Back in late October, me and Galaxy Sisbro began trying to revive AMP 2 by working on a single map together. What's so interesting is the way that we worked on the stage. I mean, you really don't notice how different a mapper's style is from yours until you've taken the time to scream at them over Skype for putting in tan Hard Man textures in the middle of what you think is supposed to be a dark cave. Where was I? Right, the differences. Galaxy and I also shared the music that we mapped alongside to. He picked music that I would instantly label as "generic electronic weeaboo crap". At least, it was something close to that. I picked this.

And this one goes out for Alex. And for EDM.

And yet, were Galaxy not so kind (or perhaps more informed), he could just as easily label your music "generic indie rock crap". Granted, Japan does have the tendency to produce some unsettling things in the music world (see goreshit above lol), but you have to figure: MM8BDM  is still based off a Japanese franchise. As such, music selected for custom maps would be easy fit if taken from things that sound like similar Japanese video games. Music that's designed to be part of an album/commercial release would have a different intent; it'd be a square peg. Whether or not listening to indie music over Japanese music signifies "better taste" is terribly subjective (and I'd be inclined to disagree). Having a strong taste I would argue is rooted in variety, since listening to a larger variety yields higher diversity. Across this thread I've tried to make each track posted in a different style. There are multiple commercial or 'mainstream' artists I could use in this thread but I don't because I'd rather expose people to something *more* different than what they're probably familiar with.

Honestly, it's greatly bugged me for a while that in order to be a "music fan" you have to listen to things like Radiohead or Animal Collective. Everyone I've met who claims to have good taste or interest in music all listen to that and it gets old. I don't really care what people listen to, as long as it's fresh. That's all I ask for!

Oh yes, and never diss edm. You might make some passing generalizations about Japanese music or what-not, but never against electronica.

If you want to see what I mean, try listening to this track. It's made in Japan, but (hopefully) unique in style.

@Red: Actually he's one of the "better" lolicore artists. (It is really hard to tell sometimes...) Nothing wrong, just a slight appreciation for speedcore or breakcore. Take your pick.

The following two songs are Classical Music and therefore probably won't cater to many of your interests.

But hot damn they're good.

It's weird, since Galaxy decided to listen to a playlist of Animal Collective music and said he liked it. Maybe I could do the same and start listening to more Japanese EDM.

You don't really have to listen to those two artists to know about good music. I mean, I listened to lots of different artists before I finally got my hands on a Radiohead album. My taste in music didn't change much after I listened to them. I personally don't think it's necessary to listen to either band, but I highly recommend it, and that's what most people do. And I agree Tessaractal, this thread needs to display different kinds of music. If you find yourself listening to the same genre or artist, or you refuse to give another genre a chance like I did with Daniel, you'll never really be able to branch out and experience all the different music that this world has to offer. You never know what genre or band you'll end up liking next.
By the way, Nas is an amazing rapper.

Ew, why the 2007 version and not the original '70s recording? Motorhead's a bunch of senior citizens now, but they were at least semi-decent back then. Pretty nice regardless.

Classic example of a... a great hip-hop album, that's what it is.
Though I'm more partial to Midnight Marauders; as lil' groopy, mommy would play that album and I was head over heels for the beatssss (Electric Relaxation gets a gold star for feeling oh-so good!).

*fast forward 21 years from Low End Theory*

Speaking of hippity haps, has anyone here paid attention to Death Grips? I really liked the progression with their sound from their mixtape to now. I wasn't a fan of Exmilitary, but their album The Money Store got got got got me hooked with all its aggression and absurdity.

Put this in your ears!
See how it feels!
