant because...
2.  The arrest was made with the help of agencies in other countries as well.  Essentially, they were helping the FBI get the person they wanted.  You'd probably hear a larger commotion from other governments if they had just gone in themselves like what happened with Bin Laden in Pakistan.

"help".

I am well aware of what 'help' means when dealing with the Federal Government.
Those countries were going to 'help' or they were going to get 'screwed'.
You don't need to even go internationally to see this,.
Just look at states vs. Federal government.
States have their own laws, but they mean nothing because the Federal government uses extortion to get what they want.

"You don't want to enforce this? Oh, that's okay. Guess I'll just take that Federal road funding away. Good luck without highways."

To SonicFan: I didn't say that what the people in MegaUpload did was not illegal.
What I said was that the timing of the arrest was obviously to send a message.
They could have arrested the people who run that site at any time for the last several years.
They did it now because they're pouting like children.

Im still not too well informed on how bad this ACTA business is going to be but even some of the politicians and law people seem to find it a bad idea, though those that are against it or are uncertain form the minority it seems.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/01/27/eu_signs_acta/

Those monsters in the entertainment industry just wont stop huh. Wonder how long Holland (The Netherlands) is going to doubt on signing that petition. They'll probaly be strong armed into signing it. Either that or the people making the laws here lost their final bit of common sense.

Meh, only way this would stop is either for those funding these bills (the entertainment industry) to be bankrupt, assassinated or nuked. Else they'll just keep throwing money at the 'problem' untill it stops being a 'problem'. Or so i assume, after SOPA, PIPA, uh... that new one disguised as something against child porn or something, ACTA, and they're already making that other agreement, the 'ACTA v2', as mentioned earlier!

Edit: If you're living in Canada, beware of the incoming censorship attack on your country. They've just pulled another SOPA, but the only changes are that this is limited to Canada as far as im aware, and its probaly even worse then SOPA itself aside the reach SOPA would have had.
http://www.webpronews.com/bill-c-11-sop ... wn-2012-01
This is all i found on the matter on how to oppose it, so far:
http://www.ccer.ca/send-a-letter-to-ott ... dian-dmca/
Canadians only though, it seems. Go bomb that person with NO's to the new bill if you value your country's Internet quality and content.
Noteworthy is that the news article basically bluntly talks about Youtube being targetted specifically, i'd get bored rather quickly without youtube to back up my gaming habits.

There are other file hosts (for now), i suppose. I am worried what information is being deleted though, i do dearly hope they'll remove the personal user information as well, instead of just the files and keeping that info.
But i suppose we are talking about the US... As i heard they kept a public list of people that are a little too friendly to children as well, if you catch my drift. But thats a different subject i suppose, i just dont feel save with the government knowing various information like that, considering their actions thus far, and how easy they get bribed and their legal system. Such a disgrace.

The FBI isnt making itself look better these days...
http://publicintelligence.net/do-you-li ... terrorist/

The entertainment industry is large enough to squish Internet rights, we certainly dont need the FBI to do even worse damage, if they ever get to that instead of making threats.
I keep hating the USA more day by day as news like this pops up. Their ping is horrible, and now they're trying to fuck over the whole world's Internet acces, bah.

I'd try and post news about the bills, but its been fairly quiet lately, but one thing is for sure, ACTA isnt dead, as far as im aware, still a large threat and going. Would be nice i suppose if anyone can find new developments about it though.

This has currently done nothing to harm my daily routine.

Therefore, I do not care about ACTA.

Considering the heavy words i heard here and there, it could easily mean the doom of websites like Youtube, or anything else with uses uploading content (virtually 50% of the Internet's entertainment?), or be the platform for such incoming doom.

I mean, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the current system, if you ask me, companies are still getting their money, enough of it, in any case, i suppose. A harsher method of getting pirates might be needed but at the cost of our freedom and entertainment? Hell no!

Edit: Found this, suppose it might be a bit relevant.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... Shuts-Down
Cant really say much about this one, never bothered with torrent sites that much, direct downloads are simpler, no clue on what kind of content it tended to carry either.
Just hope they'll stay off of the websites like Youtube. Hell, i hope we'll still HAVE content on the Internet after this thats free!

Though part of me is wondering how harsh retribution would be from the whole world (ie: hacking, playing Anonymous, etc, oh, riots everywhere!) would occur, would the FBI/government shut down Youtube, or Youtube shut down on its own and give clear reasons on who/what is to blame. Oh the riots and actions, or so i imagine...

Edit2: More links. Think i might have posted this one before, but oh well. Its basically a site keeping track of ACTA and storing various facts about it. Well, mostly the negative ones.
http://www.laquadrature.net/acta
And this one seems to be an analysis of the bad results that will occur would this pass.
http://action.ffii.org/acta/Analysis

Personally im more worried about my internet browsing ability, they would probaly need to block alot of content and might take a peek at what stuff(or porn) you're watching(at their own risk, i suppose).
Not to mention the death of probaly any form of file sharing or atleast file sharing sites, though that might be a little bit exaggerated. I hope.

so, i found something which sums up what the public feels about this whole situation:
